Abstract:A virtual factory integrated manufacturing system combined with system simulation and virtual reality is introduced in this paper. We describe the system architecture and development methodology, provide the working principle of process simulation and monitoring in virtual factory, and then explain the detailed applications of virtual factory integrated manufacturing system. With the visualization and three-dimensional human-computer interaction about process and production data, this platform can provide effective supports on monitoring, control and operation of manufacturing system.

Abstract:A kind of virtual plant laboratory system for process systems engineering education and research is developed, which is deemed an effective and applicable tool. The proposed system consists of pilot tanks, package simulation software of unit operation and a real enterprise information system including DCS, management database and MES (manufacturing execution system). Particularly, positive effects of customizing the virtual education systems to satisfy the needs of specific engineering education and research domain such as modeling, optimization and control of industrial plant, and development and implementation of enterprise information systems are highlighted.

Abstract:Virtual reality is now becoming matured for serious engineering applications. This paper describes an integrated multi-modal virtual design and virtual assembly environment within which the designers are enabled to create both the exact solid model of a part and the assembly model of a product in 3D space by direct 3D manipulations and voice commands intuitively and easily. Assembly planning can also be performed by users interactively in the environment. By integrating virtual assembly with virtual design, designers are allowed to modify components of an assembly in the same virtual environment without the need of time-consuming data exchange between virtual environment and CAD tools.

Abstract:With the combination between system simulation and virtual reality, we have established an integrated virtual refinery simulation platform, and analyzed the overall design and principal architecture. This paper introduces a simulation algorithm about a refinery based on virtual reality, and explains how the algorithm can be applied to the virtual refinery integrated simulation platform in detail. The virtual refinery simulation platform, which consists of a three-dimensional scene system, an integrated database system and a dynamic-static simulation system, has many applications, such as dynamic-static simulation of key process unit used as process control and oil tank blending simulation for scheduling. With the visualization and human-computer interaction for acquiring production and process data, this platform can provide effective supports on staff training related with monitoring, control and operation in refinery. Virtual refinery can also be web published through the internet and it is helpful for the distance training and education.

Abstract:We propose a task planner that incorporates with a virtual reality interface for 3D immersive interaction of CAD models and high-level task planning of mating processes. The planner is constructed with the following objectives: 3D immersive VR interface, assembly analysis, feature/constraint update, and assembly path planning. A virtual-assembly system has been developed based on the modeling features and mating constraints proposed in our approach. Our system supports a VR interface for performing task-oriented virtual assembly, constraint analysis, feature/constraint update during assembling, and collision-free assembly planning. An assembly task is described by the relationship of parts or subassemblies, translation of constraints and operation restrictions. Our task planner provides a virtual reality interface which allows users to freely navigate in the assembly environment, select one of the parts, and move it around in all directions. To accomplish the goal of a two-part assembly, the free motion of a 3D input device (e.g. 3D mouse) is restricted by both a collision-free path and allowable motion derived from mating constraints between the parts. The allowable motion with reduced degrees of freedom guides the user assembling the parts in a constrained direction or around a specified rotating axis. Any illegal motion that will possibly cause a collision or disabled movement is not allowed, which prompts a warning sound or error messages to alert the user. When two components are assembled, the two graphs are updated in such a way by joining the common attributes, removing those overlapped or duplicated ones after mating, and creating the new attributes or features that are produced. So a new attribute graph is generated for the new object.

Abstract:Nowadays, the virtual reality (VR) technology has been widely used in machinery to verify the working process and performance of equipment prototype in early design stage. To gain insight into the coupling of process verifying the timing and rhythm of equipment working and performance indicating the quality of equipment, a VR framework is proposed in this paper to integrate the modeling and simulation of working process with the visualization of multisource analysis data from various computer-aided engineering (CAE) software. The framework is equipped with an extended discrete event system specification (DEVS) method, named scripted DEVS, which divides the process modeling into two stages, namely, behavior modeling and data customization, and frees the mechanical designer from programming. Based on the method, a uniform procedure of data integration is designed to hide the specific structure and visualization implementation of diverse data from the modeler by a script format called PDTree (Process&Data Tree) and a series of visualization interfaces in model-view-controller (MVC) pattern. Three applications of different working processes are also presented finally to verify the flexibility and compatibility of the framework.

The virtual factory is an enterprise-wide reference model for process industry which can simulate the production and the enterprise operation in many situations. Lots of dynamic mathematic models, static mathematic models and control algorithms were put into the environment, and the simulation system for the pulp & paper mill can thus be established. Abstract:Virtual assembly simulation system plays a vital role in the intelligent manufacturing, especially in the field of complex machine or product manufacturing. The designing defects or product drawbacks could be identified in the designing period using the virtual assembly system. In this paper, the virtual simulation model of three-axis CNC machine was developed using virtual simulation software, interactive virtual assembly function was realized based on menu button, people can make assembly for the machine in the system, through the menu button, the interactive assembly could come true. Then using coarse-to-fine collision detection method and the face-level precision inspection to obtain assembly constraints, using a bounding box method for rough detection. The specific detection process was discussed in detail. The interactive virtual assembly simulation system was established and verified at last, it has great meaning for complex product machining.

Abstract:The virtual environment for the automobile press shop was established, and a scheduling and control system was developed based on it. This system is constructed by two layers, one is single line scheduling, which computes the lot-sizing and circle time by Linear Programming according to demand and the lower limit of inventory; the other is global and reactive scheduling, which determines the order of the lot-sizing by gantt chart, and checks the constraints by simulation. At last, an application example demonstrates the effectiveness and efficiency of this system.

