Abstract:Engineering plastic has many good characters such as light mass,high specific strength,good erosion resistance,antifriction and self-lubricating property,so it is greatly heeded in theoretical study and practical application. With new materials and new process continuous appearing in plastics industry,engineering plastics with good mechanical and processing property are developed gradually. The application of engineering plastic in agricultural machinery is wider and wider. Engineering plastics will replace metal materials and become important materials in agricultural machinery. In this paper the properties and the application of engineering plastic in agricultural machinery are summarized. The prospects of engineering plastic are analyzed.
Calculation of injection molding shrinkage of plastic gears

Abstract:The shrinkage mechanism of injection molding for plastic gears was discussed.The major factors influencing the shrinkage amount were described.After analysis on the shrinkage rules and characteristics,it was found that a plastic gear tends to shrink toward its geometrical center and a new concept was put forward.The relation between mould cavities and plastic gears was obtained through calculation and the shrinkage angle and shrinkage rate were discussed.Researches prove that involute mould cavity makes involute plastic gears.

The industry has grown and there are now hundreds of P/M-related companies which engage in powder production and the manufacture of P/M structural and functional materials. Continued expansion is occurring, spurred by an increasing demand for P/M parts in automobiles an domestic appliances. Scientific research and educational programs in P/M are conducted at several universities and institutes. The review concludes with a brief discussion of P/M associations in China.

Abstract:The identification of optimal processing parameters is an important practice in the plastic injection moulding industry because of the significant effect of such parameters on plastic part quality and cost. However, the optimization design of injection moulding process parameters can be difficult because more than one quality characteristic is used in the evaluation. This study systematically develops a hybrid optimization method for multiple quality characteristics by integrating the Taguchi parameter design, grey relational analysis, and principal component analysis. A plastic gear is used to demonstrate the efficiency and validity of the proposed hybrid optimization method in controlling all influential injection moulding processing parameters during plastic gear manufacturing. To minimize the shrinkage behaviour in tooth thickness, addendum circle, and dedendum circle of moulded gear, the optimal combination of different process parameters is determined. The case study demonstrates that the proposed optimization method can produce plastic-moulded gear with minimum shrinkage behaviour of 1.8%, 1.53%, and 2.42% in tooth thickness, addendum circle, and dedendum circle, respectively; these values are less than the values in the main experiment. Therefore, shrinkage-related defects that lead to severe failure in plastic gears can be effectively minimized while satisfying the demand of the global plastic gear industry.

Abstract:In recent years, polymer gears have gradually become more widely employed in medium or heavy-duty conditions based on weight reduction in transmission systems because of low costs and low noise compared to metal gears. In the current industry, proposing a cost-effective approach to the manufacture of polymer gears is an important research issue. This paper investigates the wear performance of polymer gears fabricated with eight different kinds of materials using differential pressure vacuum casting and additive manufacturing techniques. It was found that both additive manufacturing and differential pressure vacuum casting seem to be an effective and cost-effective method for low-volume production of polymer gears for industrial applications. The gate number of one is the optimal design to manufacture a silicone rubber mold for differential pressure vacuum casting since the weld line of the polymer is only one. Polyurethane resin, 10 wt.% glass fiber-reinforced polylatic acid (PLA), or 10 wt.% carbon fiber-reinforced PLA are suggested for manufacturing gears for small quantity demand based on the deformation and abrasion weight percentage under process conditions of 3000 rpm for 120 min; epoxy resin is not suitable for making gears because part of the teeth will be broken during abrasion testing.

Abstract:Given their exceptional performance, plastic packaging products are widely used in daily life, and the dramatic expansion in plastic packaging waste (PPW) has exacerbated environmental problems. Many countries have enacted laws and developed recycling technologies to manage plastic packaging waste in consideration of the nature of PPW as both garbage and a resource. As the world’s largest producer and consumer of plastics, China has also taken measures to address this issue. This paper presents the latest management regulations and recycling strategies for PPW in China. Based on an analysis of the current management status of PPW and recycling technologies and their carbon emission impacts, some management suggestions and a comprehensive full-chain recycling process were put forward. We supposed that management challenges that need to be overcome in the future can be solved through the improvement of green designs for plastic packaging, manufacturing technology updates, consumption concept changes, and the high-value utilization of PPW. This paper aims to provide valuable references for government decisions on PPW management and, furthermore, to set up an economically sensible and industrially feasible PPW solution and boost the development of PPW recycling.

