Study on the Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Correlated with Residual Urine Volume in Male over 45 Years Old

Abstract:Objective To study on the lower urinary tract symptoms correlated with residual urine volume. Methods From September 2005 to December 2005, the international prostate symptom score(IPSS) enrolling study was used in the men of over 45 years having lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS). At the same time, residual urine volume was determined by ultrasonography. Results In the 1256 cases of investigated canididaes, 552 cases had lower urinary tract symptoms. Among them, 64.7% had mild LUTS, 33.9% had moderate LUTS and 1.4% had severe LUTS. The toatl average value of residual urine volume was 37.69±99.159 ml. There was statistical significance of total difference of residual urine volume in every aged group(P=0.001). The UTS was slightly correlated with residual urine volume(r=0.303,P0.01). The urinary bothsomeness symptom score was slightly correlated with residual urine volume (r=0.099,P0.001). Conclusion LUTS is gradually aggravated with the increase of men's age. But there is not obvious increase in residual urine volume. Residual urine volume can induce LUTS, However, it's correlation is not closely.
