Abstract:In China, the rapid development greatly greatly promotes the national economic power and living standard but also inevitably brings a series of environmental problems. In order to resolve these problems fundamentally, Chinese scientists have been undertaking research in the area of green chemical engineering (GCE) for many years and achieved great progresses. In this paper, we reviewed the research progresses related to GCE in China and screened four typical topics related to the Chinese and screened four typical topics related to the Chinese resources characteristics and environmental requirements, i.e. ionic liquids and their applications, biomass utilization and bio-based materials/products, green solvent-mediated extraction technologies, and cold plas-mas for coal conversion. Afterwards, the perspectives and development tendencies of GCE were proposed, and the challenges which will be faced while developing available industrial technologies in China were mentioned.

Abstract:Chemistry textbooks serve as the primary reference for teachers and students during teaching and learning. The textbook details the learning content and knowledge covered within a particular subject. Chemistry is more effective in raising awareness of people’s behavior and its impact on the surrounding environment, so it receives more research attention. This study investigates the chemistry content covered in Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary School and lower secondary science textbooks published by Chinese People’s Education Press. The comparative method, which includes description, interpretation, juxtaposition, and comparison, was employed in this study. The authors compared lower secondary science textbooks used in most regions of China and Malaysian Chinese schools. Results showed some similarities in the chemistry contents; for instance, they are arranged from fundamental concepts to a broader perspective. However, differences were found in the sequence in which the chemistry concepts and their application to Nature were introduced in both textbook versions used in this study. It was discovered that the organization of chemistry textbooks used in most regions of China was more scientific than the book used in Malaysia. It was relatively basic in comparison and only presented the concepts required for secondary school subjects. The findings of this study suggest that it might be appropriate for 21st-century chemistry concepts to be integrated into the curriculum to address the need for education in environmental and sustainability issues from the perspective of education in chemistry.

Abstract:: The revision of “Suggestions for Teaching Contents and Requirements of Physical Chemistry Course for Chemistry Majors (2020 Edition)” is introduced. The way to use this suggestion is explained. Based on the ideas of student-centeredness and outcome-based education, the overall objectives of physical chemistry teaching and the knowledge, ability and quality objectives of each part are defined. It is of guiding significance for the teaching research, teaching reform, textbook composition and evaluation of teaching effectiveness of physical chemistry course in our country at present and in the future.

Abstract:Based on publications indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded ( SCIE ) of Thomson Reuters, we explored China–Germany collaboration in physics from perspectives including publication profiles, collaboration effect, as well as active institutions and active fields. We found that German researchers are more capable of publishing higher-quality papers than Chinese counterparts. Both China and Germany get benefit from collaboration in raising publication productivity. The collaboration helps improve Chinese researchers’ citation impact and capability of publishing in higher-quality journals. Research capacities of German institutions are more evenly distributed than Chinese counterparts. Chinese institutions that are most active in collaborating with German counterparts are mainly those in leading positions in China, whereas those in disadvantageous situation are still isolated from the international community.

Abstract:This study was designed to evaluate China’s scientific output of chemical engineering in Science Citation Index Expanded in the Web of Science from 1992 to 2011. The document type, language, trend and collaboration patterns were analyzed, as well as the output of different journals. Distributions of article titles and abstracts, author keywords, KeyWords Plus of different periods, and the most cited articles were studied to figure out the research focuses and trends. Chinese Journal of Catalysis , Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research , and Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering published most of Chinese articles in the area of chemical engineering. The Chemical Engineering Department of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Tianjin University, and East China University of Science and Technology were the top four institutions that published most articles in China. This study showed that adsorption, photocatalysis and synthesis have been the hot points of research in the past two decades, while ionic liquid tends to be the new area of special interest in future. Pseudo-second order model for sorption processes is getting more and more popular with great influence since its publication. In addition, the ratio of institutional independent articles: nationally collaborative articles: internationally collaborative articles has been developed to compare different institutions’ publication characteristics.
Publishing Research in China: History, Characteristics, and Challenges

