Abstract:A rational matrix is a matrix-valued function $R(\lambda): \mathbb{C} \rightarrow M_p$ such that $R(\lambda) = \begin{bmatrix} r_{ij}(\lambda) \end{bmatrix}_{p\times p}$, where $r_{ij}(\lambda)$ are scalar complex rational functions in $\lambda$ for $i,j=1,2,\ldots,p$. The aim of this paper is to obtain bounds on the moduli of eigenvalues of rational matrices in terms of the moduli of their poles. To a given rational matrix $R(\lambda)$ we associate a block matrix $\mathcal{C}_R$ whose blocks consist of the coefficient matrices of $R(\lambda)$, as well as a scalar real rational function $q(x)$ whose coefficients consist of the norm of the coefficient matrices of $R(\lambda)$. We prove that a zero of $q(x)$ which is greater than the moduli of all the poles of $R(\lambda)$ will be an upper bound on the moduli of eigenvalues of $R(\lambda)$. Moreover, by using a block matrix associated with $q(x)$, we establish bounds on the zeros of $q(x)$, which in turn yields bounds on the moduli of eigenvalues of $R(\lambda)$.

Abstract:We present a new method, using asymptotic analysis, to obtain a system of recursion relations for integrals on moduli spaces of curves. By applying the asymptotic analysis on the join-cut relation of the ELSV formula, we derive the recursion relation of R. Dijkgraaf and E. and H. Verlinde, which is exactly the Virasoro constraints for topological gravity. This gives an alternative proof of Wittens Conjecture using asymptotic analysis.

Abstract:Asymptotically sharp Bernstein- and Markov-type inequalities are established for rational functions on C^2 smooth Jordan curves and arcs. The results are formulated in terms of the normal derivatives of certain Green's functions with poles at the poles of the rational functions in question. As a special case (when all the poles are at infinity) the corresponding results for polynomials are recaptured.

Abstract:The paper considers the equality cases in the rnajoration principle for meromorphic functions established earlier by V. N. Dubinin and S. I. Kalmykov [Mat. Sb., 198, No. 12, 37–46 (2007)]. As corollaries of this principle, new inequalities for the coefficients and derivatives of polynomials satisfying certain conditions on two intervals are obtained. Simple proofs of some Lukashov’s theorems on the derivatives of rational functions on several intervals are provided. Bibliography: 13 titles.

Abstract:We derive bounds on the moduli of eigenvalues of certain special type of rational matrices, using the following techniques/methods: (1) an upper bound is obtained using the Bauer-Fike theorem on an associated block matrix of the given rational matrix, (2) a lower bound is obtained by associating a real rational function, along with Rouch$\text{é}$'s theorem for the rational matrix and (3) an upper bound is also obtained using a numerical radius inequality for a block matrix for the rational matrix. These bounds are compared when the coefficients are unitary matrices. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the results obtained.

Abstract:In this paper we prove an asymptotically sharp Bernstein-type inequality for polynomials on analytic Jordan arcs. Also a general statement on mapping of a domain bounded by finitely many Jordan curves onto a complement to a system of the same number of arcs with rational function is presented here. This fact, as well as, Borwein–Erdélyi inequality for derivative of rational functions on the unit circle, Gonchar–Grigorjan estimate of the norm of holomorphic part of meromorphic functions and Totik's construction of fast decreasing polynomials play key roles in the proof of the main result.

Abstract:Let A be a simple Abelian variety of dimension g over the field $\mathbb {F}_q$. The paper provides improvements on the Weil estimates for the size of $A(\mathbb {F}_q)$. For an arbitrary value of q we prove $(\lfloor (\sqrt{q}-1)^2 \rfloor + 1)^g \le \#A(\mathbb {F}_q) \le (\lceil (\sqrt{q}+1)^2 \rceil - 1)^{g}$ holds with finitely many exceptions. We compute improved bounds for various small values of q. For instance, the Weil bounds for $q=3,4$ give a trivial estimate $\#A(\mathbb {F}_q) \ge 1$; we prove $\# A(\mathbb {F}_3) \ge 1.359^g$ and $\# A(\mathbb {F}_4) \ge 2.275^g$ hold with finitely many exceptions. We use these results to give some estimates for the size of the rational 2-torsion subgroup $A(\mathbb {F}_q)[2]$ for small q. We also describe all abelian varieties over finite fields that have no new points in some finite field extension.

