Abstract:The find of network topology is the base to carry out many key network management tasks. So it is necessary to design and implement a tool which can automatically create network topology. Several algorithms of network topology discovery are discussed And analyzed. And a new algorithm based on SNMP is proposed. Further more a new algorithm of topology-graph creation is also designed to display the structure of network. The testing result of the system based on this algorithm is given. The testing result shows that the a Igorithm is correct and efficient.

Abstract:Network topology discovery is important for the modern network management,analysis of performance and localization of fault.According to the characteristics of actual heterogeneous network,after the analysis of the existing algorithm based on MAC address forwarding table,submits a new algorithm of physical topology discovery in heterogeneous IP network depended on SNMP protocol,the algorithm can discover physical layer topology in a efficient,accurate and complete way,which can be applied to discover not only the managed devices,but also the non-managed dumb devices(e.g.HUBs).

This paper discusses the architecture and some key techniques in constructing a topology discovering system based on ICMP. This system is developed targeted at campus network. The results of experimentation are presented on a map. It shows that the methods and discovery principles taken by the topology discovering system are feasible and general.

Abstract:Aim at overcoming the shortages of existing network topology discovery methods based on SNMP and ICMP which are active detection methods, such as poor real-time and increasing the network load, a discovery algorithm for network topology based on OSPF is proposed. The algorithm applies the way of passive monitoring to obtain the link state update (LSU) packet of OSPF protocol through Jpcap, and analyzes the topology information contained in the LSU packet, which can discover the network topology. Experimental result illustrates that the proposed algorithm can quickly and accurately obtain complete network topology.

Abstract:The weakness of simple network management protocol-based traditional network topology discovery was analyzed.Then a method of network topology discovery and analysis at logical layer based on RIP and ICMP was presented.The new method had two steps,the discovery and analysis of backbone network topology of router and the analysis of subnet topology.Alias probing and RIP were both used in router topology discovery.And the analysis outcome of backbone network was used as the basis for subnet discovery analysis.

Abstract:This paper at first introduces several kinds of centralized automatic discovery algorithms for network topology, which include utilizing SNMP protocol to visit MIB (management information base) to construct network topology and building network topology based on OSPF or RIP protocol and so on. Next, it gives detailed analysis on those implementation techniques based on the information of MIB which is got through SNMP protocol. The paper also gives some comparison of all the techniques above. Finally, it proposes a kind of realization model of distributed network topology discovery algorithm.

Abstract:With the rapid development of computer networks, network management has become more and more complex. In order to improve the operational and intelligence of the management of network equipment and services, we present an improved network topology auto-discovery algorithm based on Simple Network Management Protocol(SNMP), Internet Control Message Protocol(ICMP) and Address Resolution Protocol(ARP). The algorithm based on standard MIB-II and ICMP command, according to TCP/IP protocol addressing relevant principles, to achieve rapid network topology discovery and further reduce the network load. Experimental results show that the algorithm can quickly and accurately find the network topology.

Abstract:With the continuous development of information technology,and the cyberspace security obtains more and more value,the existing network security products have been difficult to meet the user's demand,which has more and more extensive network security.This paper analyzed the importance of network topology discovery in the area of network security and the advantages and disadvantages of the existing network topology,and improved the original topology discovery algorithm of network-layer.Though improving OSPF and SNMP topology discovery rules of network-layer,a network topology algorithm combining the common advantages of SNMP and OSPF was achieved.Experimental results prove that it has a good performance.

Abstract:Exact network topology is very important to failure detection and performance analysis in network management.By researching,synthesizing and improving present network topology discovery algorithm,the paper proposes a complete and general algorithm.Especially,this algorithm improves a lot in finding physical topology and has extensive adaptive capacity.It can completely and exactly discover all layer-3 devices,layer-2 devices,subnets and hosts in the network and link relationship between them when there exist layer-3 switches and multi VLANs in the network.

Abstract:By analyzing and comparing all kinds of domestic and overseas network topology discovery methods,this paper proposes a real-time network topology discovery algorithm based on Simple Network Management Protocol(SNMP),which is oriented network situation awareness.It concludes technologies of estimation of network device’ activity,estimation of network device’s type,storage and disposal of network topology information,and has the advantages of high real-time and accurate discovery compared with traditional ones.Experiment proves that the algorithm is feasible and accurate.

Abstract:In this paper, we present two novel algorithms, one for discovery logical topology, the other one for discovering physical topology in heterogeneous IP networks. The algorithm for logical network, which adopt heurism\greedy algorithms, can be applied to large scale IP network. For the algorithm can self deduce IP addresses, adjust the search domain, it has strong adaptabilities. Another novel algorithm is presented for physical topology which includes switches, hosts and hubs. At the same time, a new data structure named Treelike-Graphics for topology discovery is presented with precise mathematic definition, relationship set and proprietary operation on this data structure. The algorithm, which we present in this paper, does no base on the STP protocol to get the information of topology. So, there are few preconditions to the algorithm. We have implemented the algorithm presented in this paper in Perl in Tsinghua University own research network. The experimental results clearly validate our algorithm, demonstrating that our algorithm can consistently discover the accurate physical network topology with reasonably small running-time requirements.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a novel algorithm for discovering physical topology in heterogeneous (i.e. multi-vendor) single subnet IP networks. Our algorithm is based on standard SNMP MIB information that is widely supported by modern IP network elements. Algorithm resorts to the portýs traffic when AFT information is insufficient. Simulation and analysis results show that this algorithm can discover the physical network topology accurately even if SNMP is not supported by some network elements.

Abstract:An improved SNMP-Based network topology auto-discovery algorithm has been examined and put forward. Compared to the traditional topology discovery algorithm,the improved algorithm can find all routing devices in the depth-specified network and all active hosts in the specified subnet, which has resolved the problem of incomplete topology discovery in networks containing layer 3 switches. Moreover, some key techniques in the improved algorithm, such as how to obtain the relative MIB objects in network devices and how to find all active hosts in the specified subnet, has also been analyzed.
