Study on the Coupling of Pervaporation Dehydration and Esterification of Adipic Acid and Methanol

Abstract:The enhancement of the esterification of adipic acid with methanol was achieved by coupling distillation or pervaporation with PVA/PAN composite membrane to remove water from the reaction system.When molar ratio of adipic acid to methanol is 1∶2,the conversion ratio of the coupled process can be raised to above 98% from the equilibrium conversion ratio of 68%.The amount of methanol that is evaporated from the reaction system along with the removal of water in PV process is 7% of that in distillation process,so the energy consumption to evaporate and purify the methanol in PV process is much less than that in distillation process.
