Can Marxism be Back to Everyday Life via Cultural Theory?

Abstract:Since 1970s, there in western thoughts of Marxism has been a "cultural turn", which has notably changed the tradition of Western Marxism established by Lukacs: It broadens the vision of Marxist theory, provides a valuable way to exercise its critique of Capitalism, and takes a particular position with its cultural critique in global academics, affecting on a broad scale global Marxism; It, nevertheless, challenges Marxist meta-theory. Fundamentally, the cultural turn rewrites Marxist theory, transforming it from the anti-capitalist manifesto to the general anti-power cultural practice, from the theory of production mode transformation to that of choice of life styles, and from historical theory to that of text (discourse). Although cultural theory emphasizes the importance of overall revolution centering on everyday life, it is hardly possible to achieve this goal through its approaches. Therefore, it is difficult to regard it as a main trend of a new Marxist theory.
