A Research of Relationship between Social Capital and the Sense of Civic Participation——An Empirical Analysis Based on National Representative Samples

Abstract:Civic participation is a core value of democratic politics and good governance,and sense of civic participation is the necessary premise of autonomous participation.This paper is to examine the relationship between social capital and sense of civic participation empirically.The main finding is that participating volunteer organizations,which promotes both sense of political participation and community participation,is the most important social capital.In addition,participating official social organization and social tolerance can stimulate sense of political participation.However,trust fails to improve sense of civic participation,and trust acquaintances interfers with the formation of sense of political participation.Therefore,our country should spend much in activating citizen association network,especially voluntary organizations.It is also very important to promote generalized social trust,social tolerance and harmonious value in a modern complex and plural society.
