Abstract:The effect of solar radiation on the growth and dominant species succession of Harmful algal blooms(HABs) was studied by the culture experiments in-situ in the East China Sea in Jun.2005.The results showed that the dominant species are Karenia mikimotoi,Prorocentrum donghaiense and Skeletonema costatum at station SZM in the areas of red tide.During the cultures, the succession of dominant species was obvious. The shift of the phytoplankton was from Karenia mikimotoi to Prorocentrum donghaiense and Skeletonema costatum co-dominating.The proportion of S.costatum was increased with the increasing solar radiation, finally,P.donghaiense was the dominant species. At station RB12,S.costatum,Chacroceros sp.and Pseudo-nitzschia sp.were the dominant species. When the solar radiation was lower than 4.4 MJ/m2 d,Chlorophyceae sp.shows more competitive than diatom, when solar radiation was increased to 10.4 MJ/m2 d,the dominant species was from Chacroceros sp.shifting to Pseudo-nitzschia sp.,and with increasing solar radiation, the succession of dominant species was complicated. From the growth rate of dominant species, the optimal solar radiation growth was 5.0 MJ/m2 d for P.donghaiense and K.mikimotoi, and was 23.0 MJ/m2 d for S.costatum and Chacroceros sp.,higher than P.donghaiense and K.mikimotoi.Under the eutrophication, light is the key factor for the growth and succession of phytoplankton during spring.
