Abstract:Abstract In this paper, it is shown that there exists a connected topological group which is not homeomorphic to any $\omega $-narrow topological group, and also that there exists a zero-dimensional topological group $G$ with neutral element $e$ such that the subspace $X = G\setminus \{e\}$ is not homeomorphic to any topological group. These two results give negative answers to two open problems in Arhangel’skii and Tkachenko [Topological Groups and Related Structures (Atlantis Press, Amsterdam, 2008)]. We show that if a compact topological group is a $K$-space, then it is metrisable. This result gives an affirmative answer to a question posed by Malykhin and Tironi [‘Weakly Fréchet–Urysohn and Pytkeev spaces’, Topology Appl. 104 (2000), 181–190] in the category of topological groups. We also prove that a regular $K$-space $X$ is a weakly Fréchet–Urysohn space if and only if $X$has countable tightness.

Abstract:Given an open cover $\mathcal{U}$ of a topological space $X$, we introduce the notion of a star network for $\mathcal{U}$. The associated cardinal function $sn(X)$, where $e(X)\leq sn(X)\leq L(X)$, is used to establish new cardinal inequalities involving diagonal degrees. We show $|X|\leq sn(X)^{\Delta(X)}$ for a $T_1$ space $X$, giving a partial answer to a long-standing question of Angelo Bella. Many further results are given using variations of $sn(X)$. One result has as corollaries Buzyakova's theorem that a ccc space with a regular $G_\delta$-diagonal has cardinality at most $\mathfrak{c}$, as well as three results of Gotchev. Further results lead to logical improvements of theorems of Basile, Bella, and Ridderbos, a partial solution to a question of the same authors, and a theorem of Gotchev, Tkachenko, and Tkachuk. Finally, we define the Urysohn extent $Ue(X)$ with the property $Ue(X)\leq\min\{aL(X),e(X)\}$ and use the Erdős-Rado theorem to show that $|X|\leq 2^{Ue(X)\overline{\Delta}(X)}$ for any Urysohn space $X$.

Abstract:We prove that in the moduli space Md of degree d2 rational maps, any hyperbolic component in the disconnectedness locus and of Cantor circle type is a finite quotient of R4d-4-nxTn, where n is determined by dynamics. The proof uses some ideas from Riemann surface theory (Abel's Theorem), dynamical system and algebraic topology.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that if 2(lambda) < kappa and A subset of [kappa](lambda) is a MADF then the generalized Mrowka space psi(A\B) has no G(lambda) -diagonal, where B subset of A and vertical bar B vertical bar <= lambda. If a topological space X has a regular G(lambda) -diagonal and a local decreasing base of cardinality chi(X) for each x is an element of X, then vertical bar X vertical bar <= 2(dc(X).)(chi(X).lambda) , where dc(X) is the discrete cellularity of X and chi(X) is the character of X. As a corollary, we prove that if X is a DCCC (and hence, DC(omega(1)), weakly Lindelof or star Lindelof) first countable space with a regular G(delta)-diagonal then vertical bar X vertical bar <= 2(omega), which gives a positive answer to a question in [17]. Finally, we give another counterexample to a question of Ginsburg and Woods ([6]), which has nicer properties than the counterexamples constructed in [15] and [16].

Abstract:In this paper,we show that if a rectifiable space G is a locally Lindel(o)f ∑-space,then G is strongly paracompact,which improves a result given by Lin-Zhang-Zhang [Topology Appl.,2015,193:182-191].We prove that if a rectifiable space G has a compactification bG such that bG \ G is a locally σ-space,then G is either locally compact or separable and metrizable,which generalizes a result obtained by Arhangel'skii-Choban [Topology Appl.,2010,157(4):789-799].We also show that if a non-locally compact k-gentle paratopological group G has a compactification bG such that bG \ G has locally a Gδ-diagonal,then either G is a σcompact cosmic space,or bG is separable and metrizable,which generalizes two results given by Arhangel'skii [Topology Appl.,2007,154(6):1084-1088] and Liu [Topology Appl.,2009,156(5):849-854].

Abstract:In this paper, we firstly discuss the question: Is $l_{2}^{\infty}$ homeomorphic to a rectifiable space or a paratopological group? And then, we mainly discuss locally compact rectifiable spaces, and show that a locally compact and separable rectifiable space is $\sigma$-compact, which gives an affirmative answer to A.V. Arhangel'skiǐ and M.M. Choban's question [On remainders of rectifiable spaces, Topology Appl., 157(2010), 789-799]. Next, we show that a rectifiable space $X$ is strongly Fr$\acute{e}$chet-Urysohn if and only if $X$ is an $\alpha_{4}$-sequential space. Moreover, we discuss the metrizabilities of rectifiable spaces, which gives a partial answer for a question posed in \cite{LFC2009}. Finally, we consider the remainders of rectifiable spaces, which improve some results in \cite{A2005, A2007, A2009, Liu2009}.

Compact spaces homeomorphic to their respective squares

Abstract:We deal with topological spaces homeomorphic to their respective squares. Primarily, we investigate the existence of large families of such spaces in some subclasses of compact metrizable spaces. As our main result we show that there is a family of size continuum of pairwise non-homeomorphic compact metrizable zero-dimensional spaces homeomorphic to their respective squares. This answers a question of W. J. Charatonik. We also discuss the situation in the classes of continua, Peano continua and absolute retracts.

