Abstract:[Objective]To evaluate the effect of hyaluronic acid in preventing knee joint adhension after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.[Method]Sixty patients underwent arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction between January 2009-December 2010.They were randomly divided into two groups. One group received hyaluronic acid injection once per week from the day of surgery, totally for 5 doses. The other group received nothing. All patients came back for evaluation 6 weeks after surgery. The following parameters were recorded and compared between these two groups:the knee joint range of motion(ROM),total improvement rate of Lysholm score and visual analog scores(VAS).[Result]All were followed-up for 6 weeks. The average range of motion was 141.25°±9.98° in hyaluronic acid group and 133.75°±8.56° in control group. The total improvement rates of Lysholm score were 84.8% and 65.4%,respectively.The VAS of these two groups were 4.20±1.15 and 6.10±1.59.There were statistically significant differences between groups in ROM,Lysholm score and VAS(P0.05).[Conclusion]The hyaluronic acid injection has been proved to be effective in preventing knee joint adhension after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
