Abstract:Distinguished from traditional one-sided markets, the notable features of two-sided markets are crossing network externality and unique heavily skewed pricing. This paper constructs a non-log- concavity demand function, which comprises crossing network externality intensity, and explores the skewed pricing mechanism of monopoly platform. The conclusion shows that, the optimal pricing of monopoly platform is a corner solution, instead of an interior solution,so monopoly platform adopts an extremely skewed pricing strategy, and the skewed direction is that, the side of stronger crossing network externality is charged for a high fee, while the other side of weaker crossing network externality is charged for a low fee. This conclusion deviates from the mainstream conclusion of existing studies. Finally, combining with the realistic two-sided market case—PC operating system, this paper explains this particular conclusion.
