Abstract:Culture is ubiquitous and is everywhere.As an important part of nonverbal communication,the transmission of time message also has profound cultural connotation.Different cultures have shaped different concepts of time.The differences between Chinese and western culture in philosophy,historical background and social system and so on have caused their differences in concept of time and attitude toward time,and as a result,have created different modes of time orientation.The way to deal with time and use time,to a great extent,influences the effect of cross-cultural communication between them.This article,through contrastive analyses of the cultural factors causing the differences in time concept between Chinese culture and western culture,aims at a deeper understanding of the different orientations of time,in order to increase the effectiveness of cross-cultural communication.

The Arrow of Time in Music -- Revisiting the Temporal Structure of Music with Distinguishability and Unique Orientability as the Anchor Point

Abstract:Driven by the term "the arrow of time" as a general topic, the article develops a musical discussion by referring to the etymological origin of the term: philosophy (epistemology) and physics (thermodynamics). In particular, the article explores two specific conditions: distinguishability and unique orientability, from which the article derives respective musical propositions and case studies. For the distinguishability condition, the article focuses on the "recurrence" in music and tries to interpret Bach's Christmas Oratorio from the perspective of "birth/resurrection". For the unique orientability condition, the article discusses the process of delaying the climax, thereby proposing "AB-AAB left-replication" model, implying an organicist view by treating the temporal structure of music (e.g. form) as the product of a dynamic process: organic growth.

Abstract:the article pointed out that the music is a kind of abstractive symbol,which does not have the reproducibility of linguistic one with.The musical symbols have some kind of similarities with linguistic ones,and meanwhile,their distinctions was also obviously.The author believed that only to confirm this viewpoint,it could be help both of music and linguistics to fulfill each of simbol duties.

Abstract:The article reviewed the latest progre ss in the field of musical time perception from four main aspects: (1)the percep tion of time in music, including the mechanism and encoding of musical time,such as rhythm; (2)the performance of time in music(i.e. timing), which was focused on the systematic variations in timing and the theoretic interpretation about it ; (3)the perception-performance connection in music and its explanation; (4)the function of implicit knowledge and implicit learning in musical time perception .At last,the article concerned about the direction for future research,and point ed out the importance to study the function of implicit unconcious factor in mus ical time perception.

Abstract:Adopting a performer-centric perspective, we frequently encounter two statements: "music flows", and "music is life-like". This dissertation builds on top of the two statements above, resulting in an exploration of the role of temporal asymmetry in music (generalizing "music flows") and its relation to the idea of organicism (generalizing "music is life-like"). We focus on two aspects of temporal asymmetry. The first aspect concerns the vastly different epistemic mechanisms with which we obtain knowledge of the past and the future. A particular musical consequence follows: recurrence. The epistemic difference between the past and the future shapes our experience and interpretation of recurring events in music. The second aspect concerns the arrow of time: the unambiguous ordering imposed on temporal events gives rise to the a priori pointedness of time, rendering time asymmetrical and irreversible. A discussion on thermodynamics informs us musically: the arrow of time effectuates itself in musical forms by delaying the placement of the climax. Organicism serves as a mediating topic, engaging with the concept of life as in organisms. On the one hand, organicism is related to temporal asymmetry in science via a thermodynamical interpretation of life as entropy-reducing entities. On the other hand, organicism is a topic native to music via the universally acknowledged artistic idea that music should be interpreted as a vital force possessing volitional power. With organicism as a mediator, we better understand the role of temporal asymmetry in music. In particular, we view musical form as a process of expansion and elaboration analogous to organic growth. Finally, we present an organicist interpretation of delaying the climax: viewing musical form as the result of organic growth, the arrow of time translates to a preference for prepending structure over appending structure.

Abstract:A gourd is a sort of pumpkin whose shell is frequently used to keep food and water. Gourds are also used as kitchen utensils, musical instruments or decoration. This paper draws attention to the time framework in gourd image representations, which symbolize universality and immortality (primitive time) as well as the positive notions of regeneration and emptiness. By analyzing the artistic expressions in the form of gourd representations reflected in literature and art, this paper reveals the complex notion of time in Chinese civilization.

Abstract:Using a mixture of physiological evidence and analogies of time, the author describes the current version of a model of how we might view our interactions with time in music and beyond. An older model designed for analysis of complex twentieth-century acoustic works is updated to incorporate varied profiles of electroacoustic music. Recent research in auditory systems corroborates that we receive different types of information simultaneously through different channels, each taking more or less periodic sampling from different bands of frequencies – from timbre to phrase length and beyond. In order to acknowledge both the primitive structures of our complex hearing mechanisms and the different profiles of listeners, it is suggested that this multiple-sampling strategy may operate in a parallel way at a much larger scale, thereby allowing us to integrate the listener's preference for pacing, contrast and densities of activity into the sensory processing of a musical work. The article is enriched by insights from soundscape pioneer Hildegard Westerkamp relating to various aspects of the discussion, from sensory overload to ecological concerns to the natural rallentando of a soundwalk. Finally, a whimsical elaboration based on the analogy of time as a river is presented in order to incorporate a more organic set of characteristics into our appreciation of music and time.

