Abstract:The tradition of general education can be traced back to ancient Greece and ancient Rome.By the late 19th century and early 20th century,the classical liberal arts education concept was converted into the modern concept of liberal education and general education,which was especially strong in the USA.After World War II,in the promotion of multi-power,as an educational philosophy and mode of education,liberal education or general education gradually spread to Japan,Germany,as a tool for promoting democracy.After 1980s,the modes of general education were gradually adopted in China and some European countries in response to the needs of the knowledge society for interdisciplinary talents and general skills.
