Abstract:[Background] To make China a superpower, Xi Jinping has provided the United Front Work (UFW) with large-scale resources to secure China's domestics stability and global outreach of its national power. [Purpose] This article investigates why and how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) under Xi administration has been vigorously trying to co-opt politically non-communist forces at home and abroad by means of the UFW. The above analysis also sheds ligt on the characteristics of Xi's political thought, leadership style as well as his idea of political strategy for the "Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation (zhonghua minzu weida fuxing)." [Main Argument] In foreign activities, China's influence through developing various UFW institutional settings has been strengthened. However, its construction of human network which contributes to CCP's political aims and its maintenance of information flaw bases have been mostly made up of personal effort in the long-term activity of the UFW. [Conclusions] It is true that the democratic regimes need to adopt a cautious approach toward China's foreign influence, but to identify activities of the UFW in their homeland is not so much difficult because they are usually patterned in most cases. Then, in the research on the UFW, Xi Jinping's political conservativeness has again become highlighted. The basic orientation of his political thinking is not the reform and innovation of the regime, but the revival of 'good tradition' and renovation of the CCP.

Abstract:The Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC)is an action plan for the CPC to rally and lead the people to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics on the new journey of the new era.It gives a rational answer to the philosophical question of"Where is socialism with Chinese characteristics headed on the new journey of the new era"that underlies in the development course of this country,and contains strategic thinking that is forward-looking,big-picture,and pioneering.From a strategic perspective,the Report to the 20th National Congress points out a scientific path for China's future development,clarifies phased tasks,and defines specific strategic choices,reflecting the forward-looking strategic vision of planning the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Based on the viewpoint of holistic,developing,and universal connection,it aims to achieve the unity between local and overall interests in strategic deployment,the unity between the present and the future in strategic objectives,and the unity between domestic and international development in strategic vision.It highlights the principles of scientific socialism as upholding the guidance of Marxism,the overall leadership of the CPC,and the people's decisive role in history,pioneering a new frontier in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times.

Abstract:The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) ‘with-Chinese-characteristics’ discourse proclaims its superiority in reflecting people’s genuine needs without poisonous partisan politics, as in Western democracies. The Party’s consultative democracy, as represented by its allies in forums including the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, is key to this superiority. Consequently, the organizer of these inputs, the United Front Work Department (UFWD), is a key element of CCP legitimacy as its organizer of representation of the increasing number of non-Party social forces. This ostensible alliance allows the Party to proclaim itself as the representative of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people. Nevertheless, little recent work has been done on either this consultation or the Department. Through the processes of legitimation and de-legitimation, this article decodes how this consultative process works by examining the UFWD’s methods in relation to religious believers. Under Xi Jinping, united front work is again being prioritized and is closely tied to his reform plans.

A great deal of problems existing in the administration of mass organizations in China demand that, on one hand, we should perfect double administrative system and administrative structure system. Abstract:This paper first describes the characteristics of organizational behavior and leadership research, and delineates the status quo of Chinese and international research. We can see that Chinese scholars have made fast progress in this field in the past decade and have tremendous potentials. Second, after comparing Chinese and oversea researchers in studied topics and methods, we point out the shortcomings of the current Chinese research. The third section of the paper presents the innovations of the organizational behavior and leadership research in theory, method and paradigm. Scholars are encouraged to focus on the phenomena relevant to Chinese economic and social development, to identify the research questions that are relevant to this field, and to conduct research in rigorous and creative ways. To achieve this goal, Chinese scholars need to learn from the existing theories and methods, and choose appropriate perspectives to examine the identified questions. In order to inspire Chinese scholars to investigate the important phenomena in the Chinese context, and therefore to contribute to the international academy, the third section also introduces several recent studies with high impacts. The paper concludes with the future research directions in the field of organizational behavior and leadership.
Union Organizing in China: Still A Monolithic Labor Movement?

Abstract:In contrast to much of the research that treats the official All China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) as a monolithic organization, the author argues that there is considerable variation within ACFTU in terms of local union organizing strategies. Using extensive field research and interviews with regional union officials, grassroots union cadres, shop floor workers, and employers and managers in China during the period 2005–2007, the author contributes to an understanding of contemporary trade union strategies in China. Moreover, his analysis of regional union strategies suggests three patterns of union organizing: the traditional ACFTU pattern, the union association pattern, and the regional, industry-based bargaining pattern, each with vastly different consequences for the future of trade unions and collective bargaining in China.

Abstract:This article examines the Hong Kong regime's mechanisms of countermobilization as a reaction to and preemptive strike against dissent. It reveals how united front work historically rooted in Chinese Communist Party apparatuses has penetrated into Hong Kong. The PRC's Liaison Office in Hong Kong and the Hong Kong government have established a hierarchical yet dispersed platform to combine repression with outsourced contention. Hong Kong's regime demonstrates its resilience in how it and the Liaison Office's united front apparatus recruit nonstate actors to constrain opposition from below through both carrots and sticks. More broadly, the article unpacks how the regime's mechanisms of patronage, counterprotest, attrition, and stigmatization operate. While these regime repertoires have curtailed organized resistance during some periods, they have also eroded the regime's legitimacy, exposing it to the re-eruption of protests.
