Abstract:In this paper we study the regularity of closed, convex surfaces which achieve maximal affine area among all the closed, convex surfaces enclosed in a given domain in the Euclidean 3-space. We prove the C 1, α regularity for general domains and C 1,1 regularity if the domain is uniformly convex.

Abstract:In this paper we study the existence of closed convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space Rn+1 such that a Weingarten curvature, regarded as a function of their unit normal, is equal to a given positive function on the unit sphere Sn. Two classical problems of this type, namely the Christoffel problem [6] and the Minkowski problem [16], which address respectively the cases of harmonic and Gauss curvature, were completely solved in the 1970’s [7,9,17]. Besides the harmonic and Gauss curvatures, the most interesting Weingarten curvatures are probably the mean curvature, or more generally the k-curvatures (1 ≤ k ≤ n)

Abstract:In this paper we consider the problem of finding closed hypersurfaces with prescribed Weingarten curvature in a large class of Riemannian manifolds. Under some sufficient conditions, we obtain an existence result by establishing a priori estimates and standard degree theory for the admissible solutions to the prescribed curvature equation. We mainly show that the primary technique developed in Urbas, Wang and the second author’s work in 2004 is flexible enough to be used in more general ambient geometry.

Abstract:An immersed hypersurface in the Euclidean space Rn+1 satisfying the equation H =-XN + λ is called a λ-hypersurface.In this paper,we investigate the second pinching problem for λ-hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space.Let M be an n-dimensional complete λ-hypersurface in Rn+1 with polynomial volume growth.Denote by A the second fundamental form of M.We verify that there exists a positive absolute constant γsuch that if |λ| ≤ γ,βλ ≤ |A|2 ≤βλ +1/21,whereβλ 1/2 (2 + λ2 + |λ|√λ2+ 4),then |A|2 =βλ,λ ≥ 0,and M is either the sphere Sn (√n),the cylinder Sk (√k) × Rn-k,1 ≤ k ≤ n-1,or the cylinder S(λ2+4-|λ|) Rn-1.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional closed hypersurface with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in a unit sphere. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form. We prove that if a(n, H) <= S <= alpha( n, H)+ CnH2, where n >= 4 and H not equal 0, then S = alpha( n, H) and M is a Clifford torus Sn-1(r(1)) x S-1(r(2)). Here alpha(n, H) = n + n(3)/2(n -1) H-2 - n(n - 2)/2(n - 1) root n(2)H(4) + 4(n - 1) H-2, and C-n is a positive constant explicitly depending on n. The emphasis is that our gap theorem imposes no restriction on the range of mean curvature. Moreover, we obtain gap theorems for complete hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in space forms.

Abstract:In this paper a flow of convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space by the linear combination of the mean curvature and the n-th root of the Gauss-Kronecker curvature is considered. It is proved that such deforming convex hypersurfaces converge to a round sphere in the Huisken's sense.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to give an upper bound for the intrinsic diameter of a surface with boundary immersed in a conformally flat three dimensional Riemannian manifold in terms of the integral of the mean curvature and of the length of its boundary. Of particular interest is the application of the inequality to minimal surfaces in the three-sphere and in the hyperbolic space. Here the result implies an a priori estimate for connected solutions of Plateau's problem, as well as a necessary condition on the boundary data for the existence of such solutions. The proof follows a construction of Miura and uses a diameter bound for closed surfaces obtained by Topping and Wu–Zheng.

Abstract:For a Minkowski centered convex compact set $K$ we define $\alpha(K)$ to be the smallest possible factor to cover $K \cap (-K)$ by a rescalation of $\mathrm{conv} (K\cup (-K))$ and give a complete description of the possible values of $\alpha(K)$ in the planar case in dependence of the Minkowski asymmetry of $K$. As a side product, we show that, if the asymmetry of $K$ is greater than the golden ratio, the boundary of $K$ intersects the boundary of its negative $-K$ always in exactly 6 points. As an application, we derive bounds for the diameter-width-ratio for pseudo-complete and complete sets, again in dependence of the Minkowski asymmetry of the convex bodies, tightening those depending solely on the dimension given in a recent result of Richter [10].

Abstract:In this work we establish a sharp geometric inequality for closed hypersurfaces in complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds with asymptotically nonnegative curvature using standard comparison methods in Riemannian Geometry. These methods have been applied in a recent work by Xiaodong Wang to greatly simplify the proof of a Willmore-type inequality in complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds of nonnegative Ricci curvature, which was first proved by Agostiniani, Fagagnolo and Mazzieri.

Abstract:In this paper we give a lower bound on the waist of the unit sphere of a uniformly convex normed space by using the localization technique in codimension greater than one and a strong version of the Borsuk-Ulam theorem. The tools used in this paper follow ideas of M. Gromov in [4]. Our isoperimetric type inequality generalizes the Gromov-Milman isoperimetric inequality in [5].

Abstract:Given a closed connected manifold smoothly immersed in a complete noncompact Riemannian manifold with nonnegative sectional curvature, we estimate the intrinsic diameter of the submanifold in terms of its mean curvature field integral. On the other hand, for a compact convex surface with boundary smoothly immersed in a complete noncompact Riemannian manifold with nonnegative sectional curvature, we can estimate its intrinsic diameter in terms of its mean curvature field integral and the length of its boundary. These results are supplements of previous work of Topping, Wu-Zheng and Paeng.

Abstract:Let Mn be a complete hypersurface in Sn+1(1) with constant mean curvature. Assume that Mn has n−1 principal curvatures with the same sign everywhere. We prove that if RicM≤C−(H), either S⩽S+(H) or RicM⩾0 or the fundamental group of Mn is infinite, then S is constant, S=S+(H) and Mn is isometric to a Clifford torus S1(1−r2)×Sn−1(r) with r2⩾n−1n. These rigidity theorems are still valid for compact hypersurface without constancy condition on the mean curvature.
