Abstract:In this paper, the following quantum-logic valued measure convergence theorem is proved: Let (L1, 0, 1) be a Boolean algebra, (L2, ⊥, ⊕, 0, 1) be a quantum logic and {μ n : n ∈ N} be a sequence of s-bounded (L2, ⊥, ⊕, 0, 1)-valued measures which are defined on (L1, 0, 1). If for each a ∈ (L1, 0, 1), {μ n (a)}n ∈ N is an order topology $\tau_{0}^{L_2}$ Cauchy sequence, when {v(a)} convergent to 0, {μ n (a)} is order topology $\tau_{0}^{L_2}$ convergent to 0 for each n ∈ N, where v is a nonnegative finite additive measure which is defined on (L1, 0, 1), then when {v(a)} convergent to 0, {μ n (a)} are order topology $\tau_{0}^{L_2}$ convergent to 0 uniformly with respect to n ∈ N.

Abstract:The famous Antosik-Mikusinski convergent theorem on the Abel topological groups has very extensive applications in measure theory, summation theory and other analysis fields. In this paper, we establish the theorem on a class of effect algebras equipped with the ideal topology. This paper shows also that the ideal topology of effect algebras is a useful topology in studying the quantum logic theory.

Abstract:We outline a proof of a remarkable conjecture of Labastida-Mari{\~n}o-Ooguri-Vafa about certain new algebraic structures of quantum link invariants and the integrality of infinite family of new topological invariants. Our method is based on the cut-and-join analysis and a special rational ring characterizing the structure of the Chern-Simons partition function.

Abstract:The topos approach to the formulation of physical theories includes a new form of quantum logic. We present this topos quantum logic, including some new results, and compare it to standard quantum logic, all with an eye to conceptual issues. In particular, we show that topos quantum logic is distributive, multi-valued, contextual and intuitionistic. It incorporates superposition without being based on linear structures, has a built-in form of coarse-graining which automatically avoids interpretational problems usually associated with the conjunction of propositions about incompatible physical quantities, and provides a material implication that is lacking from standard quantum logic. Importantly, topos quantum logic comes with a clear geometrical underpinning. The representation of pure states and truth-value assignments are discussed. It is briefly shown how mixed states fit into this approach.

Failure of the Blok-Esakia Theorem in the monadic setting

Abstract:The Blok-Esakia Theorem establishes that the lattice of superintuitionistic logics is isomorphic to the lattice of extensions of Grzegorczyk's logic. We prove that the Blok-Esakia isomorphism $\sigma$ does not extend to the fragments of the corresponding predicate logics of already one fixed variable. In other words, we prove that $\sigma$ is no longer an isomorphism from the lattice of extensions of the monadic intuitionistic logic to the lattice of extensions of the monadic Grzegorczyk logic.

Abstract:We formalize the theory of quantum Hoare logic (QHL) [TOPLAS 33(6),19], an extension of Hoare logic for reasoning about quantum programs. In particular, we formalize the syntax and semantics of quantum programs in Isabelle/HOL, write down the rules of quantum Hoare logic, and verify the soundness and completeness of the deduction system for partial correctness of quantum programs. As preliminary work, we formalize some necessary mathematical background in linear algebra, and define tensor products of vectors and matrices on quantum variables. As an application, we verify the correctness of Grover's search algorithm. To our best knowledge, this is the first time a Hoare logic for quantum programs is formalized in an interactive theorem prover, and used to verify the correctness of a nontrivial quantum algorithm.

Abstract:We are concerned with log-majorization for matrices in connection with the multivariate Golden--Thompson trace inequality and the Karcher mean (i.e., a multivariate extension of the weighted geometric mean). We show an extension of Araki's log-majorization and apply it to the $\alpha$-$z$-Rényi divergence in quantum information. We discuss the equality cases in the multivariate trace inequality of Golden--Thompson type and in the norm inequality for the Karcher mean. The paper includes an appendix to correct the proof of the author's old result on the equality case in the norm inequality for the weighted geometric mean.

