Comparison of Primary PCI and Venous Thrombolysis for Patients with ST-segment Elevation Acute Myocardial Infarction

Abstract:Objective: To compare the efficacy of primary percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) and venous thrombolysis for patients with ST-segment acute elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI). Methods: Two hundred and ninty-five patients with STEMI were treated with primary PCI (PCI group, n=158, in which 98.6% of the patients were implanted with stents), or venous thrombolysis (thrombolysis group, n=137). The reperfusion rate, left ventricular ejection fraction, mortality rate, major adverse cardiac event rate, and average time in hospital were compared between the two groups. The mortality rate, major adverse cardiac event rate, and average time in hospital in PCI group were significantly lower than those in thrombolysis group[3.2% vs 5.8%, 8.2% vs 20.4%, (10.5±7.3)d vs (25.5±12.7)d; P0.05). Conclusion: For patients with STEMI, the efficacy of primary PCI(stent is implanted if possible) is better than that of venous thrombolysis.
