Abstract:This paper introduces the experiments,design and engineering application of modern bamboo single family house.The features of foundation,wall,floor,and roof are discussed in detail.The design and construction of the bamboo house is based on the properties of laminated bamboo,including high strength-light-weight and stiffness-weight ratios,prefabrication,better durability etc.Crucial technics including fire proof,moisture prevention,and anti-seismic design etc were solved.The research and construction of bamboo single family houses validate that such a new type of environmental friendly construction form is suitable for applications in commercial buildings and residential houses.

Abstract:To study the influence of different structural systems on environmental resistance, the life cycle of concrete, steel, masonry and bamboo structures with the same arrangement per square meter was evaluated. The main stages, such as the acquisition and transportation of raw materials, the pro-duction of building materials and the construction of buildings, were analysis quantitatively by the method of life cycle. The results show that the main pollution stages of the buildings are the trans-portation and production of building materials. Specifically, the principal impact on the environment is the consumption of power and gasoline, as well as the emissions of large amounts of greenhouse gases. The study shows that bamboo frame house is the most suitable habitat green residential for hu-man beings.

Abstract:The research group led by Prof Xiao at the Hunan University and the University of Southern California had been working on developing various new types of structure elements using bamboo materials. One of the mile-stone projects is to design and build a modem residential house using these new products. The demonstration house has a foot square area of about 140 m(2), and total building floor area of about 230 m(2). The design attempts are to construct this modem bamboo house essentially following the design requirements set in design codes such as the Uniform Building Codes for lightweight wood frame buildings in North America. This paper presents the details of the design and some special considerations for construction.

Abstract:Recent social trends - the diversification of lifestyles, and revitalization of the sharing economy - has led to significant changes in the fundamental functions and residences, particularly in apartments. Therefore, this study aims to define an optimized residential space by analyzing housing forms and lifestyle change factors. The study further categorizes the characteristics and operation system in an integrated living space including the integrated experience design characteristics and organization system for service content development and operation. The study scope and methods to classify the characteristics and systems of integrated experience design in integrated housing are as follows: First, the characteristics of changes in housing forms and lifestyles were defined through literature and previous research. Second, in-depth interviews were conducted, and the study direction was established using the analyzed factors of space experience design. Third, the structure concept of living platforms and the systems for implementing experience design were classified using the actualized space experience design characteristics. This study focuses on the basic concepts and systems for implementing integrated experiences in residences. Subsequently, it approaches the direction and systems for changes in housing as a unified platform. This study provides a framework that can be theorized using the experience design system for living spaces derived from its results.

Abstract:Hanham Hall (Bristol) and Derwenthorpe (York) are two newly built eco-villages, and BedZED (London) is a famous environmentally friendly housing development project built more than 10 years ago. From energy-saving technology, ecological landscape, building combination and open space design, and architectural appearance and space design, this chapter analyzes these aspects of these eco-villages' features and advantages. It then sums up how the eco-village or eco-residence will benefit from good architectural design (indoor) and excellent community design (outdoor). It emphasizes the importance of the architectural design, economic, and ecological technology application balance. Furthermore, the article pointed out the eco-community's requirements and features: social, environmental, ecological, livable, and sustainable.

Abstract:Purpose/Background: As sustainability garners global attention, exploring green design in residential interiors is significant. This study examined the creation and management of green residential design in Baotou, China. Environmentally conscious interior design can improve residential satisfaction, health, and conservation. Methods: A qualitative approach involved semi-structured interviews with Baotou residents to gain insights into experiences with and perceptions of green residential design. Detailed interviews explored specific sustainable features residents valued along with challenges faced. Interview transcripts were systematically coded and subjected to rigorous thematic analysis. Findings: Analysis highlighted the rationale for implementing green elements in Baotou and their impacts on residential communities, individual wellbeing, and the environment. Findings offer concrete implications for stakeholders including architects, designers, and property managers seeking to create eco-conscious interiors. Conclusions: Dynamic policies on green design pose constraints to consistent implementation, impacting the feasibility of proposed decorative solutions. Still, findings demonstrate clear connections between sustainable features and increased residential quality, which can inform environmentally friendly urban development. Ongoing legal analysis and community consultation is critically needed to adapt strategies while meeting residents' needs.

Abstract:This paper aims at discussing the recent evolutions experienced by housing in Contemporary China through the study of the living habits of wealthy families in the fringes of Shanghai and Chongqing. The copycat phenomenon widespread across Chinese cities is one example, on the one hand, of the transformations of social uses of the house which gains a dimension of visibility; and, on the other hand, of an object that so far has been studied only through Western-centred conceptions of visuality and materiality. This research offers a different perspective, one of the inhabitants of neighbourhoods with exotic atmospheres. The analysis of the discourse of the residents as well as their daily practices of space appropriation and home decoration reveals that the house plays a new role in social interactions. As a social mean of representing the status of its occupants, the outside part of the building, its surroundings and some of the interior are assigned a visual dimension destined to the outside viewers and guests of the family, transforming the relationships between the public and private spheres which duality do not match the one of what is visible and what is invisible. Contrariwise to general views about the Western style neighbourhoods, what is offered to the view does not convey a process of westernisation or acculturation of the daily life, but expresses the will for a liberation from certain social constraints experienced in the former place of residency. The Chinese contemporary home is then, among this wealthier part of the population where domestic space is a valuable resource, the place of production of a new urbanity where different forms of sociality and representations coexist.