Logics of upsets of De Morgan lattices

Abstract:We study logics determined by matrices consisting of a De~Morgan lattice with an upward closed set of designated values, such as the logic of non-falsity preservation in a given finite Boolean algebra and Shramko's logic of non-falsity preservation in the four-element subdirectly irreducible De Morgan lattice. The key tool in the study of these logics is the lattice-theoretic notion of an $n$-filter. We study the logics of all (complete, consistent, and classical) $n$-filters on De Morgan lattices, which are non-adjunctive generalizations of the four-valued logic of Belnap and Dunn (of the three-valued logics of Priest and Kleene, and of classical logic). We then show how to find a finite Hilbert-style axiomatization of any logic determined by a finite family of prime upsets of finite De Morgan lattices and a finite Gentzen-style axiomatization of any logic determined by a finite family of filters on finite De Morgan lattices. As an application, we axiomatize Shramko's logic of anything but falsehood.

Abstract:We continue work of our earlier paper (Lewitzka and Brunner: Minimally generated abstract logics, Logica Universalis 3(2), 2009), where abstract logics and particularly intuitionistic abstract logics are studied. Abstract logics can be topologized in a direct and natural way. This facilitates a topological study of classes of concrete logics whenever they are given in abstract form. Moreover, such a direct topological approach avoids the often complex algebraic and lattice-theoretic machinery usually applied to represent logics. Motivated by that point of view, we define in this paper the category of intuitionistic abstract logics with stable logic maps as morphisms, and the category of implicative spectral spaces with spectral maps as morphisms. We show the equivalence of these categories and conclude that the larger categories of distributive abstract logics and distributive sober spaces are equivalent, too.

Entropic Quantum Central Limit Theorem and Quantum Inverse Sumset Theorem

Abstract:We establish an entropic, quantum central limit theorem and quantum inverse sumset theorem in discrete-variable quantum systems describing qudits or qubits. Both results are enabled by using our recently-discovered quantum convolution. We show that the exponential rate of convergence of the entropic central limit theorem is bounded by the magic gap. We also establish an ``quantum, entropic inverse sumset theorem,'' by introducing a quantum doubling constant. Furthermore, we introduce a ``quantum Ruzsa divergence'', and we pose a conjecture called ``convolutional strong subaddivity,'' which leads to the triangle inequality for the quantum Ruzsa divergence. A byproduct of this work is a magic measure to quantify the nonstabilizer nature of a state, based on the quantum Ruzsa divergence.

Abstract:The Quantum Alternating Operator Ansatz (QAOA) and its predecessor, the Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm, are one of the most widely used quantum algorithms for solving combinatorial optimization problems. However, as there is yet no rigorous proof of convergence for the QAOA, we provide one in this paper. The proof involves retracing the connection between the Quantum Adiabatic Algorithm and the QAOA, and naturally suggests a refined definition of the `phase separator' and `mixer' keywords.

Abstract:Matrix configurations define noncommutative spaces endowed with extra structure including a generalized Laplace operator, and hence a metric structure. Made dynamical via matrix models, they describe rich physical systems including noncommutative gauge theory and emergent gravity. Refining the construction in [25], we construct a semi-classical limit through an immersed submanifold of complex projective space based on quasi-coherent states. We observe the phenomenon of oxidation, where the resulting semi-classical space acquires spurious extra dimensions. We propose to remove this artifact by passing to a leaf of a carefully chosen foliation, which allows to extract the geometrical content of the noncommutative spaces. This is demonstrated numerically via multiple examples.

