Abstract:Scrambling code planning (SCP) for time-division synchronous code-division multiple-access (TD-SCDMA) systems is a challenging issue due to the poor cross correlations between the spreading codes generated by cell-specific scrambling codes. In this paper, a novel SCP algorithm is proposed. Intercell interference is modeled as a function not only of the cross correlations between spreading codes but of the radio propagation conditions and traffic distributions as well. The cross correlation of spreading codes is analyzed, and the concept of the scrambling code family is proposed to simplify the code planning process. The proposed algorithm facilitates the assignment and selection of scrambling codes. Numerical results shows that the proposed algorithm can achieve a much lower intercell interference than the existing SCP algorithms.

Abstract:In time-division duplex (TDD) system, precoding matrix for downlink transmission can be obtained from estimation of uplink pilots by using reciprocity. However, if the channel is time-varying, the channel difference would cause codeword mismatch between transmitter and receiver, which leads to performance degradation. In this paper, a codebook based precoding scheme is proposed for TDD systems to decrease the probability of codeword mismatch between both sides. Moreover, a linear interpolation method is used to estimate the uplink channel at the receiver, which would reduce the channel difference caused by time delay. Simulations show that the proposed scheme could significantly improve the link performance compared to the existing methods.

Abstract:Frequency allocation and scrambling code allocation are challenging issues for TD-SCDMA networks. P roper allocation schemes should not only meet traffic volume requirement and networking constraints, but suppress intercell interference effectively as well. This paper investigates joint frequency and scrambling code allocation, in order to take full use of the freedom degrees owned by these two resources and thus suppress interference to the greatest extent. A complete model of intercell interference is established, taking radio propagation condition, traffic distribution, frequency orthogonality and code correlation into consideration. A novel two-step joint allocation algorithm is proposed, with joint frequency and scrambling code family allocation in the first step and then scrambling code selection in the second step. Therefore, the minimum interference is achieved by the joint allocation, and computational complexity is greatly reduced by the two-step implementation. Numerical results show that in interference suppression point of view, our proposed joint allocation outperforms the sequential allocation commonly used in engineering.

Abstract:For the asymmetry of uplink and downlink traffic in TDD-CDMA system, there would be serious interference between among the cells. The dynamic channel allocation algorithm would thus be adopted to reduce the interference. In this paper, a novel and advanced DCA algorithm based on the average power value is presented. The algorithm raises the channel utilization and system capacity. Simulation results show that this algorithm can obviously improve the system performance.

Abstract:Uplink capacity of multi-cell multi-service multi-carrier TD-SCDMA system employing smart antenna and multi-user detection is investigated by analysis and simulation. Relation between the user numbers and the required signal-to-noise ratios is derived. Neighboring cell interference is studied, and its statistics are obtained under the conditions of different scrambling code allocation schemes. Capacity is then expressed with respect to outage probability. Multi-service capacity planes are presented by simulation. which indicates intuitively the maximum numbers of supportable concurrent users in different service groups, either code resource limited or interference limited.

Abstract:Two kinds of receivers' structures and algorithms of time division-synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) system based on joint detection (JD) or RAKE were analyzed. Transmission performance of these two kinds of receivers were compared through simulation considering multi-user under different multi-path fading conditions with various speeds in both uplink and downlink, and the implementation complexity was analyzed. Analysis result shows that because of multi-user signal synchronicity in downlink, RAKE receiver performs well with low complexity, while in uplink the performance of JD receiver, which is about the same as its downlink, is much better than that of RAKE receiver. RAKE receiver is sensitive to slow speed and deep fading condition, and there obviously exists error floor in uplink under multi-user condition.

Abstract:An algorithm of channel and carrier frequency offset joint estimation is proposed in this paper with analyzing the characteristic of carrier frequency offset and wireless channel in Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) system. Frequency offset and channel parameters can be uncoupled by means of partly correlating the training sequence and calculating difference, then they are estimated accurately through iteration. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm performs quite well in both frequency offset and channel estimation. The frequency offset estimation performance is closed to Cramér-Rao bound, and the link performance is good. The proposed method has low complexity and strong practicability. It can be used in other Time Division Duplex (TDD) CDMA systems.

Abstract:The main objective of this paper is to present new receiver structures to improve the applicability of a recently developed multicarrier CDMA architecture based on complete complementary codes. A mathematical description of the new system is presented in this paper. It is found that though it is the offset-stack scheme that guarantees high spectral efficiency and scalable rate-matching, error propagation under multipath fading noisy channel conditions is generated due to such special spreading modulation scheme and the corresponding recursive receiver. In order to avoid error propagation, the precondition of multipath replica separation is derived mathematically so that a non-recursive receiver can be employed. The range of the channel delay spread is discussed and the impact of the time shift in offset-stack spreading modulation on spectral efficiency is analyzed. Then, a RAKE receiver is proposed to further improve the performance through multipath diversity. Simulations are carried out under multipath fading noisy channel conditions to further verify the theoretical analysis. Performance loss caused by error propagation is observed by comparing the performances of the recursive receiver and the non-recursive receiver. With the same spectral efficiency, the proposed offset-stack scheme and the RAKE receiver gain obvious performance improvement compared to the existing offset-stack scheme and the recursive receiver. An error probability of synchronization error for TD-SCDMA system

