Abstract:Lakatos and Shapin have put forward different historiography thoughts of science and brought profound influence.Their differences mainly lie in three aspects that are the demarcation of internal and external history of science,the appropriateness of sociological explanation of science and the study context of the history of science.The historiography thoughts of science of Shpain surpass those of Lakatos and represent the direction of historiography thoughts of science development.

Abstract:This article bases on the debate of the relationship between Merton's early work and Hessen thesis,by analyzing the citation and the strategies in detail,we think that although they have issues of common concern on the relationship between science and society,they have substantive differences on the limitation of the external factors of science and the universality of the conclusions.Overall,they should be regarded as two works that have more antagonism than succession.

Abstract:The purpose of this note is to explain what is "analytical history", a modular and testable analysis of historical events introduced in a book published in 2002 (Roehner and Syme 2002). Broadly speaking, it is a comparative methodology for the analysis of historical events. Comparison is the keystone and hallmark of science. For instance, the extrasolar planets are crucial for understanding our own solar system. Until their discovery, astronomers could observe only one instance. Single instances can be described but they cannot be understood in a testable way. In other words, if one accepts that, as many historians say, "historical events are unique", then no testable understanding can be developed.

Abstract:Andrew Pickering,a contemporary sociologist,from the point of SSK,published his works of social study on the history of high-energy physics in his Constructing Quarks and others articles,which leaded to dispute in the circle of physicists and philosophers of science.This article analyses Pickering's case's study of the discovery of neutral current,points out that he wanted to set up a new kind of 'historical account',which independence of traditional scientists' account.His account forms a new kind of critical historiography approach.It is heuristic in the study of history of sciences.

Abstract:In the sphere of the practice of historical study,historical reason can be understood as the spiritual structure and intellectual equipment by and with which the historians try to comprehend the past.The sense of history is the core of historical reason.The consciousness of incessant changeability in human events,the sensitivity to the similarities and differences between the present and the past,a sound outlook of history,an open-minded but self-controlled historical imagination,the combination of microscopic historical study and macroscopic perspective,all those can be seen as the embodiments of the sense of history in the practice of historical study.The problem of the sense of history has not been explored in the agendas of the analytical school and the narrativist school in the field of historical theory.The present shift of the focus of historical theory can be taken as an opportunity for the theoretical clarification of historical reason and the sense of history.

Abstract:The teaching of history of science is impossible without excellent textbooks of history of science.However,excellent text-books should not be a memo pad.A notion history of nature science needs to discuss how the ontological basis of a fundamental theo-ry is formed,revised and restructed.Its writing materials are not the phenomena of nature per se,or independent abstract notions;instead,they are human activities,which means that the teaching of history of science should vividly reproduce the human activities in the historical circumstances.

Abstract:Recent studies of a text in one language and its translation in another (parallel texts) have revealed many syntactic, semantic, and discoursal similarities and differences that can be focused upon in preparing bilingual dictionaries, material for machine translation, and teaching translation methods to university students. To our knowledge, no one has yet analyzed the thematic organization or 'method of development' of parallel texts quantitatively. The present study looked at the thematic development of one text type in English (the source language) and the corresponding translations in Chinese (the target language). For this investigation, Halliday's (1994) categories for theme classification in English were used with some modification. The findings based on a statistical analysis indicate that despite a significant difference in the number of clauses for the parallel texts in the two languages, there is a highly significant correlation between the themes in English texts and their Chinese translations in terms of the assigned theme features and theme patterns selected. Finally some implications of the findings for teaching patterns of thematic choice and strategies used will be discussed with regard to teaching translation and establishing registers/text types across languages.

Abstract:As a form,time is an element which can not be avoided and is not so easy to feel in history study.Analysis of time has always been greatly appreciated by philosophers.Since the 20th century,the historical application of the concept of time has gradually increased,especially since the advent of the Braudel's theory of the longue durée,Koselleck as a historian engaged a more systematic theoretical thinking about time.In recent 10 years,the western historical theorists' thinking for time has formed a relatively concentrated theme.According to the history journal History and Theory,the first vertical series "The New Metaphysics of Time" provides the core material for analyzing this issue,these argues have strengthened our concern to historical time,and make the network of significance of the historical time able to gradually spread as well,but it is not enough to constitute a new metaphysics about time.