Abstract:Chinese publishing science has its own theoretical origins and unique characteristics. Since 1970s, publishing as a science has grown up rapidly in China. This paper presents a structured overview of Chinese publishing research in its full historical depth and thematic breadth. It first introduces a brief history of publishing science in China, and then identifies the main characteristics and key areas of research. Consistent with the divide in social research, the debate between positivistic and naturalistic paradigms has also characterized the development of global publishing science. The interpretivist paradigm of Chinese publishing research leads to unique research subjects and methods. The subjects, on the one hand, are more focused on meta-theory. Theory building and integration has been the main goal in the past three decades. The methods, on the other hand, have been generally qualitative, including historical, interpretive, and critical analysis. Current key research areas include theoretical construction of publishing science, history of publishing, cultural studies of publishing, publishing economics, digital publishing and copyright. This paper also discusses the challenges facing publishing researchers in China and their possible solutions.

Abstract:Textbooks have a crucial role in shaping students' knowledge, behaviors, and attitudes in different school subjects. This study compares the structure and content of science textbooks of grade nine in Egypt and China to reveal the common and different features in the textbook design. It opts for a horizontal analysis of four science textbooks in the associated countries. The results revealed that the distribution of science subjects has partial similarities to some extent among the preparatory stage between the Chinese and Egyptian science textbooks besides the overlapping in the associated topics, presenting Biology as a common subject of interest. Moreover, the number of activities distributed within units and subjects have the highest shares in the Chinese textbooks, and most of the activities in the Egyptian textbooks focused on Chemistry and Physics subjects. In addition to the structure analysis, this study also explored the textbooks content in both countries, covering three dimensions: (1) cognitive expectations, (2) learning goals, and (3) efficiency of illustration. The results provide valuable insights for textbook designers and curriculum developers to enhance the quality of science curricula and textbooks. Therefore, the study recommends considering instructional design and lesson plans when distributing the learning activities and developing international standards for designing school science textbooks.

Abstract:This thesis describes the current status of plasma etching technology in the world and in China.,and then suggests that the best and the only way to solve the problems in China is to train many people with different kinds of technical background and who understand plasma discharges and materials processing.These kinds of people are much in demand in today's China.Then,aiming at different requirement for different kinds of technical people,the thesis puts forward different requirement for textbooks.Based on these different requirements,this thesis compares leading Chinese and English books in the market,and then presents their main contents as well as the suitable potential readers.We hope that this thesis can help the potential readers to know more about these books and to help them to make wise decisions while selecting the most appropriate books for them to read.The result indicates that most books in Chinese are not suit to be textbooks,while lots of English books are worthy for us to learn hard.

Abstract:A historical retrospect of major achievements in the research of soil chemistry provides theoretical bases of some basic disciplines for sustainable development of soil science in the 21st century.Based on a brief retrospect of the development of the soil chemistry of China,a summary is presented on characteristics,status quo and advancement of soil the chemistry science in China in the past few decades,and a general prospect of this academic field is put on the table as well.After comprehensive analysis,it is concluded that macroscopic regulation of soil should be based on knowledge of soil microscopic properties.Recent development of the in-site observation of soil microscopic properties based on the technology of microscopic spectrum in molecular level,and the giant step forward in the knowledge are the basis of the rapid development in the field of soil chemistry in China in past few years.Intercrossing and mutual infiltration between disciplines,such as modern pedology,environmental science,ecology,biogeochemistry,chemistry,biology,and geologic medicine has further developed and expanded the academic field of traditional soil chemistry,and stimulated formation and development of new sub-disciplines of soil chemistry.It is the major direction of the soil chemistry of China in future development to establish a China-specific theoretic and practical system of variable charge soil chemistry and consummate modern pedological theory from the angle of agricultural production and changes in human habitat and environment.

Abstract:To provide an overview of the characteristics of research in China, a bibliometric evaluation of highly cited papers with high-level representation was conducted during the period from 1999 to 2009 based on the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database. A comprehensive assessment covered overall performance, journals, subject categories, internationally collaborative countries, national inter-institutionally collaborative institutions, and most-cited papers in 22 scientific fields. China saw a strong growth in scientific publications in the last decade, to some extent due to increasing research and development expenditure. China has been more active in ESI fields of chemistry and physics, but more excellent in materials science, engineering and mathematics. Most publications were concerned with the common Science Citation Index subject categories of multidisciplinary chemistry, multidisciplinary materials and science, and physical chemistry. About one half China's ESC papers were internationally collaborative and the eight major industrialized countries (the USA, Germany, the UK, Japan, France, Canada, Russia, and Italy) played a prominent role in scientific collaboration with China, especially the USA. The Chinese Academy of Sciences took the leading position of institutions with many branches. The "985 Project" stimulated the most productive institutions for academic research with a huge funding injection and the universities in Hong Kong showed good scientific performance. The citation impact of internationally collaborative papers differed among fields and international collaborations made positive contributions to academic research in China.
The Scientific Outlook in the New Physics Textbooks for Senior High Schools of PEP Edition

