Abstract:The electronic compass based on magnetic resistance sensor,reflects the characteristics of high precision and high sensitivity.In view of this,an electronic compass system based on the PNI sensor was proposed.It used an Atmega16 as the master chip.The data acquisition terminal was composed of SEN-R65 magnetic resistance sensor and a PNI11096 magnetic chip.The man-machine exchange platform was made up of a 1602 liquid crystal,a buzzer,diodes and buttons.The electronic compass realized multiple functions including displaying the current direction angle,multi-level menu operation,a guiding buzz,magnetic field calibration,directional navigation,dormancy energy-saving etc.Experiments show that the absolute error of the direction angle of the electronic compass is reduced to 1.73%.

Abstract:In this paper, a CMOS magnetic sensor integrated circuit (IC) for a perpendicular magnetic field is introduced. The sensor integrated circuit is designed and fabricated in a 0.6 mu m digital CMOS process. It consists of a pair of common-source split-drain magnetic field-effect transistor (MAGFET), a pre-processing circuit with a switches array, a correlated double sampling (CDS) circuit and a digital controlling part. The measurements of perpendicular magnetic field as well as the noise shaping are realized on-chip by the two functioning modes of the sensor integrated circuit.The MAGFET is sectorial with a radius of 48 mu m and an angle of 90 degrees, and the measured sensitivity SA (current-related sensitivity) is 3.61%/T. At the working frequency of 10 kHz, the sensitivity of the magnetic sensor is 2.62 V/T. (C) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The magnetometer systems applied in active magnetic control pico-satellite is introduced.The method for maintaining the best performance in extreme environments is proposed.Meanwhile, we also focused on the effectiveness of digital filters based on PauTa rule and L'MAD rule.What's more, solutions are proposed to improve the relationship between the real-time requirement and sensitivity.We can keep ourselves informed of the magnetic-field value via direct measurement and offset-strap measurement. The output data of our system linearly fit the measured magnetic field values and milli-Gauss resolution is available.The whole system, with low power consumption, small size and high resolution, has a good engineering application foreground for it is applicable in pico-satellite, electronic compass and inertial navigation for missiles and so on.

Abstract:This paper reviews currently existing electronic magnetic sensor technologies for navigation applications. Magnetic compasses have been used in navigation for centuries. The Earth's geomagnetic field is considered to provide accurate, reliable and economically available information for orientation. Meanwhile, modern magnetometers and compass calibration technologies have allowed the electronic compass to become a crucial navigation tool, even in times of modern satellite navigation using Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Magnetic sensor technologies, error modelling and compensating approaches have been reviewed in this paper. Current trends and the outlook for future development of the electronic compass are analysed.

Abstract:The digital Electronic compass based on geomagnetism measurement has the characteristics with very small size,low power consumption and starting up quickly.16-bit A/D converter converses directly the differential signal,which from the two-axis of sensor outputs,so it make the complex operational amplifiers in the circuit easy.Moreover,the SET/RESET function of HMC1021can eliminate efficiently offset and temperature effect introduced by the electronics as well as the bridge temperature drift.Accuracy is up to 1°.

Abstract:Magnetoelectric (ME) composites are found to be sensitive to both the intensity and the orientation of external magnetic field, therefore, they have been developed as compasses for in-plane AC magnetic field detection. However, the angular sensitivity of ME compasses is still low compared to other compasses, due to their insensitive resonant mode and poor coupling structure. Here, we propose a ME compass working at L-T mode by using a Metglas/PZT composite that integrated with a calibration algorithm. Detection of the intensity and di-rection of in-plane AC magnetic field is demonstrated synchronously with intensity and angle sensitivities of 0.001 Oe and +/- 0.1 degrees, respectively. In addition, when the calibration algorithms are applied, the angular sensi-tivity is significantly enhanced to +/- 0.02 degrees, one order of magnitude higher than that of other reported ME compasses, demonstrating a great potential for applications in magnetic positioning, magnetic field calibration, and other magnetic detection technologies.

Abstract:Based on the synchronized sampling function of sector split-drain magnetic field-effect transistor (MAGFET), the CMOS magnetic sensor integrated circuit is designed and developed in a 0.6 μm standard CMOS technology. The sector MAGFET works as the magnetic sensor cell, which works at the synchronized sampling functioning modes: the measurement functioning mode and the reference functioning mode. The magnetic sensor integrated circuits realize the measurement of magnetic field as well as the noise-shaping by the synchronized sampling functioning modes. The measurements of the sensor IC indicate that the noise-shaping works well by the synchronized sampling function. The sensitivity of the magnetic sensor integrated circuit is 2.62 V/T at the working frequency of 20 kHz.

Abstract:A novel fluxgate digital magnetic compass system is introduced based on fluxgate technology and two axis dip angle sensor. The algorithms of magnetic compass orientation technology are introduced. The principle of peak detection approach and the approach of digit driver is researched. The system uses Atmega16L MCU to processes the data, and to avoid stability problem caused traditional RC analog drive circuit; digital square-wave signal from the MCU is applied to directly drive the fluxgate sensor. Furthermore, the system resolution factor is guaranteed by sampling the fluxgate signal with special ADC (16bit). It has already been successfully applied to some type of digital magnetic compass.

Abstract:A new CMOS magnetic sensor integrated circuit has been developed in a 0.6μm CMOS technology. The single chip integration of the split-drain magnetic field-effect transistor (MAGFET) and the subsequent signal processing circuits is realized. With the pre-processing circuit and correlated double sampling (CDS) circuits, the fixed pattern noise (FPN) is greatly reduced. The MAGFET is sectorial with the radius of 48μm and the angle of 90 degree. The relative sensitivity of the magnetic sensor can be 87.3mV/(T·μs). © 2004 IEEE.