Abstract:Through the computer models and simulation technology, the imitation of manufacturing and information processes is realized within the VM system. It's already widely used in the dispersed system. On the basis of the concept of process control the DCS and VM, an environment of industrial control computer system including modelcreating、control、optimization and simulation was setup. Lots of dynamic mathematic models、static mathematic models and control algorithms were put into the environment, and the simulation system for pulp paper mill was established. The results obtained both from system simulation and practical computer control were satisfactory.

Abstract:In an era where countries worldwide are emphasizing the process of educational informatization, traditional experimental teaching methods encounter inherent limitations, such as constraints related to the availability of experimental sites and the amount of experimental equipment. Consequently, it becomes a challenge to provide students with an unconstrained, open, and collaborative experimental environment. The digital twin, as a pivotal technology for achieving interactive mapping of the physical world and the information world, possesses attributes characterized by real time interactivity and the seamless fusion of virtual and tangible elements. As a result, various virtual simulation experimental teaching platforms grounded in digital twin technology are now extensively integrated into talent development initiatives. In the context of the “Production Planning and Control” course at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), the virtual simulation experimental teaching method is examined, leading to the creation of a virtual simulation instructional platform that blends the virtual and tangible realms, thanks to the foundation of digital twin technology. The virtual simulation experimental teaching platform detailed in this paper, specifically designed for optimizing scheduling within assembly line workshops, represents a pioneering model practice in the integration of digital twin technology into workshop-based experimental instruction and assumes an influential role in enhancing students’ grasp of theoretical knowledge and their capacity for practical innovation.

Abstract:Virtual prototyping is an effective tool in the development of mechanical product. Physically accurate simulation of multi-body mechanical system enables designers to investigate, explore, and experience the performance and behavior of an evolving product and thus reduce the number of physical prototypes needed. For the sake of better support for designers to manipulate the simulation, we have developed a dynamic simulation package of mechanical system, which provides an interactive control during the simulation process. The package incorporates physical behaviors and dynamic interactions by dynamics based modeling approach in multi-body mechanical system. In the package, user’s actions (e.g., loading a model, picking and dragging objects, steering objects during simulation process, etc.) are based on an ATN task management, and a multi-modal interface is provided which supports 2D desktop devices and 3D VR devices. The main contribution of the simulator is providing supports that allow users’ interactive manipulation in the simulation loop. During the simulation process, users can modify the constraints between components, apply force/torque to interested components and change the parameters of forces/torques. The simulator automatically updates the dynamic model of the mechanical system in real time, and then continuously simulates the behavior of the model under the current condition in the loop. An example of dynamic simulation of a vehicle is implemented and the simulation result is compared to that of ADAMS to verify the correctness and accuracy of the simulator. With the real-time interaction, solution and visualization of simulation model, the package affords better support for designers to participate in the simulation interactively and effectively.

The workstation includes an industrial robot, gas control unit, track function module, assembly function module, palletizing function module, vision module, etc., and robot movement is achieved through language programming. The platform provides conditions for the practical ability training of application-oriented talents.

Abstract:The characteristics of the pressing production of car body were analyzed, and the key techniques of constructing VMS for the press production line of car body were presented and researched. Such a VMS is constituted by the entity model, the logical model and the simulation control platform. Plug-in models can be added to expand the function of the system. At last, the functions of such a system were introduced, and an example of dynamic scheduling was given, which showed that this system can preview the production accurately and gain an appropriate schedule scheme.

Abstract:Virtual prototyping (VP) technology has been regarded as a cost-effective way of envisaging real circumstances that enhance effective communication of designs and ideas, without manufacturing physical samples. In the construction field, although a large number of digital technologies have been developed to visualize the innovative architectural design, few VP systems have been developed to facilitate integrated planning and visualization of construction plans of the building projects. This paper describes a virtual prototyping system, called the Construction Virtual Prototyping (CVP) system, which is developed for modeling, simulation, analysis and VP of construction processes from digital design. The CVP system allows project teams to check constructability, safety and to visualize 3D models of a facility before the commencement of construction works. The real-life case study presented in the study shows that the CVP system is effective in assessing the executability of a construction planning including site layout, temporary work design, as well as resource planning.

Abstract:Abstract Application of virtual simulation technology to manufacturing industry today can shorten the development cycle, reduce costs and improve the design accuracy. This paper takes the spot welding workstation of auto body structure as the research object. Firstly, the production demand of spot welding of auto body structure is analyzed, the structure and production characteristics of spot welding robot workstation are analyzed, and the appropriate equipment is selected for the layout of spot welding robot workstation. Secondly, the work path of the robot is planned reasonably, and the planning of the robot trajectory can facilitate the writing of program instructions later. In the design process, three-dimensional modelling software is used to model some components in the workstation. Finally, through the use of simulation software, the welding path optimization and off-line programming of the whole spot welding robot workstation are simulated. The results show that the designed robot workstation can meet the use requirements.

Abstract:In order to solve the problems of unintuitive expression, incomplete information and inadequate risk identification when using tables and flow charts to plan the core module of China Space Station (CSS) assembly process, digital simulation technology is applied. firstly, a simulation environment is established, which includes personnel, process equipment, workshop environment, 3D layout model of the core module. Based on the environment, digital simulation-based assembly process optimization is promoted as following: a. Complete processes of typical assembly and test operations are validated and optimized in virtual reality; b. Interfaces matching between assembly equipment and workshop environment are verified; c. Issues related to worker operation are validated and optimized, including visibility, reachability, operability, and comfort. The simulation application is beneficial to identify operation risk, and helpful to optimize assembly method and scheme.
