Abstract:This paper presents the effects of silane coupling agent, which includes interfacial adhesive strength, water treatment, polymer composites and coatings that make it valuable for multi-materialization. The methoxy-type silane coupling agent composites-based modification is discussed using different methods exhibiting higher reactivity towards hydrolysis. The characteristics of developed vulcanization, in particular the dimethoxy-type silane-coupling agents than the trimethoxy-type have improved properties such as environment friendly fabrication process, mechanical, physical, swelling and dynamic viscoelastic properties of composites. The modification of aggregated surface along with asphalt binder excel their properties. Specifically, the silane coupling agent (SCA) Glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane (KH-560) utilization realizes the modification purpose. This review focuses on synthetic approaches, surface modification, surface thermodynamic properties, techniques, salinization reaction and recent development in use of silane modifiers in various applications.

Abstract:The fact that coupling agents could exert better effect in oxidized Si3N4 powder system than as-received Si3N4 powder system was demonstrated. The effects of different coupling agents indicated that Silane KH570 was the best agent for the present system. The combination of different coupling agents promises for improving the homogeneity of the mixture. The current study attempts to pave the way for the design of a successful formulation for the injection molding of Si3N4, through the understanding of the role of the coupling agents on the surface modification of ceramic particles and their compatibility with the binders.

Abstract:In this paper, the effects of two kinds of coupling agents, silicane and titanate, on the casting technology and mechanical property of Al2O3-epoxy resin system were studied. The results show that the filler can improve the impact strength of the casting system, after it was treated by silicane coupling agent. Additionally, it is helpful to improve the processing property of the casting system after the filler was added with a little titanate coupling agent. The mechanical performances of the cured resin were affected by the drying temperature of the post-treated filler too

Abstract:In this study, hollow glass microsphere/epoxy composites modified with compound coupling agent of titanate (CS201) and silane (KH540) were prepared and characterized. The addition of the compound coupling agent improves the interfacial bonding between the microbeads and the resin matrix. Scanning electron microscopy results indicated that the compound coupling agent can effectively reduce the number of voids between the microbeads and the resin. FTIR and XPS spectra showed that new chemical bonds were formed between the hollow glass microspheres and resin, which enhanced the interfacial bonding between them. By testing the water absorption and mechanical properties of the composites, it found that the addition of the hybrid coupling agent can reduce the water absorption to a minimum level of 1.184%. Due to the improvement of interfacial compatibility, mechanical properties of the composites were enhanced, (with tensile strength of 43.03 MPa, bending strength of 44.56 MPa, bending modulus of 1407 MPa and compressive strength of 81.55 MPa). When the content of the coupling agent was 5% and the volume ratio of CS201 to KH540 was 1:1, the synergistic enhancement effect was the most significant.

Abstract:Medical devices are becoming more and more significant in our daily life. For implantable medical devices, good biocompatibility is required for further use in vivo. Thus, surface modification of medical devices is really important, which gives a wide application scene for a silane coupling agent. The silane coupling agent is able to form a durable bond between organic and inorganic materials. The dehydration process provides linking sites to achieve condensation of two hydroxyl groups. The forming covalent bond brings excellent mechanical properties among different surfaces. Indeed, the silane coupling agent is a popular component in surface modification. Metals, proteins, and hydrogels are using silane coupling agent to link parts commonly. The mild reaction environment also brings advantages for the spread of the silane coupling agent. In this review, we summarize two main methods of using the silane coupling agent. One is acting as a crosslinker mixed in the whole system, and the other is to provide a bridge between different surfaces. Moreover, we introduce their applications in biomedical devices.

Abstract:Prior treatment of NdFeB powders is vital to the preparation of bonded NdFeB magnets. This paper presents the effect of titanate and silane coupling agents on the properties of bonded NdFeB. It is shown that the magnet made of powders treated with titanate coupling agents got higher magnetic properties, while the magnet made of powders treated with silane coupling agents got higher strength. The effecting mechanism of coupling agents is analysed.

