Diagnosis Value of Mini-Mental State Examination Combined with the Delay Memory and Verbal Fluency in Alzheimer's Disease

Abstract:Objective To study the vale of mini-mental state examination(MMSE) combined with the delay memory and verbal fluency in Alzheimer's disease(AD),and provide the bases for early diagnosis.Methods AD patients and normal people who matched in age,sex and educational degree with AD patients were measured with MMSE,fluid object mapper(FOM) and rapid verbal retrieve(RVR),AD patients were evaluated with clinical dementia rating(CDR),and sensitivity,specificity,accuracy and area under ROC curve were analyzed with discriminant analysis and ROC curve analysis.Results There was distinctly impairment in total cognition function and verbal fluency function in mild,middle and severe AD stage(MMSE score 17.71±3.71,13.20±3.55,3.29±4.46 and RVR score 16.58±5.50,10.30±3.09,2.29±4.54 respectively),while delay memory function declined in the early stage of AD and the obvious decline was found in moderate and severe AD(FOM scores were 9.75.±4.60,5.80±3.85,2.57±3.95 respectively).Total accuracy,specificity and sensitivity in AD diagnosis was FOMRVRMMSE,FOMMMSE RVR and RVRMMSE FOM in turn by using discriminant analysis,while the area under the ROC curve was RVRFOMMMSE.Conclusions The sensitivity,specificity and accuracy in AD diagnosis were improved by MMSE combining with the delay memory and verbal fluency.
