Abstract:For ultrasonic nondestructive testing of surface part, the importance, characteristics and key technologies of reverse engineering were analyzed and researched. Then, an integrative scheme of ultrasonic measure, surface construction, ultrasonic nondestructive testing was proposed and used to realize fast nondestructive testing of surf ace part. This method was proved to be good in practice.

Abstract:We demonstrate the nondestructive evaluation by means of directional ultrasound emitted from a planar metasurface. The ultrasound metasurface is designed to generate the collimated and directional ultrasound efficiently in a planar configuration, which is endowed with the full-2 pi-range phase manipulation ability and high transmittance up to 80%. We employ the directional emission based on the ultrasound metasurface to innovate the traditional nondestructive evaluation methods, benefited from the freely controlled directivity and the superior fitness to sample surface of the planar metasurface. Merits of this innovative application are evidenced by the remarkable accuracy (higher than 98%) in the thickness evaluation, and precise detection (accuracy higher than 96%) of the special defect inside the V-shaped workpiece which is intractable to be inspected conventionally. The implementation of the metasurface-based directional ultrasound emission in the nondestructive evaluation bears the advantages of high coupling efficiency, superior fitness, high accuracy, and applicability to special defect, providing new solutions to the challenges in conventional defect detection and promotes the development in the nondestructive evaluation applications.

Abstract:˖Ultrasonic guided wave technology shows a good prospect in the long distance and large-scale structure of the non-destructive testing and health monitoring, thanks to its advantages such as single-ended excitation, long propagation distance, 100% detection of cross section.Constrained by theory and instrumentation technology, ultrasonic guided wave is basically only used for defect screening, ultrasonic guided wave quantitative detection technology has not been widely studied and applied.Aiming at the quantitative analysis of defect size problem in guided wave inspection, it proposes a method based on matching pursuit for quantifying the severity of pipeline defect along axial direction.By analyzing the characteristics of the echo signal, the optimized dictionary is constructed to efficiently decompose the edge reflection components from defect reflection signal.The axial extent of defect can be then quantitatively evaluated by using obtained information.Algorithm validation experiments of finite element numerical simulation as well as detecting the artificial defects in the aluminum pipe by using MSGW magnetostrictive guided wave detector show that the algorithm of error is less than 5%.

Abstract:Aiming at the test of void content of carbon-fiber reinforced composite used in aeronautic industry, developed a portable ultrasonic non-destructive test system. The test theory model and hardware structure are introduced. The system can output test result by C-Scan image and column chart, finally provide test report. The precision of void content results come to 99.3%. The system can test the void content of carbon-fiber reinforced composite quickly and expediently on the spot.

Abstract:In the point of application to ultrasonic nondestructive testing of surface stress and defect in polymer component, the oblique suxface wave transducer is investigated on its acoustic property and especially the mechanism of acoustic attenuation of acoustic entrant material inside the transducer. A new kind of room temperature vulcanized silicone elastomer as wedge material, in which ultrasound can propagate in very low speed with weak attenuation, is developed through a great deal of trials. The corresponding ultrasonic transducer is also designed for further researches and application to detect surface stress and surface crack in aerospace transparent component.

Abstract:Parts of complex surface are widely used now in many fields, and their detection has caused much concern. In China many manufactories still carry on the traditional way of manual detection, which requires highly skilled personnel and efficiency is low. Some large manufactories have imported auto-detecting equipments, which require CAD data on the parts, or just divide the surface into several approximate planes for automatic detection. Phased-array system is seldom used, and the cost is high. Besides, most of the systems have not considered the automatic sensitivity compensation of parts with varying thickness. To improve the detection quality and efficiency of nondestructive test (NDT) of parts of complex surface, this paper puts forward an integrated ultrasonic NDT system characterized by: (1) Use of ultrasonic measurement and reverse of curved surface to solve the CAD data problem; (2) Use of an automatic sensitivity compensation algorithm (based on the part’s modelling information obtained in surface reverse) to fit the variety of the thickness; (3) Use of template matching and pseudo-color imaging to improve the quality of detection results. The system features integration of low cost mature technologies, and is suitable for detection of various parts of different complex surfaces in medium-and-small enterprises. The test results showed that the system can automatically detect parts of complex surface successfully, and that the inspection result is good and reliable.

Abstract:This paper presents research on the application of ultrasonic-guided wave technology in corrosion defect identification, expounds the relevant ultrasonic-guided wave theories and the principle of ultrasonic-guided wave non-destructive testing of pipelines, and discusses the Lamb wave and shear horizontal wave mode selection that is commonly used in ultrasonic-guided wave corrosion detection. Furthermore, research progress in the field of ultrasonic-guided wave non-destructive testing (NDT) technology, i.e., regarding transducers, structural health monitoring, convolutional neural networks, machine learning, and other fields, is reviewed. Finally, the future prospects of ultrasonic-guided wave NDT technology are discussed.

