Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the distribution and resistance of pathogenic bacteria causing urinary tract infections in the hospitalized patients of urology department so as to guide the reasonable clinical use of antibiotics.METHODS Between Jan 2011 and Dec 2012,a total of 1575 hospitalized patients in department of urology underwent the bacterial culture of mid-stream urine, then the bacterial identification and the drug susceptibility testing were performed by using PHOENIX 100 automicroscan systems, and the results were statistically analyzed.RESULTS A total of 598 strains of pathogenic bacteria were isolated from 1575 urine samples, among which there were 379(63.38%)strains of gram-negative bacteria,162(27.09%)strains of gram-positive bacteria, and 57(9.53%)strains of fungi. The Escherichia coli(37.63%),Enterococci faecalis(9.03%),Klebsiella pneumoniae(5.02%),Enterococcus faecium(3.85%),and Staphylococcus epidermidis(3.68%) ranked the top five species of pathogens. The E.coli was highly resistant to cephamycin,ampicillin,quinolone,tetracycline,aztreonam,trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole,and gentamicin, with the drug resistance rate more than 5 0.0 0%;but the drug resistance rate to meropenem was 0,imipenem 0.8 9%,amikacin 4.0 0%,and cefoperazone/sulbactam 5.33%.The E.faecalis was highly susceptible to ampicillin / sulbactam, piperacillin / tazobactam, and vancomycin, the drug resistance rates were 0,5.56%,and 7.41%,respectively.CONCLUSION The E.coli and E.faecalis are the predominant species of pathogens causing urinary tract infections in the hospitalized patients of urology department and are highly drug-resistant,thus the reasonable use of anti-biotics based on the drug susceptibility testing becomes very important.