Abstract:Examining the new physics textbooks for senior high schools (compulsory) published by People's Education Press,we can see that as far as the outlook of science nature is concerned,the nature of science knowledge represents the feature of the co-existence of temporary and lasting;the nature of scientific exploration represents the feature of the combination of logic and imagination;the nature of science career represents the feature of interaction of science and society.As far as the values of science is concerned,the outer value of science means to interpret the effectiveness of two aspects and the change of thinking;the inner value of science means to satisfy the nature of curiosity, advocate the respecting of the facts,encourage the act of querying,promote science emotion and cultivate the aesthetic temperament.

A Summary of the Seminar on Physical Chemistry Teaching

Abstract:On Apr. 16-17, 2015, the “Seminar on Physical Chemistry Teaching” sponsored by Higher Educa-tion Press was held in Qingdao, Shandong. During this seminar, some important problems and disputes including the definitions of spontaneous change and reversible process, the relationship between reversibility and equilibrium, the relationship between spontaneity and irreversibility, entropy of surroundings and universe entropy, thermodynamic definition of surroundings, universe entropy criterion, reaction direction and reaction limit were discussed. Some deep insights of definitions and settlements of disputes were made. This paper is a summary of this seminar, which is meaningful and helpful for both the textbook authors and the teachers of physical chemistry.
ANALYSIS AND COMPARISON OF SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY ACTIVITIES IN EIGHT-GRADE PHYSICS TEXTBOOKS IN CHINA

Abstract:Scientific inquiry has already become a trend in science education throughout the world. Many countries and regions, including the United States, England, Japan, and Taiwan, have made inquiry-based science education and the development of students’ scientific literacy the main objective of science education reform (Abd-El-Khalick & Akerson, 2004). In 2001, China implemented a new round of basic education curriculum reform. China’s Science (7th–9th grade) course objectives state that “students should understand science knowledge through inquiry, obtain scientific skills, grasp scientific processes and methods, begin to understand the nature of science, form scientific attitudes, emotions, and values, and develop their innovative minds and practical abilities” (The Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, 2001). The newly revised curriculum standards for science in 2011 further emphasized the importance of scientific inquiry in science education (The Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, 2011). Since science textbooks play a key role in basic education reform (Chiappetta, Fillman, & Sethna, 1991; Chiappetta & Fillman, 2007; Tarr, Reys, Reys, Chavez, Shih, & Osterlind, 2008), they should reflect the trends in education reform. To some extent, textbooks determine students’ general perceptions of science (Valverde et al., 2002), and because textbooks serve as the specific manifestations of course objectives, it is the teacher’s responsibility to select the best resources for his or her classes. However, studies have shown that textbooks tend to present an overly superficial understanding of science. Therefore, it is pertinent to investigate whether or not the scientific inquiry activities in the eighth-grade physics textbooks in China satisfy the requirements of China’s new curriculum reforms in terms of scientific inquiry. Abstract. In order to analyse whether or not the characteristic of scientific inquiry activities of textbooks in China satisfy the requirements of China’s new curriculum reforms, content analysis method was adopted to analyze scientific inquiry activities in junior middle school physical textbooks (grade 8) of five editions authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Education. The results show that the inquiry activities in the five versions of textbooks in China cannot meet the requirements of authentic scientific inquiry regardless of the degree of openness or operationality of cognitive processes and are not conducive to develop students’ scientific inquiry skills and scientific reasoning skills. The authors of science textbooks should take note of the latest insights from the world of academia and develop some new authentic scientific inquiry tasks to update textbooks in a prompt manner in order to improve the students’ abilities of scientific inquiry. For the textbook reviewers, the present research not only provides them with specific findings, but also provides them with a method to evaluate textbooks.