Abstract:Many concrete structures in use have safety problems due to material deterioration, actual construction defects, structural damage, etc. Therefore, nondestructive testing is required to determine the presence of defects. Ultrasonic technology is an important tool in nondestructive testing, which can detect defects in concrete and be combined with other methods or models to make it more accurate. At present, ultrasonic inspection technology has been more research at home and abroad, both in theory and in engineering, and there has been great progress. This paper summarizes the latest progress of ultrasonic inspection technology for concrete structures at home and abroad respectively, and points out the future development trend.

Abstract:Ultrasound is considered as an effective nondestructive testing method. This review paper discusses the potential of ultrasonic techniques for defect detection and fractures in construction and building materials, which explains the basic principles of ultrasonic approaches and their widespread application in non-destructive testing (NDT). The paper also summarizes the benefits of ultrasonic computerized tomography (UCT), highlighting its high resolution, stability, and low radiation compared to other techniques. Additionally, it introduces an enhanced usage of UCT that involves the flexible arrangement of transmitting and receiving probes in ultrasonic apparatus to improve the accuracy of UCT signals.

Abstract:An electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) can produce and receive ultrasonic waves though electromagnetic coupling. The EMAT is characteristic of non-contact and being needing no coupling medium, so it is specially concerned by researchers on nondestructive testing and evaluation. The physical principle of EMAT was presented, and the research status of mathematics modeling, equipment design and engineering applications of EMAT were introduced.

Abstract:The construction of bridge projects can promote economic exchanges between different regions and provide convenient transportation for people. The application of non-destructive testing technology has effectively improved the overall quality of bridge inspection work, providing a reliable guarantee for the development of the transportation industry. This paper elaborates on the specific principles, characteristics, and research status of ultrasonic testing technology, three-dimensional laser scanning technology, and radiographic testing technology in practical operations, and comprehensively compares the advantages and disadvantages of the three non-destructive testing technologies in bridge engineering. Ultrasonic testing technology has simple operation and low cost, but the detection results are not intuitive enough; three-dimensional laser scanning technology has high accuracy and good digital compatibility, but its cost is relatively high; Radiographic testing technology has a wide range of applications, and the detection results are relatively intuitive, but the detection efficiency is low. Finally, it is discussed that the current difficulties in using non-destructive testing technology in bridge engineering lie in high costs and inadequate integration. It is proposed to incorporate non-destructive testing technology into bridge design planning to form a more complete system.

Abstract:There are some limitations when conventional ultrasonic testing methods are used for testing early damage in metal parts. With the continuous development of acoustics and materials science, nonlinear ultrasonic nondestructive testing technology has been used for testing of early damage in metal materials. In order to better understand the basic theory and research progress of the nonlinear ultrasonic testing technology, the classical nonlinear ultrasonic theoretical models, including the dislocation monopole model, dislocation dipole model, precipitate-dislocation pinning model, and contact nonlinear ultrasonic theory-microcrack model, are analyzed in depth. This paper introduces the application and research progress of nonlinear ultrasonic detection technology, which is derived from different acoustic nonlinear effects, such as higher harmonic, wave mixing and modulation, sub-harmonic, resonance frequency spectrum analysis, and non-linear ultrasonic phased array imaging. The key technologies and problems are summarized to provide a reference for the further development and promotion of nonlinear ultrasonic non-destructive testing technology.

Abstract:With the continuous development of science and technology, metal castings are widely used in aerospace, oil exploitation and other fields, and the safety and availability of casting quality has become a hot issue in current research. Ultrasonic nondestructive testing has good penetration and directivity, but nonstationary ultrasonic signals will be formed in the process of flaw detection, which has a certain impact on the extraction of effective information. Therefore, by processing and analyzing ultrasonic signals, this paper uses wavelet transform and empirical mode decomposition to make a comparative study. It is found that the wavelet transform denoising algorithm still has distortion after processing the noisy signal. Empirical mode decomposition is based on the signal itself, which has strong adaptability and better performance. Moreover, the improved threshold function has higher accuracy in signal processing, and the distortion degree of waveform is reduced, which is more suitable for noise reduction of metal echo signal, and can meet the requirements of engineering applications.

Abstract:Effective testing of defects in various materials is an important guarantee to ensure its safety performance. Compared with traditional non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, infrared thermography is a new NDT technique which has developed rapidly in recent years. Its core technologies include thermal excitation and infrared image processing. In this paper, several main infrared thermography nondestructive testing techniques are reviewed. Through the analysis and comparison of the detection principle, technical characteristics and data processing methods of these testing methods, the development of the infrared thermography nondestructive testing technique is presented. Moreover, the application and development trend are summarized.

Abstract:During the last decade nonlinear Ultrasonics has advanced from being a laboratory curiosity, of little practical application, to a point where it is a viable technique for many manufacturing inspections. In this article, an ultrasonic measuring system designed specifically to make possible the study of nonlinear properties for the nondestructive evaluation of materials, and a power spectrum method used for measuring the nonlinear parameter beta are illustrated. Some special capabilities not available in other commercial or laboratory instruments, such as high power RF tone burst excitatior for driving inefficient transducers, the high precision Super heterodyne Receiver for harmonics detection, and the easy parameter controls, are available in our equipment. Some factors impacting the performance of the measurement system are analyzed, and the linearity of the measurement system is verified Some experiments are designed to evaluate the measurement validity of the system.