Abstract:In this article, we extend our recent work on a Bombieri-Vinogradov-type theorem for sparse sets of prime powers $p^N\le x^{1/4-\varepsilon}$ with $p\le (\log x)^C$ to sparse sets of moduli $s\le x^{1/3-\varepsilon}$ with radical rad$(s)\le x^{9/40}$. To derive our result, we combine our previous method with a Bombieri-Vinogradov-type theorem for general moduli $s\le x^{9/40}$ obtained by Roger Baker.

On Littlewood's estimate for the modulus of the zeta function on the critical line

Abstract:Inspired by a result of Soundararajan, assuming the Riemann hypothesis (RH), we prove a new inequality for the logarithm of the modulus of the Riemann zeta-function on the critical line in terms of a Dirichlet polynomial over primes and prime powers. Our proof uses the Guinand-Weil explicit formula in conjunction with extremal one-sided bandlimited approximations for the Poisson kernel. As an application, by carefully estimating the Dirichlet polynomial, we revisit a 100-year-old estimate of Littlewood and give a slight refinement of the sharpest known upper bound (due to Chandee and Soundararajan) for the modulus of the zeta function on the critical line assuming RH, by providing explicit lower-order terms.

Abstract:We establish a version of the Pommerenke–Levin–Yoccoz inequality for the modulus of a polynomial-like (PL) restriction of a polynomial and give two applications. First we show that if the modulus of a PL restriction of a polynomial is bounded from below then this restricts the combinatorics of the polynomial. The second application concerns parameter slices of cubic polynomials given by the non-repelling multiplier of a fixed point. Namely, the intersection of the so-called Main Cubioid and the multiplier slice lies in the closure of the principal hyperbolic domain, with possible exception of queer components.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish some finiteness results about the multiplicative dependence of rational values modulo sets which are `close' (with respect to the Weil height) to division groups of finitely generated multiplicative groups of a number field $K$. For example, we show that under some conditions on rational functions $f_1, \ldots, f_n\in K(X)$, there are only finitely many elements $\alpha \in K$ such that $f_1(\alpha),\ldots,f_n(\alpha)$ are multiplicatively dependent modulo such sets.

On the irrationality of moduli spaces of projective hyperkähler manifolds

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to estimate the irrationality of moduli spaces of hyperkähler manifolds of types K3$^{[n]}$, Kum$_{n}$, OG6, and OG10. We prove that the degrees of irrationality of these moduli spaces are bounded from above by a universal polynomial in the dimension and degree of the manifolds they parametrize. We also give a polynomial bound for the degrees of irrationality of moduli spaces of $(1,d)$-polarized abelian surfaces.

Abstract:We prove some two- and three-point distortion theorems for rational functions that generalize some recent results on Bernstein-type inequalities for polynomials and rational functions. The rational functions under study have either majorants or restrictions on location of their zeros. The proofs are based on the new version of the Schwarz Lemma and univalence condition for regular functions which was suggested by Dubinin.

Here we establish asymptotically sharp extensions of their inequalities for rational functions on analytic Jordan arcs and curves. In the proofs key roles are played by Borwein-Erdu0027elyi inequality on the unit circle, Gonchar-Grigorjan type estimate of the norm of holomorphic part of meromorphic functions and Totiku0027s construction of fast decreasing polynomials.

Abstract:We provide an upper bound for the effective irrationality exponents of cubic algebraics x with the minimal polynomial . In particular, we show that it becomes non-trivial, i.e. better than the classical bound of Liouville, in the case . Moreover, under the condition , we provide an explicit lower bound for the expression || qx || for all large . These results are based on the recently discovered continued fractions of cubic irrationals and improve the currently best-known bounds of Wakabayashi.

Abstract: We give an upper bound on the number of rational points of an arbitrary Zariski closed subset of a projective space over a finite field <math alttext="bold upper F Subscript q"> <semantics> <msub> <mrow> <mi mathvariant="bold">F</mi> </mrow> <mi>q</mi> </msub> <annotation>\mathbf {F}_q</annotation> </semantics> </math> . This bound depends only on the dimensions and degrees of the irreducible components and holds for very general projective varieties, even reducible and nonequidimensional. As a consequence, we prove a conjecture of Ghorpade and Lachaud on the maximal number of rational points of an equidimensional projective variety.
