Abstract:In many electrical and electronic systems, metallic enclosures are used to provide electromagnetic shielding. These enclosures normally contain thin wires, thin slots, and frequency-selective slots (FSS) that degrade the shielding effects. In this paper, integrated FDTD formulations are developed that can model both subcellular thin slots and thin wires simultaneously. The formulations are shown to be capable of accurately predicting shielding effectiveness and inner field distributions of a metallic enclosure in both the frequency- and time-domains when subject to a high-power electromagnetic pulse.

Abstract:This paper presents an improved sub-cell model for modeling thin material in metallic enclosures using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The enhanced thin material sub-cell algorithm proposed can model thin magnetic material sheets including their losses. Our FDTD results are compared with the shielding effectiveness obtained by transmission line method, with good agreements achieved. Therefore, the enhanced sub-cell algorithm is further used to predict shielding effectivenesses of some metallic enclosures with thin material sheet on the apertures in the presence of an arbitrary polarization high-power ultra-wideband electromagnetic pulse.

Abstract:To describe the shielding ability of materials accurately and comprehensively, the frequency-domain and time-domain shielding effectiveness (SE) of material is investigated. The relevance between them was analyzed based on the minimum phase method, and the time-domain SE can be derived from frequency-domain SE. The SE of an energy selective surface (ESS) made of a novel material is investigated, and the relationship between SE and radiation field intensity are analyzed. The results show that not only material, but also the intensity of radiation electric field shows influence on SE in its frequency; for some materials, the dependence of SE on radiation electric field intensity needs to be considered. Therefore, it is necessary to research on the SE of shielding material in high-intensity electromagnetic environment.

Abstract:<p>With the continuous development of information technology and electronic communications, the problems of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic wave pollution becomes more and more serious, and thus the EMI shielding materials have recently attracted numerous attentions. Carbon materials have been deemed as good candidate for novel EMI shielding materials due to their unique properties such as superior conductivity, light weight, stable chemical properties, good thermal properties, environmental friendliness, easy processing, and excellent mechanical properties. And great developments of carbon-based EMI shielding materials have been achieved in the past few years. In the current review article, we mainly focus on the EMI shielding mechanism and EMI shielding performance of various forms of carbon materials. Combining with the current research status, their future development was also prospected.</p>

Abstract:The rapid development of electronic equipment and communication system has led to the generation of large-scale electromagnetic pollution. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials can effectively reduce the harm caused by EMI. However, electromagnetic shielding materials with universal functions cannot effectively exert their electromagnetic interference shielding performance in all fields. EMI shielding materials used in different fields must have specific functionality in their usage conditions. This paper, reviews the functional requirements, fabrication methods, and comprehensive properties of EMI shielding materials in aerospace, electronics, and wearable fields. Composite EMI shielding materials through structural design and raw material selection to obtain excellent functionality and efficient EMI shielding effectiveness. In addition, this paper presents the application prospects of adjustable composite EMI shielding and self-healing EMI shielding materials. We present the main challenges and prospects for future studies of composite EMI shielding materials based on careful consideration.

Abstract:In a wireless power transfer (WPT) system, in order to reduce the leakage of the magnetic field in the space and to improve the transmission efficiency of the system, a magnetic shielding mechanism is usually added to the coupling coil. However, the commonly used ferrite material has defects of brittleness, easy cracking, and a low saturation limit. Therefore, a novel magnetic shielding mechanism based on a quartz fiber and nanocrystalline reinforced resin matrix composite material was proposed, and epoxy resin and cross-laminate-splicing processes were used to improve the resistivity of the nanocrystalline material and to improve the eddy current loss. A discretized geometric model was designed for quartz fiber, and the effects of different shielding structures on the space magnetic field and the power loss were simulated and analyzed. In the experiment, a space magnetic field measurement system was built, and the transmission efficiency was analyzed. The results showed that the new magnetic shielding mechanism has a good shielding effect, can effectively suppress leakage of the magnetic field in space, reduce the weight, and improve the mechanical performance while also achieving a high transmission efficiency of 85.6%.

Abstract:Due to obvious predominances of airing, daylighting and so on, metallic mesh is widely applied in electromagnetic shielding projects. In this paper, we introduce the EMI technique, which the metal material is applied in shielding the strong electromagnetic wave interference on some frequency region in field space, and analyze the electromagnetic shielding principle of the metal plate and the metallic mesh. The design method and the actual manufacture about the shielding system are also given. The test result shows that the system’s shielding effectiveness is practical and effective.

Abstract:Developing electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with inherent electrical insulation and high EMI shielding effectiveness is challenging but important for electronic applications. This perspective summarizes the recent advancements in designing electrically insulating EMI shielding materials and discusses the underlying mechanisms of these materials. The insights into potential future developments in this field are also provided. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is critical in electronic applications. Over the past decades, numerous high‐performance EMI shields are developed using electrically conducting materials. However, from an application aspect, EMI shielding materials, integral to the increasingly complex electronic systems, often need to be electrically insulating to prevent short‐circuiting and enhance overall application reliability and flexibility. This requirement has frequently been overlooked in earlier research on EMI shielding materials. This paper summarizes the representative advancements in the design of innovative EMI shielding materials that minimize and eliminate reliance on electrical conductivity. Insights into the future prospects and directions for the development of electrically insulating EMI shielding materials are also provided, with the aim of pioneering materials that are both intrinsically insulating and effective at EMI shielding.

Abstract:According to the theory of electromagnetic shielding,principle of shielding effectiveness for textile containing metal fibers was briefly introduced.Based on this theory,a three-dimensional simulation model was established using the multi-physics coupled software COMSOL.Simulation test of several 304 austenitic stainless steel filament were done on different radius of stainless steel filament,different stainless filament distance,different polarization direction of EM wave and different radiation frequency.The result shows that fabric shielding effectiveness are effected significantly by different polarization direction,different radius and difference distance.These findings provide a theoretical proof in optimizing the designing of anti-electromagnetic radiation fabric made of metallic fiber fabric.

