Abstract:In this paper we investigate the L2-solutions of vector refinement equations with exponentially decaying masks and a general dilation matrix. A vector refinement equation with a general dilation matrix and exponentially decaying masks is of the formφ(x)=∑α∈Zsa(α)φ(Mx-α),x∈Rs,where the vector of functions φ=(φ1,…,φr)T is in (L2(Rs))r, a≕(a(α))α∈Zs is an exponentially decaying sequence of r×r matrices called refinement mask and M is an s×s integer matrix such that limn→∞M-n=0. Associated with the mask a and dilation matrix M is a linear operator Qa on (L2(Rs))r given byQaf(x)≔∑α∈Zsa(α)f(Mx-α),x∈Rs,f=(f1,…,fr)T∈(L2(Rs))r.The iterative scheme (Qanf)n=1,2,…, is called vector subdivision scheme or vector cascade algorithm. The purpose of this paper is to provide a necessary and sufficient condition to guarantee the sequence (Qanf)n=1,2,… to converge in L2-norm. Abstract:This paper is concerned with multivariate refinement equations of the type φ = ∑_α∈ℤ^s a(α )φ (Mx - α ) , where ϕ is the unknown function defined on the s -dimensional Euclidean space ℝ s , a is a finitely supported nonnegative sequence on ℤ s , and M is an s × s dilation matrix with m :=|det M |. We characterize the existence of L 2 -solution of refinement equation in terms of spectral radius of a certain finite matrix or transition operator associated with refinement mask a and dilation matrix M . For s = 1 and M = 2, the sufficient and necessary conditions are obtained to characterize the existence of continuous solution of this refinement equation.

Abstract:We consider the solutions of refinement equations written in the form [ φ( x ) = ∑_α∈ℤ^sa( α)φ( Mx - α) + g( x ), x ∈ℝ^s ,; ] where the vector of functions ϕ = ( ϕ 1 , ..., ϕ r ) T is unknown, g is a given vector of compactly supported functions on ℝ s , a is a finitely supported sequence of r × r matrices called the refinement mask, and M is an s × s dilation matrix with m = |det M |. Inhomogeneous refinement equations appear in the construction of multiwavelets and the constructions of wavelets on a finite interval. The cascade algorithm with mask a, g , and dilation M generates a sequence ϕ n , n = 1, 2, ..., by the iterative process [ φ _n( x ) = ∑_α∈ℤ^sa( α)φ _n - 1( Mx - α) + g( x ), x ∈ℝ^s ,; ] from a starting vector of function ϕ 0 . We characterize the L p -convergence (0 < p < 1) of the cascade algorithm in terms of the p -norm joint spectral radius of a collection of linear operators associated with the refinement mask. We also obtain a smoothness property of the solutions of the refinement equations associated with the homogeneous refinement equation.

In this paper, we characterize the optimal smoothness of a multiple refinable function associated with homogeneous refinement equations in terms of the spectral radius of the corresponding transition operator restricted to a suitable finite-dimensional invariant subspace when M is an isotropic dilation matrix. Abstract:Let be an expanding matrix and let be a digit set. We study the L1-solutions of the following functional equations: under the conditions all ci > 0 and , where q = |det(A)|. We show that if the equation has an L1-solution, then the solution is positive, bounded, unique up to a constant multiplication and has compact support. With regard to the existence of L1-solutions of the equations, we give a simple sufficient condition for no L1-solutions and a characterization for the existence of L1-solutions. As to their applications, we prove that, if the sum rule on coefficients holds, the equation has an L1-solution.

Abstract:The regularity of refinable functions is an important issue in all multiresolution analysis and has a strong impact on applications of wavelets to image processing, geometric and numerical solutions of elliptic partial differential equations. The purpose of this paper is to characterize the regularity of refinable functions with exponentially decaying masks and a dilation matrix whose eigenvalues have the same modulus. The main results of this paper are really extensions of some results in Cohen et al. (1999) [5], Jia (1999) [17] and Lorentz and Oswald (2000) [28].

Abstract:Biorthogonal multiple wavelets are generated from refinable function vectors by using the multiresolution analysis. In this paper we provide a general method for the construction of compactly supported biorthogonal multiple wavelets by refinable function vectors which are the solutions of vector refinement equations of the form φ (x) = ∑_α∈ℤ^s a(α )φ (Mx - α ), x ∈ℝ^s , where the vector of functions ϕ = ( ϕ 1 , …, ϕ r ) T is in (L_2 (ℝ^s ))^r ,a = :(a(α ))_α∈ℤ^s is a finitely supported sequence of r × r matrices called the refinement mask, and M is an s × s integer matrix such that lim n →∞ M − n = 0. Our characterizations are in the general setting and the main results of this paper are the real extensions of some known results.

Abstract:In the present paper, an iterative algorithm is proposed for solving the generalized (P,Q)-reflexive solution group of a system of quaternion matrix equations ∑l=1M(AlsXlBls+ClsXl ̃Dls)=Fs,s=1,2,...,N. A generalized (P,Q)-reflexive solution group, as well as the least Frobenius norm generalized (P,Q)-reflexive solution group, can be derived by choosing appropriate initial matrices, respectively. Moreover, the optimal approximate generalized (P,Q)-reflexive solution group to a given matrix group can be derived by computing the least Frobenius norm generalized (P,Q)-reflexive solution group of a reestablished system of matrix equations. Finally, some numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the algorithm.
Mixed precision iterative refinement for least squares with linear equality constraints and generalized least squares problems

Abstract:Recent development on mixed precision techniques has largely enhanced the performance of various linear algebra solvers, one of which being the least squares problem $\min_{x}\lVert b-Ax\rVert_{2}$. By transforming the least squares problem into an augmented linear system, mixed precision techniques are capable of refining the lower precision solution to the working precision. In this paper, we propose mixed precision iterative refinement algorithms for two variants of the least squares problem -- the least squares problem with linear equality constraints (LSE) and the generalized least squares problem (GLS). Both classical and GMRES-based iterative refinement can be applied to augmented systems of these two problems to improve the accuracy of the solution. For reasonably well-conditioned problems our algorithms reduce the execution time by a factor of 40% in average compared to the fixed precision ones from LAPACK on the x86-64 architecture.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the solutions to the polynomial Diophantine matrix equations. Analytical solutions are obtained explicitly by solving a class of Stein equations with nilpotent coefficient matrices. The proposed method is more general and applicable than many existing ones while reducing the computation burden and can find great use in many other control problems. An example is given to illustrate the effect of the method.

Abstract:In this paper, the higher-order singular value decomposition and the LU decomposition are applied to solve the general multi-linear systems, rather than special structure like M− tensor. Here, we transform the general tensor system into a form with a special structure. In addition, an iterative refinement method is constructed by the information of the coefficient tensor itself, the higher-order singular value, instead of the spectra of iterative tensor. Finally, the numerical experimental results are given to demonstrate the efficiency of the iterative refinement method.