Abstract:A collection D of subsets of a space is minimal if each element of D contains a point which is not contained in any other element of D. Abase of a topological space is sigma-minimal if it can be written as a union of countably many minimal collections. We will construct a compact linearly ordered space X satisfying that X is not metrizable and every subspace of X has a sigma-minimal base for its relative topology. This answers a problem of Bennett and Lutzer in the negative.

Abstract:A topological space G is said to be a rectifiable space provided that there are a surjective homeomorphism φ:G×G→G×G and an element e∈G such that π1∘φ=π1 and for every x∈G we have φ(x,x)=(x,e), where π1:G×G→G is the projection to the first coordinate. In this paper, we mainly discuss the rectifiable spaces which are suborderable, and show that if a rectifiable space is suborderable then it is metrizable or a totally disconnected P-space, which improves a theorem of A.V. Arhangelʼskiı̌ (2009) in [8]. As an application, we discuss the remainders of the Hausdorff compactifications of GO-spaces which are rectifiable, and we mainly concerned with the following statement, and under what condition Φ it is true.StatementSuppose that G is a non-locally compact GO-space which is rectifiable, and that Y=bG∖G has (locally) a property-Φ. Then G and bG are separable and metrizable.Moreover, we also consider some related matters about the remainders of the Hausdorff compactifications of rectifiable spaces.

Abstract:A question of F. Kwakkel and V. Markovic on existence of C^1-diffeomorphisms of closed surfaces that permute a dense collection of domains with bounded geometry is answered in the negative. In fact, it is proved that for closed surfaces of genus at least one such diffeomorphisms do not exist regardless of whether they have positive or zero topological entropy.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the compactifications of some topological spaces such that their remainders have countable tightness. We also study addition theorems for compacta. The main results are: (1) If bX is a compactification of a first-countable space X with a Gδ-diagonal (or a space X with a point-countable base) and bX∖X has countable tightness, then both bX and bX∖X have countable fan-tightness; (2) If a non-locally compact paratopological group G has a compactification bG such that the remainder bG∖G is the union of a finite family of metrizable subspaces, then G is locally separable and locally metrizable; (3) If a compact Hausdorff space Z=X∪Y, where X is a non-locally compact topological group which is a σ-space and dense in Z, and Y is a semitopological group, then Z is separable and metrizable; (4) If a compact Hausdorff space Z=X∪Y, where X is a non-locally compact paratopological group that has a countable network and is dense in Z, and Y is a semitopological group, then Z is separable and metrizable. Among them (2) and (3) improve the corresponding results given by A.V. Arhangel'skii in [7].

Abstract:To study when a paratopological group becomes a topological group, A. V. Arhangel'skii et al. introduced the class of (;G)-unfavorable spaces. In this paper we show that every -complete (resp. normal) (;G)-unfavorable semitopological group is a topological group. It is proved that the product of a (;G)-unfavorable space and a strongly Frechet (;G)-favorable space is (;G)-unfavorable. We also show that continuous closed irreducible mappings preserve the (;G)-unfavorableness in both directions. Some of other properties of (;G)-unfavorable spaces are studied.

Abstract:We mainly discuss the cardinal invariants and generalized metric properties on paratopological groups or rectifiable spaces, and show that: (1) If $A$ and $B$ are $\omega$-narrow subsets of a paratopological group $G$, then $AB$ is $\omega$-narrow in $G$, which give an affirmative answer for \cite[Open problem 5.1.9]{A2008}; (2) Every bisequential or weakly first-countable rectifiable space is metrizable; (3) The properties of Fr$\acute{e}$chet-Urysohn and strongly Fr$\acute{e}$chet-Urysohn are coincide in rectifiable spaces; (4) Every rectifiable space $G$ contains a (closed) copy of $S_{\omega}$ if and only if $G$ has a (closed) copy of $S_{2}$; (5) If a rectifiable space $G$ has a $\sigma$-point-discrete closed $k$-network, then $G$ contains no closed copy of $S_{\omega_{1}}$; (6) If a rectifiable space $G$ is pointwise canonically weakly pseudocompact, then $G$ is a Moscow space. Also, we consider the remainders of paratopological groups or rectifiable spaces, and give a partial answer to questions posed by C. Liu in \cite{Liu2009} and C. Liu, S. Lin in \cite{Liu20091}, respectively.

Topological Vector Spaces: a non-standard approach with monads and galaxies

Abstract:A new and extensive formalism is developed for monads and galaxies in non-standard enlargements. It is shown that monads and galaxies can be manipulated using order-preserving and order-reversing set-to-set maps, and that set properties associated with these maps can be extended not only to internal sets but to all monads and galaxies. An abstract theory of Intersections of Galaxies is introduced. These concepts are applied to basic topology as well (locally convex) topological vector spaces, their various properties and completions, allowing these to be effortlessly defined and characterized. Duality theory is studied in this framework, allowing in particular to formulate new brief and insightful proofs for the theorems of Mackey-Arens and Grothendieck completeness without any technicalities.

Abstract:In this article, we are interested in metric spaces that satisfy a weak non-positive curvature condition in the sense that they admit a conical geodesic bicombing. We show that the analog of a question of Gromov about compactness properties of convex hulls has a negative answer in this setting. Specifically, we prove that there exists a complete metric space $X$ that admits a conical bicombing $\sigma$ such that $X$ has a finite subset whose closed $\sigma$-convex hull is not compact.