Abstract:The classifications of MXenes/polymer‐based EMI shielding materials. The booming development of mobile devices has remarkably improved the lives of people, but it also leads to severe electromagnetic radiation problems. Therefore, it has become significantly important to develop electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials for electromagnetic protection. In recent years, MXenes have attracted much attention in the field of EMI shielding, owing to outstanding electrical conductivity, high specific surface area and hydrophilicity. Firstly, this review introduces EMI shielding mechanism and categorization of EMI shielding materials. Subsequently, the research progress of MXenes/polymer‐based EMI shielding materials is reviewed in detail, especially for preparation methods of MXenes/polymer‐based EMI shielding blocks. Finally, the key scientific problems in MXenes/polymer‐based EMI shielding materials are proposed, and their development trend are prospected. Abstract:Abstract Graphene is a kind of material formed by Sp2 hybridization of carbon atoms, which has been widely used in various scientific research fields in recent years. In this paper, the mechanism of electromagnetic shielding on fabrics and the recent development of resistance type electromagnetic shielding materials are introduced. The effects of graphene and metal particle composites, graphene and high conductivity polymer composites, carbon nanotubes and high conductivity polymer composites on fabrics are briefly described. The optimization of electromagnetic shielding effectiveness and the future development of shielding materials is prospected.

Abstract:Electromagnetic shielding materials are special materials that can effectively absorb and shield electromagnetic waves and protect electronic devices and electronic circuits from interference and damage by electromagnetic radiation. This paper presents the research progress of intrinsically conductive polymer materials and conductive polymer-based composites for electromagnetic shielding as well as an introduction to lightweight polymer composites with multicomponent systems. These materials have excellent electromagnetic interference shielding properties and have the advantages of electromagnetic wave absorption and higher electromagnetic shielding effectiveness compared with conventional electromagnetic shielding materials, but these materials still have their own shortcomings. Finally, the paper also discusses the future opportunities and challenges of intrinsically conductive polymers and composites containing a conductive polymer matrix for electromagnetic shielding applications.

Abstract:As the basic materials with specific properties, fabrics have been widely applied in electromagnetic (EM) wave protection and control due to their characteristics of low density, excellent mechanical properties as well as designability. According to the different mechanisms and application scenarios on EM waves, fabrics can be divided into three types: EM shielding fabric, wave-absorbing fabric and wave-transparent fabric, which have been summarized and prospected from the aspects of mechanisms and research status, and it is believed that the current research on EM wave fabrics are imperfect in theory. Therefore, in order to meet the needs of different EM properties and application conditions, the structure of fabrics will be diversified, and more and more attentions should be paid to the research on structure of fabrics that meets EM properties, which will be conductive to guiding the development and optimization of fabrics. Furthermore, the application of fabrics in EM waves will change from 2D to 3D, from single structure to multiple structures, from large to small, as well as from heavy to light.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the 5th-generation (5G) mobile communication technology, the applications of high-frequency and high-power electronic equipment are becoming increasingly broadened, which seriously affects the operation of electronic components and human health. Therefore, the research on high-performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials is of great significance for the development and upgrading of 5G electronic equipment. In recent years, the transition metal carbides, nitrides, and carbonitrides (MXenes) have gradually received extensive attention from scholars due to ultra-high electrical conductivity, large specific surface area, and excellent hydrophilicity. This review introduces the preparation methods of MXenes and the latest research progress of MXene-based nanomaterials in the field of EMI shielding. In this review, the EMI shielding mechanism and the preparation methods of MXenes are briefly introduced first. Next, the research progress of MXene-based EMI shielding materials in recent years is reviewed, and various kinds of MXene-based EMI shielding materials are introduced in detail, especially the preparation of MXene/polymer EMI shielding composites with various structures. The key scientific and technical problems in the field of MXene-based EMI shielding materials are put forward, and the future development trend is prospected.

Abstract:Electromagnetic wave pollution in the living environment seriously affects our health, so it is important to develop an excellent electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding or microwave absorbing (MA) material. MXene has a high chemically active surface, natural structural defects, surface hydrophilicity, high electrical conductivity, structural stability and easy processability, and is a potential shielding and absorbing material. Compounded with other materials, EMI shielding and MA properties of MXene have been actively studied and greatly improved. This review presents the recent advances on electrospun MXene nanosheet/polymer composites for multifunctional EMI shielding. Particularly, the challenges to development and prospects of the combination of MXene and electrospinning technology are addressed to provide a broader perspective.

Abstract:Abstract The rapid development and popularization of smart and portable electronic devices have led to increasingly related electromagnetic pollution affecting human health and equipment safety. Thus, designing high‐performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with lightweight, flexible, and easy preparation is urgent. The intrinsic physiochemical properties of electrospun micro/nanofibers provide an attractive potential to ease and accelerate the next‐generation EMI shielding materials. Here, a detailed review of the electrospun EMI shielding materials is established. First, this article outlines the shielding mechanism of EMI shielding materials obtained via electrospinning. Then, the affecting factors of electrospinning process conditions on the resulting EMI shielding micro/nanofibers are discussed. Next, diverse fillers that contribute to the EMI shielding efficiency of electrospun materials are demonstrated. Finally, the conclusion and prospects are introduced, hopefully contributing to assisting with more comprehensive and rational designs of high‐performance electrospun fiber‐based EMI shielding for various applications. Priority measures and future directions are suggested for the future development of electrospun EMI shielding materials.
