Abstract:Let V be a projective hypersurface of fixed degree and dimension which has only isolated singular points. We show that, if the sum of the Milnor numbers at the singular points of V is large, then V cannot have a point of large multiplicity, unless V is a cone. As an application, we give an affirmative answer to a conjecture of Dimca and Papadima.

In this work, we establish connections between various local invariants, including the Milnor number, the polar multiplicity, the local Euler obstruction, and the Euler obstruction of a function and a map, specifically focusing on the case of isolated determinantal singularities.

Abstract:Definition 0. Let V be a Stein analytic space with x as its only singular point. Let 7r: M -V be a resolution of the singularity of V. We shall denote dim H1(M, 9), 1 < i < n 1 by h(i), and dim Hq(M, UP) for 1 ? p < n, 1 < q < n by hP,q(M). So far as the classification problem is concerned, h (n-i) is one of the most important invariants. In this paper, we shall introduce a bunch of invariants (cf. Definition 2.6, Definition 4.1, and Definition 5.1) which are naturally attached to isolated singularities. These invariants are used to characterize the different notions of sheaves of germs of holomorphic differential forms on analytic spaces. Various formulae which relate all these invariants are proved. We also show how to calculate these invariants explicitly. Our paper is organized as follows. In section 2 we discuss the relationship between three different kinds of sheaves of germs of holomorphic forms introduced by Grauert-Grothendieck, Noether and Ferrari respectively, and the dualizing sheaf on a complex analytic space which admits only isolated singularities. We remark that the torsion sheaf of the sheaf of germs of holomorphic p-forms in the sense of Grauert-Grothendieck was studied by Brieskorn [9], Greuel [48], Kantor [19], Suzuki [38], Vetter [39] and the author [43]. Abstract:Let f : (C-n, 0) -> (C, 0) be a germ of a complex analytic function with an isolated critical point at the origin. Let V = {z is an element of C-n : f (z) = 0}. A beautiful theorem of Saito [1971] gives a necessary and sufficient condition for V to be defined by a weighted homogeneous polynomial. It is a natural and important question to characterize (up to a biholomorphic change of coordinates) a homogeneous polynomial with an isolated critical point at the origin. For a two-dimensional isolated hypersurface singularity V, Xu and Yau [1992; 1993] found a coordinate-free characterization for V to be defined by a homogeneous polynomial. Lin and Yau [2004] and Chen, Lin, Yau, and Zuo [2001] gave necessary and sufficient conditions for 3- and 4-dimensional isolated hypersurface singularities with p(g) >= 0 and p(g) > 0, respectively. However, it is quite difficult to generalize their methods to give characterization of homogeneous polynomials. In 2005, Yau formulated the Yau Conjecture 1.1: (1) Let mu and nu be the Milnor number and multiplicity of (V, 0), respectively. Then mu >= (nu - 1)(n), and the equality holds if and only if f is a semihomogeneous function. (2) If f is a quasihomogeneous function, then mu = (nu - 1)(n) if and only if f is a homogeneous polynomial after change of coordinates. In this paper we solve part (1) of Yau Conjecture 1.1 for general n. We introduce a new method, which allows us to solve the part (2) of Yau Conjecture 1.1 for n = 5 and 6. As a result we have shown that for n D 5 or 6, f is a homogeneous polynomial after a biholomorphic change of coordinates if and only if mu = tau = (nu - 1)(n). As a by-product we have also proved Yau Conjecture 1.2 in some special cases.

Abstract:Reduced power series in two variables with coefficients in a field of characteristic zero satisfy a well-known formula that relates a codimension related to the normalization of a ring and the jacobian ideal. In the general case Deligne proved that this formula is only an inequality; García Barroso and Płoski stated a conjecture for irreducible power series. In this work we generalize Kouchnirenko's formula for any degenerated power series and also generalize García Barroso and Płoski's conjecture. We prove the conjecture in some cases using in particular Greuel and Nguyen.

Abstract:Let f : (Cn+1, 0) --> (C,0) be a holomorphic germ defining an isolated hypersurface singularity V at the origin. Let mu and nu and p(g) be the Milnor number, multiplicity and geometric genus of (V, 0), respectively. We conjecture that mu >= (nu-1)(n+1) and the equality holds if and only if f is a semi-homogeneous function. We prove that this inequality holds for n = 1, and also for n = 2 or 3 with additional assumption that f is a quasihomogeneous function. For n = 1, if V has at most two irreducible branches at the origin, or if f is a quasi-homogeneous function, then mu = (nu-1)(2) if and only if f is a homogeneous polynomial. For n = 2, if f is a quasihomogeneous function, then mu = (nu-1)(3) iff 6p(g) = nu(nu - 1)(nu - 2) iff f is a homogeneous polynomial after biholomorphic change of variables. Abstract:Let (V, 0) subset of (C-n, 0) be a weighted homogeneous isolated hypersurface singularity. In this paper, we give explicit formulas of its k-th Milnor numbers and the k-th Tjurina numbers in terms of its weight type. Moreover, we propose a sharp lower bound conjecture for the k-th Tjurina numbers and verify this conjecture for binomial singularities. We also give a new characterization for the simple hypersurface singularities.

Abstract:We study the singularities of holomorphic maps of C-2 tangent to the identity. We will adapt the method of Hironaka for the resolution of singularities of algebraic varieties to our study. In particular, we introduce a new numerical invariant associated to such maps at the singularities, called "adapted order", which behaves well under blow-ups. Though other methods for desingularizing such maps exist, our approach has the advantage that it has no essential obstruction for generalizing to higher dimensions.

