Abstract:Data reconciliation problem based on rigorous model of a complex process system is a large scale nonlinear programming(NLP) problem with large degrees of freedom.NLP solvers could be inefficient to solve this kind of problems and sometimes hard to converge.In view of that the data reconciliation problem should be solved repeatedly based on the same model when the feed condition changes,a mnemonic enhancement based method was proposed to solve the problem efficiently.The proposed method uses the experience of pervious solutions to improve convergence.The frame of this method was designed and the procedure of implementation was presented.The application of this method to simulate the multi-column system and ethylene separation process system demonstrates the effectiveness of this method.

Abstract:Big data applications have made significant impacts in recent years thanks to the fast growth of cloud computing and big data infrastructures. However, public cloud is still not widely accepted to perform big data computing, due to the concern with the public cloud's security. Result integrity is one of the most significant security problems that exists in the cloud-based big data computing scenario. In this paper, we propose MtMR, a Merkle tree-based verification method that assures high result integrity of MapReduce jobs. MtMR overlays MapReduce on a hybrid cloud environment and applies two rounds of Merkle tree-based verifications on the pre-reduce phase (i.e., the map phase and the shuffle phase) and the reduce phase, respectively. In each round, MtMR samples a small portion of reduce task input/output records on the private cloud and performs Merkle tree-based verification on all the task input/output records. Based on the design of MtMR, we perform a series of theoretical studies to analyze its security and performance overhead. Our results indicate that MtMR is a promising method in terms of high result integrity and low performance overhead. For example, by setting the sampled record ratio as an optimal value, MtMR can guarantee no more than 10 incorrect records in each reduce task by sampling only 4 percent of records in that task.

Abstract:Value set analysis is a common static binary program analysis approach. Value set analysis attempts to identify a tight over-approximation of the program state at any given point in the program and can be used to detect vulnerability. Existing memory corruption detection analysis technologies based on value set analysis have a high false positive rate, because value set analysis suffers from a lack of accuracy. We observed that two main sources of imprecision in value set analysis are merge operation and failed branch conditions tracking. In order to address above problems, in this paper, we propose a value set analysis refinement approach based on conditional merging and lazy constraint solving. We propose a variable dependence analysis algorithm to divide program paths into subsets and only merge the states which satisfy the condition that the states are from the same subset, which reduces the imprecision from the merging operation. We collect path predicates as path constraint and solve the path constraint using Satisfiability Modulo Theories (SMT) solver lazily to get a tighter number range of the variable when a variable need be refined, which reduces the imprecision from the failed branch conditions tracking. We implement a prototype system RVSA based on the proposed approach and verify its effectiveness according to experimentation. Compared with state-of-the-art approach, the experimental results demonstrate that the false positive rate is reduced by 12.9%. Furthermore, using our proposed approach, 25 zero-day vulnerabilities are found in the Netgear httpd binary.

Abstract:We proposed a novel Boolean Satisfiability (SAT)-controlled redundancy addition and removal (RAR) algorithm to resolve the performance and quality problems of the previous RAR approaches. With the introduction of modern SAT techniques, such as efficient Boolean constraint propagation (BCP), conflict-driven learning, and flexible decision procedure, our RAR engine can identify 10x more alternative wires/gates while achieving 70% reduction in runtime.

Abstract:In this paper for the random assignment problem, we propose the concept of risk critical value of random variable on the basis of the analysis on the mechanism of random decision, and establish risk critical value models based on individual efficiency and objective benefit. Further, for the characteristic of each model, we present the concrete implementation strategy and method for random assignment problem based on objective benefit and genetic algorithm (denoted by GA-RAP, for short), by combining numerical method of calculating probability and evolutionary computation theory; and we prove that GA-RAP under forced preserving strategy is globally convergent by using Markov chain theory. Finally, by combining with a concrete example, We point out the limitation and deficiency of the risk critical value model based on individual efficiency, and analyze the performance of GA-RAP. All the results indicate, GA-RAP not only has better operability and convergence, but has higher computation efficiency and practicability.

Abstract:An important goal of software testing is to achieve at least high structural coverage. To reduce the manual efforts of producing such high-covering test inputs, testers or developers can employ tools built based on automated structural test-generation approaches. Although these tools can easily achieve high structural coverage for simple programs, when they are applied on complex programs in practice, these tools face various problems, such as (1) the external-method-call problem (EMCP), where tools cannot deal with method calls to external libraries; (2) the object-creation problem (OCP), where tools fails to generate method-call sequences to produce desirable object states. Since these tools currently could not be powerful enough to deal with these problems in testing complex programs in practice, we propose cooperative developer testing, where developers provide guidance to help tools achieve higher structural coverage. To reduce the efforts of developers in providing guidance to tools, in this paper, we propose a novel approach, called Covana, which precisely identifies and reports problems that prevent the tools from achieving high structural coverage primarily by determining whether branch statements containing not-covered branches have data dependencies on problem candidates. We provide two techniques to instantiate Covana to identify EMCPs and OCPs. Finally, we conduct evaluations on two open source projects to show the effectiveness of Covana in identifying EMCPs and OCPs.