Abstract:Based on the review of the common process methods of gear,the spin-forming of the inner meshing gear of cups has been introduced with emphatical analysis of the deformation mechanism for the inner meshing gear of cups.The result indicated that spin-forming was scientific and effective for process of the cup-shaped thin-walled inner gear.

Abstract:For the past two years, robots comeback with a high profile and present huge market prospects; advanced manufacturing equipment especially high-end CNC machine tool is still in urgent demand. However, their development is still not going well due to that basic components and CNC systems rely on imported goods, manufacturing techniques of key functional units are missing, reliability and performance of lead rails and lead screws are not good enough. In particular, swing tool heads and high-performance reducers, which greatly determine the functionality and performance of machine tools and robots, are important barriers for machine tools and robots in China to catch up with the world’s advanced level. Mechanism is a basic discipline of equipment structural design, and mechanism innovation is fundamental to the equipment innovation. Then, mechanism is naturally charged with the responsibility of innovation. Incorporating with the structure, functionality and application of machine tools and robots, the opportunities encountered by mechanism in the current stage of China have been analyzed and discussed. Hopefully, this work can provide references for the effective integration of academic research and industrial demand for advanced manufacturing equipment.

Abstract:In traditional gear design, the design theory is based on a rigid hypothesis and is popularly adopted in the preparation of metal gear. Plastic gear designing lacks a mature design theory. Hence, scholars still follow the traditional gear design theory. There is a marked difference in the rigidity and stiffness between the conventional gear design and plastic gear features. In traditional design theory, the deformation is 0.2% (Note: To assess the material yield, conditional yield strength is calculated). Designing deformation can exceed 2% for plastic gears, and the difference can sometimes be more than tenfold. The traditional design theory cannot match the gear strength and precision in the design of plastic gear. In the case of plastic gear, due to numerous meshing teeth, the 2% deformation seen cannot be neglected and should be taken into account in the presence and absence of loading to improve the meshing condition. Improvement in the gear loading ability and reduction in the meshing noise can thus be achieved. Herein, we propose an unequal pitch design theory. The results of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and experimental verification showed that the strength could be increased by 24% for unequal pitch design theory.

Abstract:Recently, 3D printing technology has obtained the rapid development which brings immeasurable changes. It is considered to be one of the main marks of the third industrial revolution. The shares of Avic Heavy Machinery co., Ltd (600765) involving 3D printing technology continuously hardened six times in January 2013.Taking it as an example, we expound the connotation and advantages of 3D printing technology seriously and also elaborate the background of 3D printing technology. In addition, by analyzing its operation ability, profitability and growth capacity, we find the shares of Avic Heavy Machinery co., Ltd (600765) hardened on account of 3D concept hype, and not its performance. Then we describe the existing problems in the development of 3D printing technology in our country. Finally we give some corresponding suggestions to the development of 3D printing technology from three angles.

Abstract:There are many plastic materials (POM, PA66, PEEK, ...) and material combinations available. The question is which combination is the correct one. It depends on many factors, like expected durability and price, means of production, e.g. injection moulding or cutting, lubrication, microstructure, fillers, etc. The available data bases and data sheets do not present conclusive results. So, it is of the utmost importance for a company to produce effective tests which could present correct results for each individual case. The gear tooth flank profile could be also optimized. S-gear shape is characterized by a convex concave contact in meshing start and end areas. This implies improved properties in comparison to involute gears, like lower contact pressure, less sliding and lower frictional losses, stronger root and improved oil film when lubricated. The paper presents some material properties for the combinations which were tested on the fatigue test benches, presents testing rigs, refers to experiments and discusses results.

Abstract:In this paper, the transmission mechanism of a plastic worm meshed with a steel helical gear is applied to achieve power transmission and motion transfer. Tooth profile equations of the gear pair are derived and general meshing conditions are proposed in terms of gear geometry. A mathematical model of the tooth profiles of the gear pair is established. Contact stress analysis and general evolution law of the tooth profiles are discussed using the finite element method. Material characteristics, mesh generation, contact definition, and constraint conditions are given. For comparison, analysis results of a steel worm meshed with a steel helical gear is also provided. Through the hobbing process, injection molding, and machining center, samples of steel helical gears, plastic worm, and steel worm are completed, respectively. A characteristic test of the transmission mechanism of the plastic worm meshed with a steel helical gear is carried out based on the microtransmission experimental platform. The contrasting results show that the plastic worm has better transmission performance.