Abstract:We prove that to each real singularity $f: (\mathbb{R}^{n+1}, 0) \to (\mathbb{R}, 0)$ one can associate two systems of differential equations $\mathfrak{g}^{k\pm}_f$ which are pushforwards in the category of $\mathcal{D}$-modules over $\mathbb{R}^{\pm}$, of the sheaf of real analytic functions on the total space of the positive, respectively negative, Milnor fibration. We prove that for $k=0$ if $f$ is an isolated singularity then $\mathfrak{g}^{\pm}$ determines the the $n$-th homology groups of the positive, respectively negative, Milnor fibre. We then calculate $\mathfrak{g}^{+}$ for ordinary quadratic singularities and prove that under certain conditions on the choice of morsification, one recovers the top homology groups of the Milnor fibers of any isolated singularity $f$. As an application we construct a public-key encryption scheme based on morsification of singularities.

Abstract:For a reduced complex analytic curve germ we introduce an algebraic invariant we call the complete intersection discrepancy. We determine some of its basic properties. As an application we derive a multiplicity formula for the Milnor number of a reduced smoothable curve singularity generalizing a well-known formula due to Lê, Greuel and Teissier for complete intersection curves. We obtain a multiplicity characterization of Whitney equisingularity for families of locally smoothable curves.

Abstract:Abstract Given a germ of an analytic variety X and a germ of a holomorphic function f with a stratified isolated singularity with respect to the logarithmic stratification of X , we show that under certain conditions on the singularity type of the pair ( f , X ), the following relative analog of the well-known K. Saito’s theorem holds true: equality of the relative Milnor and Tjurina numbers of f with respect to X (also known as Bruce–Roberts numbers) is equivalent to the relative quasihomogeneity of the pair ( f , X ), i.e. to the existence of a coordinate system such that both f and X are quasihomogeneous with respect to the same positive rational weights.

Abstract:The number of Morse points in a Morsification determines the topology of the Milnor fibre of a holomorphic function germ $f$ with isolated singularity. If $f$ has an arbitrary singular locus, then this nice relation to the Milnor fibre disappears. We show that despite this loss, the numbers of stratified Morse singularities of a general linear Morsification are effectively computable in terms of topological invariants of $f$.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the notion of spectral genus $\widetilde{p}_{g}$ of a germ of an isolated hypersurface singularity $(\mathbb{C}^{n+1}, 0) \to (\mathbb{C}, 0)$, defined as a sum of small exponents of monodromy eigenvalues. The number of these is equal to the geometric genus $p_{g}$, and hence $\widetilde{p}_g$ can be considered as a secondary invariant to it. We then explore a secondary version of the Durfee conjecture on $p_{g}$, and we predict an inequality between $\widetilde{p}_{g}$ and the Milnor number $\mu$, to the effect that $$\widetilde{p}_g\leq\frac{\mu-1}{(n+2)!}.$$ We provide evidence by confirming our conjecture in several cases, including homogeneous singularities and singularities with large Newton polyhedra, and quasi-homogeneous or irreducible curve singularities. We also show that a weaker inequality follows from Durfee's conjecture, and hence holds for quasi-homogeneous singularities and curve singularities. Our conjecture is shown to relate closely to the asymptotic behavior of the holomorphic analytic torsion of the sheaf of holomorphic functions on a degeneration of projective varieties, potentially indicating deeper geometric and analytic connections.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of the \textit{Bruce-Roberts number} for holomorphic 1-forms relative to complex analytic varieties. Our main result shows that the Bruce-Roberts number of a 1-form $\omega$ with respect to a complex analytic hypersurface $X$ with an isolated singularity can be expressed in terms of the \textit{Ebeling--Gusein-Zade index} of $\omega$ along $X$, the \textit{Milnor number} of $\omega$ and the \textit{Tjurina number} of $X$. This result allows us to recover known formulas for the Bruce-Roberts number of a holomorphic function along $X$ and to establish connections between this number, the radial index, and the local Euler obstruction of $\omega$ along $X$. Moreover, we present applications to both global and local holomorphic foliations in complex dimension two.

Abstract:We study the topology of analytic families of $n$-dimensional complex hypersurfaces having an isolated singularity at the origin. We prove that such a family is $\mu$-constant if and only if it admits an uniform Milnor radius, which happens if and only if it has constant embedded topological type. In particular, this solves the $\mu$-constant problem, formulated by D.T. Lê and C.P. Ramanujam in 1976.

Abstract:Mixed polynomials $f:\mathbb{C}^2\to\mathbb{C}$ are polynomial maps in complex variables $u$ and $v$ as well as their complex conjugates $\bar{u}$ and $\bar{v}$. They are therefore identical to the set of real polynomial maps from $\mathbb{R}^4$ to $\mathbb{R}^2$. We generalize Mondal's notion of partial non-degeneracy from holomorphic polynomials to mixed polynomials, introducing the concepts of partially non-degenerate and strongly partially non-degenerate mixed functions. We prove that partial non-degeneracy implies the existence of a weakly isolated singularity, while strong partial non-degeneracy implies an isolated singularity. We also compare (strong) partial non-degeneracy with other types of non-degeneracy of mixed functions, such as (strong) inner non-degeneracy, and find that, in contrast to the holomorphic setting, the different properties are not equivalent for mixed polynomials. We then introduce additional conditions under which strong partial non-degeneracy becomes equivalent to the existence of an isolated singularity. Furthermore, we prove that mixed polynomials that are strongly inner non-degenerate satisfy the strong Milnor condition, resulting in an explicit Milnor (sphere) fibration.