Abstract:From the perspective of the features and methodologies of discipline studies, the study of art history should not only lay emphasis on the rational investigation and archeological analysis of the works and materials, but also rely on the instinctive recreation and the understanding of human emotions of the historian. This is determined by the immaterialness of the objects of study. While attention is paid to the science and technology of the approaches to art history studies, emphasis should also be laid upon the status and function of cultural ideology in history studies. The objects of study and the process of development in the study of art history is also the history of thoughts. The history of artistic styles is a way of narration, but not the only and complete way. In the postmodern context, the ideology and methodology of art history studies must move onto a multiple, open, and poly-dimensional stage. The main tendency and feature is to move from the study of art history itself to the interdisciplinary, transnational and cross-cultural studies which put art history in the history of its society and culture rather than the linear, one-dimensional and closed ideas and narratives of art history.
[From relativism to evaluation. Recent trends in the historiography of science and the humanities]

Abstract:Historians of science have taken leave of finalism. No longer do they write teleological histories of scientific progress. Instead of a grand narrative on the triumph of science they now tend to write small stories on local knowledge. This is the result of several decades of criticism of Whig history. Starting with neo-marxist critique in the interwar years, enhanced in the social history of the 1970s, science was seen as an economic commodity and as a social product. Cultural history and anthropology added the view that scientists and scholars are mere mortals, muddling through messy life. This critique was topped off with postmodern criticism of knowledge as power, which translates into the accusation that historiography is only legitimating cultural and political oppression. To counter these allegations, many historians have insulated themselves into a kind of retro-historicism that shies away from any teleology, coherence, meaning and evaluation. It depicts the production of knowledge as a practical, local activity that is strictly limited to its cultural context. No claims to truth, validity, let alone progress or even development were allowed. This situation of rampant relativism could not last. Total abstinence of any evaluation of knowledge claims, quality of research or success of theories has proven unsatisfactory. The need has arisen to study broader issues of traveling knowledge and longer lines of scientific development. There is a shift of interest into traditions of knowledge that spring the bonds of locality and context. Why do some scientific theories and research practices succeed in surpassing paradigms and bridging epistemic ruptures? In this respect disciplines are in the process of being rehabilitated. Instead of oppressive structures they become the vehicles of sustained knowledge growth. Especially the role of education and academic training is focused on. Facing up to the charges of conceptual anachronism, historians of knowledge now opt for a cautiously evaluative history. The alternative would be an intellectually barren historicism.
A Textual Criticism on the Real Intent of "hessen Thesis"

Abstract:There is a creative point putting forward by an American science historian,L.R.Graham that the real intent of thesis is opposite to its literal meaning.In this paper,we examine all Hessen's life,his early works,and his correspondence with J.G Crowther,a British science reporter to prove that Professor Graham's conjecture is untenable.There is no evidence to say that Hessen did not agree with his own point expressed in 1931's paper.Hessen thesis was indeed a yielding to political pressure in part,but he maintained a distance from the mainstream point of the Soviet Union's view of the time.Bypassing the scientific knowledge of the Principle,criticizing the social roots of its theological content is also a strategy that avoids the hard issues,and it is a disguised form of protection of the core of the natural science.In this sense,Hessen's work was not without value.

Abstract:W. Dilthey’s program of “criticism of historical reason” was formed in a polemic with the legacy of I. Kant on the basis of transcendental reflection of the data of descriptive psychology. It was focused on understanding the radical difference between the sciences of the spirit and the sciences of nature. Starting from a critical rethinking of Kant's legacy within the boundaries of his own version of the academic philosophy of life, Dilthey began to talk about the fact that the reason, directing the cognitive activity of the subject, is characterized, first of all, not by the theoretical “purity”, but by its involvement in the “open” flow of history, which it gives meaning and sense through language. It interacts with historical experience, which arises through the synthesis of actual events perception in the time flow and memory images with real categories and concepts constructed by the intellect of the human subject. The ability to judge what is happening in history, its assessment in a humanistic perspective, is also considered by Dilthey as inseparable from the work of historical reason. The reason involved in the flow of time and life cannot be a carrier of theoretical “purity” and acts as inherently hermeneutic in its nature. Dilthey presented an interesting analysis of the main levels of hermeneutical procedure - emotional perception, expression and understanding, aimed at comprehension of the diversity of spiritual and cultural worlds in synchrony and diachrony of their existence. Denying the possibility of comprehending the meaning and sense of history by constructing substantialist schemes, he asserted the importance of narrative representation of the past in the light of the present. Dilthey's project of “criticism of historical reason” was based on the idea of the “openness” of the meaning of the past, due to its rootedness in the very way of human existence in time. This idea was inherited and further developed in the horizon of the fundamental ontology of M. Heidegger and other contemporary thinkers of hermeneutical orientation.