Abstract:The article explores the phenomenon of "time scale" in relation to the new scientific work of the Russian composer Czo Zhenguan "Musical Culture of China: Essays" (2023). The connection between this work and his research on the history of Russo-Chinese musical connections "Russian Musicians in China" (2014) is emphasized. Together, they represent a "double portrait" of the musical culture of the Celestial Empire, with its national genres, the musical-theoretical system of lü, traditional instruments, creative collectives, educational institutions, composers and performers, as well as the influence of foreign (European and Soviet) masters of musical art who brought the experience of their countries. It is noted that both monographs are distinguished by their fundamental nature, broad coverage of phenomena in musical culture, and excellent literary style, which allows us to speak of them as "scientific works" (T. I. Naumenko) deserving serious attention.

Abstract:Ancient Japanese music books have been quite effective in preserving the way the Chinese culture of time evolved dynamically abroad. Studying the relationship of music and dance with the times and festivals revealed in Japanese music books can help restore the context of the rituals and customs of music lost in its Chinese homeland. Japanese Gagaku has succeeded in passing down the seasonal quality of ancient Chinese banquet music which echoed the cycle of times, seasons and phenology and produced a seasonal regularity under which the music corresponded to the season. Some more symbolic Chinese music and dance were selected as the standard music for festivals such as the Double Third Festival, the Double Seventh Festival, and the Dragon Boat Festival. The many aspects of the Chinese culture of time that were accepted by Japan were threedimensional: they included not only the calendar, solar terms, festivals, and other points of time and knowledge of the seasons, but also cultural customs such as sacrificial ceremonies, music and dance, literary narratives, meat and drink, and sports and games. The culture of time that originated from the Han and Tang dynasties not only sustains East Asian countries' identification with natural laws and time, but also shapes their societies' shared aesthetic perception of nature, time, and life.

Abstract:Formal beauty and emotional beauty belong to different aspects that art works go after.They possess different display and experiential value.In essence,the purpose of music analysis is to reveal the artistic value and the formal beauty of music works.Only grasping this beautiful feeling,can we more deeply understand the emotional beauty of works so as to promote the development of artistic creation.The aim of this paper is to expound the musical analysis which exists in technical levels.For different musical techniques of different works,this paper applies various analysis methods to attain the appropriate,clear and correct standards.The paper also elaborates how to recognize the value embodiment from the artistic symbols in order to get into the ideal joining status between the technology formal beauty and the human emotional beauty.The paper lists some examples of music analysis to discuss the special role of symbol interpretation in music analysis.The conclusion is that only revealing the characteristics of the music works can we truly achieve the special mission of analysis: purposes of reference,understanding and comment.

Abstract:Time is an abstract concept.The process of time perception and linguistic representation is mainly by means of metaphor and metonymy.In the study of time in cognitive linguistics,much attention has been given to the metaphorical thinking of time,while the metonymic way has been neglected.However,metonymy is a necessary device in the conceptualization of time.This paper argues that the cognitive process of time is similar to the conceptualization process of metonymy,and therefore a metonymic process,too,which is realized by metonymy between time and events,time and space,and time and motion entity.

Abstract:The study reviewed the achievement of theoretical and practical study on time metaphor in the past decades. With the analysis of the conceptual dimensions of time metaphor representation, it summed up that the archetype of time metaphor is space-time metaphor. The structural characteristics of space-time metaphor according to its moving methods, directions and shapes are discussed. After the analysis and research of the psychological mechanism of space-time metaphor and the interrelation of space, time schemas in the metaphorical mapping, the Weak Metaphorical Structuring View beat other theoretical hypothesis and won more support theoretically and practically. Current time metaphor study mainly focuses on the semantic analysis and cross-culture study, hence the future study may emphasize on the more microcosmic cognitive process of time metaphor and the interaction between the process and personality.

Abstract:Compare music analytical methods with the studying way of composing technical theory in tradition,it possesses very strong nature of practice and is shown as obvious nature of significant annotation.With the help of those efficient analytical methods,we could be able to show deeply and potential pitch-relationship in musical works and other parameters,such as rhythm,timbre,dynamics,etc.,in structural layout.Analytical methods usually are sorts of latent statement of musical semantics,it shows various aspects of which writing language is not able to express.Therefore,methods are never seen as may or may not be needed,but be imperative.It relates to conclusive quality,reasonable means and also a heart matter in music analysis,should not be evade question.The paper puts forward the point that we recognize multiple style of music according to multiple analytical procedures,holding on various analytical methods to suit the demands of multiple music style.It is practicable on the point of MASTERING ANALYTICAL PRINCIPLES AND GETTING ON LOGICAL INSUFFICIENT GROUNDS.There are four sorts of problems in reality,which leading to and becoming heavier obstruction of discipline development,such as,improper subject on writing a paper,deficient and old-fashioned methods to analysis,undefined purpose to music analysis,deficient information to music analysis,etc… The minimum requirement to the conclusion of music analysis should be give a satisfactory explanation on oneself,but a high order of pursue to music analysis should be supplied logic evidence.