Abstract:We introduce the consistent topological structure and neighborhood structure into the logical framework for providing the logical foundation and logical normalization for the approximate reasoning, We present the concept of the formulae mass, the knowledge mass and the approximating knowledge closure of the knowledge library by means of topological closure. We obtain the fundamental framework of type-I topological logics. In this framework, we present the type-I topological algorithm of the simple approximate reasoning and multi-approximate reasoning. In the frameworks of type-I strong topological logics, we present the type-I topological algorithm of multidimensional approximate reasoning and multiple multidimensional approximate reasoning. We study the type-I completeness and type-I perfection of the knowledge library in the framework of topological logical frameworks. We construct the type-I knowledge universe and prove that the second class knowledge universe of type-I is coincident with the first class knowledge universe of type-I, therefore the type-I knowledge universe is stable. We construct a self-extensive type-I knowledge library and the type-I expert system. In this expert system, the new approximate knowledge acquired by the self-extensive type-I knowledge library KI will not beyond the type-I approximate knowledge closure, (K 0)-, of the initial knowledge library K0. Therefore, the precision of all new acquired approximate knowledge of this automatic reasoning system will be controlled well by the type-I approximate knowledge closure (K0)- of the initial knowledge library K0. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

Abstract:The quantum mechanics is proved to admit no hidden-variable in 1960s, which means the quantum systems are contextual. Revealing the mathematical structure of quantum mechanics is a significant task. We develop the approach of partial Boolean algebra to characterize the contextuality theory with local consistency and exclusivity, and then prove that the finite quantum systems are determined by atoms using two graph structure theorems. We also generalize our work to infinite cases. Our conclusions indicate that the quantum mechanics is a graph-structured combination of multiple hidden-variable theories, and provide a precise mathematical framework for quantum contextuality

A Matrix Big Bang on a Quantum Computer

Abstract: M-theory is a mysterious theory that seeks to unite different string theories in one lower dimension. The most studied example is eleven dimensional but other dimensions have been considered. The non-critical M-theories seek to unite different non-critical string theories. From the point of view of computing, non-critical M-theories should be simpler to simulate as they have fewer fields than eleven dimensional M-theory. The simplicity of non-critical M-theory carries over to quantum computing and we show that the quantum simulation requires fewer qubits and Pauli terms than critical M-theory. As an example quantum calculation we study the quantum computation of the ground state energy of Matrix models of non-critical M-theory in 3d in the finite difference and oscillator basis and compare the accuracy, number of qubits and number of Pauli terms of the different basis using the Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE) algorithm. We study non-critical M- Theory solutions with space-time singularities referred to as a "Matrix Big Bang" on the Quantum Computer using the Evolution of Hamiltonian (EOH) quantum algorithm using the Trotter approximation and compare the accuracy and results the can be obtained using quantum computation. Finally we consider the BRST quantization of the 3d M-theory Matrix model using quantum computation and compute BRST invariant states by studying the BRST Laplacian using the VQE algorithm.
The ZX-calculus as a Language for Topological Quantum Computation

Abstract:Unitary fusion categories formalise the algebraic theory of topological quantum computation. These categories come naturally enriched in a subcategory of the category of Hilbert spaces, and by looking at this subcategory, one can identify a collection of generators for implementing quantum computation. We represent such generators for the Fibonacci and Ising models, namely the encoding of qubits and the associated braid group representations, with the ZX-calculus and show that in both cases, the Yang-Baxter equation is directly connected to an important rule in the complete ZX-calculus known as the P-rule, which enables one to interchange the phase gates defined with respect to complementary bases. In the Ising case, this reduces to a familiar rule relating two distinct Euler decompositions of the Hadamard gate as $\pi/2$ Z- and X-phase gates, whereas in the Fibonacci case, we give a previously unconsidered exact solution of the P-rule involving the Golden ratio. We demonstrate the utility of these representations by giving graphical derivations of the single-qubit braid equations for Fibonacci anyons and the single- and two-qubit braid equations for Ising anyons. We furthermore present a fully graphical procedure for simulating and simplifying braids with the ZX-representation of Fibonacci anyons.