Abstract:The error probability according to the synchronization error for closed loop suynchronization control of TD-SCDMA system was investigated. In case of Q=1/3, it seems to be urban area, the error probability of synchronization was around 10% for ·=-3dB and no strong sensitivity for speed of MS. However, in case of Q=1, the error probability of synchronization was around 30 to 50% for ·=-3dB. This means that if MS was in central of big city, the system capacity will be depredated because of the synchronization error.

Abstract:TD-SCDMA standard is one of the main three technology comparing with the Beyond 3G, the main difference is :there is a single antenna equipped at the terminal in the TD-SCDMA system while there are more than one antenna equipped at the terminal in the Beyond 3G system. A cooperative TD-SCDMA method is put forward in this paper Using cooperative partner's antenna forms the virtual array. The partners share their antennas. Comparing with now the non-cooperative TD-SCDMA systems it gets better performance. A signal model of this method is put forward. Two cooperative schemes are put forward. As illustrated in the theory and simulation result, comparing with the non-cooperative now the TD-SCDMA better diversity performance is got, but at price of complexity of the terminal. and the base station.

Abstract:When the time dispersive channel deteriorates, the excellent interference-free performance of CDMA system spread with loosely synchronized code (LS-CDMA) may not be guaranteed any more. The goal of our study is to improve the robustness for LS-CDMA system against channel deterioration. Based on theoretical and experimental analysis, it is found that code allocation algorithm, which is seldom mentioned for LS-CDMA before, has great impact on the interference-resist ability of the system. We define a new parameter to reflect system robustness and propose a novel code allocation algorithm aiming to maximize this parameter. Simulation results show that system employing the proposed algorithm has superior interference-resist performance compared with system based on random code allocation algorithm, especially when the system load is not very heavy

Abstract:To improve the spectral efficiency for uplink data transmissions in TD-SCDMA, the authors propose a scheme to transmitter and receiver for uplink. In the transmitter, qausi-synchronous CDMA and QAM is employed, and a set of preferentially phased Gold sequences, which have good cross-correlations around the origin, are used as the spreading sequences. In the receiver, successive interference cancellation is employed to remove or suppress sever multiuser interference, and this detector is easy to implement and apt to Rayleigh fading channel. The simulation results show that if smart antenna is utilized to suppress multipath and the synchronization error between users is limited in 3/8 chip period, the symbol error rate (SER) performance approaches single user bound (SUB) and spectral efficiency amounts to 4bit/s/Hz, after the proposed scheme is applied.

Abstract:Scrambling is one of the key processes in the asynchronous wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) systems. It overcomes the problem that the number of orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) codes is relatively small and system capacity is consequently constrained. In this paper, the characteristics of S(2) short codes and their impacts on the performance of multiuser detection (MUD) are investigated. We demonstrate that for the same MUD, S(2) short code scrambling can complicate the multiple access interference (MAI) and increase the difficulty of signal detection. However, when more users are served, MUDs in the scrambled system will outperform those in the non-scrambled one. Compared with the conventional single user detection, the adaptive linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) MUD algorithm dealing with the output of matched filter (MF) and the constant modulus (CM) blind MUD algorithm at chip rate can both suppress the MAI more effectively and enhance the bit error rate (BER) performance of the scrambled system more prominently.

Abstract:An improved channel estimation technique based on the Steiner low-cost channel estimator is proposed, which is widely used in TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) cellular mobile radio systems. TD-SCDMA is also known as third-generation mobile systems where adaptive antennas are employed. As additive noise has a great adverse effect on the performance of the Steiner estimator, the proposed method employs time-correlated post-processing with a threshold filter to reduce channel noise and compensate channel variations. Furthermore, channel estimation combining direction-of-arrivals (DOAs) is performed, which can reduce channel interferences without adding computational complexity, for the information of DOAs has been obtained by the inherent adaptive antenna system. The performance of the improved channel estimator is compared with conventional channel estimation approaches, and numerical results show that the new approach can lead to considerable performance enhancement even in high-speed vehicle propagation environments. Abstract:1 This work was performed when Mr. Wu was a summer intern at Microsoft Research, China. Abstract-In this paper, we examine the problem of optimal spreading code assignment in an ad hoc DS-CDMA wireless network. The problem is formulated in two ways, with the opti- mization criteria being minimizing the congestion measure, and minimizing the total consumed power, respectively. Either for- mulation is converted to an optimization of the weighted total squared cross-correlation (WTSC), after some mathematical simplification. We then devise algorithms to reach some local minima of the optimization. Simulation results show significant reduction in the network congestion measure and power con- sumption, compared with random code allocation.