Abstract:A kind of digital compass based on magnetic resistance sensor was designed. The principle of the course angle measurement based on magnetic resistance sensor was analyzed, and it elaborates the scheme of course angle system design and implementation. FPGA was chosen as processor, and the embedded kernel was built up based on SOPC. The course angle measurement and digital display were realized. The error compensation was used in this system. The error analysis and contrast were given. This kind of course angle indicator is small volume and high precision. It can be applied to different carrier, and has high universality and practical value.

Abstract:Magnetoelectric (ME) composites exhibit high sensitivity for detecting the strength of weak magnetic field. Yet, they are not sensitive to the angle of a randomly orientated in-plane ac magnetic field, since the strain-mediated ME structures merely response to magnetic field along certain direction. In this article, an ME compass for detecting the intensity as well as the orientation of in-plane ac magnetic field is proposed. The ME compass is designed with the barbell-shaped structure, where NdFeB permanent magnets induce compressive stress on piezoelectric components via torque effect, so that the magneto-mechano-electric coupling effect is mediated by stress without dc magnetic bias field. The ME compass reveals a low resonant frequency (<50 Hz) that is favorable for practical applications. The contribution from d<sub>33</sub> piezoelectric coefficient is dominant to the ME effect of the compass, with an ME coefficient of 0.7302 V/cm Oe at resonance. The proposed device presents excellent performance for detecting in-plane ac magnetic field with arbitrary direction, where the sensitivities for intensity and angle are 0.01 Oe and ±0.2°, respectively. Additionally, the barbell-shaped structure brings advantages, such as simple construction, stable performance, and durability, indicating promising applications in angular sensors and compasses.

Abstract:Magnetic heading sensor V2X which senses magnet field with two Magneto-Inductive sensors, is connected to Intel-typed processor 80C196 in a robot control system for heading measurement. The relevant heading data accessing software structure in C196 code under RTOS μCOS-Ⅱ circumstance is provided simultaneously. Application shows that the design has high performance-cost ratio with precession of ±2°under a sampling frequency of 5 Hz.

Abstract:Three-axis magnetic sensor and dual-axis inclinometer are used to develop the three-dimensional magnetic electronic compass.The HMC1043 magnetic resistance sensor with three-axis can measure the earth magnetic density,and the SCA100T inclinometer can measure the roll and pitch angle of the compass.These signals are processed by signal processing circuit and then transferred to the MCU.The MCU collects these signals and then transmits them to a computer through the RS—232 interface.The computer has a VC program to process the data and display the azimuth,roll and pitch angles through an interface.To ensure the sensitivity of the magnetic resistance sensor,this system has a low power set/reset circuit.The compass's accuracy of the azimuth is 0.5°,and the resolution of the azimuth is 0.1°.

Abstract:Magnetic compass is widely used in many engineering, such as navigation, construction and exploration. Miniaturization and high precision is always the aim of compass research. Constant emergence of new components and micro-processor makes the research go. ahead quickly. In this paper, a pocket compass system based on fix-point digital signal processor (DSP) is designed. Tri-axis magnetoresistive sensors measure earth's magnetic field and dual-axis tilt sensors measure the carrier's attitude. The whole system hardware and software design are analyzed and the system's hardware and software architecture are gave. System software has to compensate the temperature characteristics of magnetoresistive sensor and tilt sensor Ferrous disturbance is a headache in high precise compass, which can badly affect the final result. How to eliminate the ferrous disturbance are also discussed in this paper.

Abstract:To solve the high cost of design and the high failure rate of common digital compass used triaxial magnetic sensor, this paper designed a digital compass which is composed of two-axis magnetic intensity sensor and two-axis accelerated sensor. It uses the direction cosine transformation matrix between the geographic coordinate system and the carrier coordinates of the Earthpsilas magnetic field and gravitational field to compute the absolute heading angle. The specific system architecture and the detailed mathematical model were also proposed in this paper. Aiming at the measurement errors caused by the fixed disturbance magnetic field in the environment, the digital signal filtering and zero drift compensation methods were adopted to improve the measurement accuracy. Using Honeywell magnetometer sensor HMC1052 and ADXL202 accelerometer sensor of AD Company as the key elements, the device has the advantage of low cost, strong anti-interference and high sensitivity, and so is suitable for the embedded application.

Abstract:This paper introduces a developed digital magnetic compass system based on the fluxgate technology. Firstly, to avoid stability problem caused by traditional RC analog drive circuit, digital square-wave signal from the MCU is applied to drive the fluxgate sensor. Then this system has adopted the median average filtering method to improve the accuracy and stability of the test data. The data of the magnetic field measurement value gets more accurate by this method. Finally, the system has compensated the constant external interference magnetic field to get the accurate direction. The design philosophy introduced in the paper has already been successfully applied to some type of digital magnetic compass.

Abstract:This paper presents a rapid and low-cost north-finder with error compensation (EC_North-Finder). An electronic compass is adopted as a core measuring unit and the steering mechanism of the instrument probe is adjusted through the translocation motor. Aiming at the influence of interference factors, a compensation algorithm which is based on the ellipse hypothesis is used in the calibration of electronic compass. Controlled by single chip microcomputer, the system could collect the location information; operate the translocation motor automatically and intelligently. In addition, the orientation data can also be processed and stored. The experiments results show that the precision of orientation data can be less than 0.8°.
