Regrowth,fall dormancy and persistence of alfalfa varieties released by Chinese Forage Variety Registration Commission

Abstract:Study on the yield,regrowth,fall dormancy and persistence of Chinese alfalfa varieties approved by Chinese Forage Variety Registration Commission was carried out and the results indicated that most of them were dormancy types and very few of them were semi-dormancy types.In terms of growth features,most of them were mid-slow and slow growth types and very few of them were rapid growth types.Meanwhile,most of them were mid-yield types and very few of them were high-yield types.However,as for persistence,most of them were strong persistence types.Based on the research results,it could be suggested that semi-dormancy and dormancy varieties should be bred in southern China,and high yield,rapid regrowth and strong persistence varieties should be bred in Northern China.