Abstract:Redundant invariants increase processing time and memory consumption, which make serious effect on the application of invariants. The elimination of invariant redundancy is an important part in the invariant study. Now most methods of invariant redundancy elimination are based on optimization of invariants detecting tool which lack the principles analyse and system solutions of redundant invariants themselves. This paper first analyses the theory about classification and forming reasons of redundant invariant and then discusses the judgement of three kinds of invariant redundancy: equivalent redundancy, transitivity redundancy and implicating redundancy. Finally, the paper proposes the algorithms of eliminating invariant redundancy. The study has great value to the application of invariants which can significantly improves the efficiency by saving the time and space in processing.

In the paper, we first show many data cleaning steps process on the values of the same data attributes and their derivations, and users may ignore or be puzzled by the data transforms that are defined to clean and transform the data sets, and such process can also be prone to error during process optimization. In this paper, we first define two major such problems as assignment conflict and range conflict,and giving problem definitions for such conflicts. Abstract:In modern life, software plays an increasingly important role and ensuring the reliability of software is of particular importance. In space, a Single Event Upset occurs because of the strong radiation effects of cosmic rays, which can lead to errors in software. In order to guarantee the reliability of software, many software-based fault tolerance methods have been proposed. The majority of them are based on data redundancy, which duplicates all data to prevent data corruption during the software execution. But this fault tolerant approach will make the data redundant and increase memory overhead and time overhead. Duplicating critical variables only can significantly reduce the memory and performance overheads, while still guaranteeing very high reliable results in terms of fault-tolerance improvement. In this paper, we propose an analysis model, named CDM (Critical Data Model), which can compute the critical of variables in the programs and achieve the purpose of reducing redundancy for the reliable program. According to the experimental results, the model proposed in this paper can enhance the reliability of the software, reduce the time and memory cost, and improve the efficiency of the reliable program.
Automatic Discovery and Cleansing of Numerical Metamorphic Relations

Abstract:Metamorphic relations (MRs) describe the invariant relationships between program inputs and outputs. By checking for violations of MRs, faults in programs can be detected. Identifying MRs manually is a tedious and error-prone task. In this paper, we propose AutoMR, a novel method for systematically inferring and cleansing MRs. AutoMR can discover various types of equality and inequality MRs through a search method (particle swarm optimization). It also employs matrix singular-value decomposition and constraint solving techniques to remove the redundant MRs in the search results. Our experiments on 37 numerical programs from two popular open source packages show that AutoMR can effectively infer a set of accurate and succinct MRs and outperform the state-of-the-art method. Furthermore, we show that the discovered MRs have high fault detection ability in mutation testing and differential testing.

Abstract:There are some disadvantages when detecting syntax similar clone code with clone code detection method based on token method.To solve these problems,this paper proposes a method to eliminate part false detection of clone code detection with statement hash value and identifier conflict ratio.At first,statement hash value is compared to determine the statement structure similarity.Then the identifier conflict ratio is computed to decide the direction of false detection elimination and results.Finally,the statement relative line number is modified to eliminate false detection.The experimental results show that the proposed method can eliminate clone code false detection caused by inserting the same structure statement and the reverse order statements of same structure.It improves the accuracy of clone code detection and clone code related defects,as well as can benefit the study of clone code refactoring.

Abstract:Computer systems operating in space environment are subject to different radiation phenomena, whose effects may lead to a control flow fault occurring in software system, which can cause unpredictable behaviors of computer-based systems. According to the specialty of space environment, We propose a technique called RSCFC (Relationship Signatures for Control Flow Checking) which is based on the partition of programs into basic blocks. Firstly, it exploits the relationship among the blocks, then assigns a signature, into which the relationship is coded, to each basic block. Control flow faults are detected through taking AND operation between the run-time signature and the location info of the current block with extra instructions induced at the beginning and the end of each block. A fault injection experiment was performed with several C benchmark programs. The result suggests that about 33% (20.7–68.8%) of the injected branching faults produced undetected incorrect outputs without RSCFC; however, with RSCFC, the above number declines to 11% (2.8–20.4%). Compared with previous techniques, RSCFC has the characteristics of both high fault coverage and low memory and performance overhead.

Abstract:Application Programming Interface (API) documents represent one of the most important references for API users. However, it is frequently reported that the documentation is inconsistent with the source code and deviates from the API itself. Such inconsistencies in the documents inevitably confuse the API users hampering considerably their API comprehension and the quality of software built from such APIs. In this paper, we propose an automated approach to detect defects of API documents by leveraging techniques from program comprehension and natural language processing. Particularly, we focus on the directives of the API documents which are related to parameter constraints and exception throwing declarations. A first-order logic based constraint solver is employed to detect such defects based on the obtained analysis results. We evaluate our approach on parts of well documented JDK 1.8 APIs. Experiment results show that, out of around 2000 API usage constraints, our approach can detect 1158 defective document directives, with a precision rate of 81.6%, and a recall rate of 82.0%, which demonstrates its practical feasibility.