Abstract:In this study, four kinds of coupling agents (i.e., silane KH550, silane KH560, titanate NXT-102, titanate NXT-201), were used to modify the surfaces of aluminum (Al) particles. The effects of these coupling agents on the microstructures and dielectric properties of the Al/epoxy composites were investigated by the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and dielectric analyzer. The SEM observations reveal that the use of coupling agents improved the interfacial bond strength between Al particles and epoxy resin, and decreased the voids and defects at the phase interfaces. The dielectric analysis indicate that the surface modification of Al particles had an appreciable effect on the dielectric permittivity of the composites at high filler concentration, that is, at 70 wt% Al particles (treated with silane KH560) content, the dielectric permittivity of the composites reached 34.1, as compared to 19.6 for the untreated filler reinforced one; however, the dielectric loss factors of the composites slightly decreased, and they remained at a very low level under various applied sweep frequencies despite the filler content.
Synthesis of Novel Silane Coupling Agent and its Coupling Effects on Properties of Organosilicon Sealant

Abstract:Two kinds of novel silane coupling agents containing cyano-group and m-amino group separately were synthesized through addition reaction by using traditional coupling agents DL-602 and KH-792 with acrylonitrile, respectively. The chemical structure of the products were confirmed by IR, 1H-NMR and element analysis. Effects of types and amounts of silane coupling agent on mechanical, adhesive, and surface paintable properties of organosilicon sealant were investigated. The results reveal that the novel silane coupling agents have advantages over traditional ones due to their stability and less active hydrogen atoms. Adding these agents as modifier agent during the preparation of organosilicon sealant could promote the rate of vulcanization, enhance the mechanical properties and adhesive properties with concrete, glass and aluminium. Meanwhile, surface paintable properties are also improved significantly. These effects can be attributed to the changes of crosslink density and molecular interactions or introduction of cyano-group. The former enhance the mechanical properties while the latter improves the adhesive properties and surface paintable properties.

Abstract:Coupling agents have important effects on increasing the compatibility between ceramic powder and organic binder. The single molecular layer saturated absorptions of three kinds of coupling agents on Al2O3 powder surface were determined (2.22% for SA, 2.15% for 1-octadecanol and 3.36% for Aluminate) and the reaction mechanism between them was also discussed. The effects of three coupling agents on viscosity were compared at this absorption content. Aluminate is the best choice because it can effectively reduce the viscosity of Al2O3 system and keep it stable at different temperature.

Abstract:A silane coupling agent and two macromolecule coupling agents were used to treat the surface of aluminum hydroxide(ATH) and the influence of these coupling agents on properties of PE/ATH composite was investigated. Microstructures of the composites were studied by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that the macromolecule coupling agents improved the mechanical properties better than silane coupling agent.The thermo-stability of the materials was also improved via introducing a macromolecule coupling agent.

Abstract:The surface of nanosilica was treated by KH550,KH560 and KH570 respectively.Such kinds of silicas were dispersed in a blending resin,and the products were evaluated from various aspects.The methods of TEM,IR and TGA were used to characterize the treating effect of different coupling agent and microstructure and heat-resistant properties of nanocomposites.There was spectral evidence that the silica surface is modified by the coupling agents.Among all,the silica treated by KH560 shows the best dispersion in the matrix,and the nanocomposite which filled with the silica treated by KH560 shows the best heat-resistant behavior.

Abstract:This review mainly focuses on the applications of metal nanoparticles in coupling reactions, including the construction of C-C bond, C-N bond, C-O bond and C-S bond. Various metal nanoparticles, such as palladium nanoparticles, gold nanoparticles, ruthenium nanoparticles, nickel nanoparticles, cobalt nanoparticles, copper nanoparticles and copper oxide nanoparticles have been used as the catalysts for the coupling reactions. All of these metal nanoparticles are good heterogeneous catalysts for these coupling reactions and easy to be separated from the products. These reactions are briefly summarized in tables, which render readers quick understanding of the nanoparticle catalyzed coupling reactions reported. The application of metal nanoparticles presents a booming perspective in organic synthesis.

Abstract:Hollow glass microspheres (HGMs), as a reinforcing material to prepare lightweight high-performance composites, have excellent mechanical properties. However, the composites prepared by simply mixing hollow glass microspheres with polymer resin have poor performance. In this study, compound coupling agent-modified HGM/EP composites were prepared by casting process with two silane coupling agents as compound coupling agents. Scanning electron microscopy and infrared (IR) spectroscopy were used to characterize the treated HGM. Meanwhile density, water absorption behavior, and mechanical properties of the modified HGM-filled epoxy composites were examined. It is found that the compound coupling agent could effectively improve the interfacial bonding between HGM and the matrix resin. A new chemical bond was formed between HGM and EP, which was confirmed by IR spectroscopy. Compared with their untreated counterparts, the composites treated with the complex coupling agent exhibited excellent mechanical properties, along with lower density and lower water absorption.
