Abstract:In this paper, we consider a model described the survival of red blood cells in animal. Its dynamics are studied in terms of local and global Hopf bifurcations. We show that a sequence of Hopf bifurcations occur at the positive equilibrium as the delay crosses some critical values. Using the reduced system on the center manifold, we also obtain that the periodic orbits bifurcating from the positive equilibrium are stable in the center manifold, and all Hopf bifurcations are supercritical. Further, particular attention is focused on the continuation of local Hopf bifurcation. We show that global Hopf bifurcations exist after the second critical value of time delay.

Abstract:A kind of a discrete red blood cell survival model obtained by Euler method is investigated. Firstly, the linear stability of the model is studied. It is found that there exist Hopf bifurcations when the delay passes a sequence of critical values. Then the explicit algorithm for determining the direction of the Hopf bifurcations and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are derived by using the normal form method and center manifold theorem. Finally, computer simulations are performed to illustrate the analytical results found.

Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is to study the existence of periodic solutions for a nonautonomous differential-difference system describing the dynamics of hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) population under some external periodic regulatory factors at the cellular cycle level. The starting model is a nonautonomous system of two age-structured partial differential equations describing the HSC population in quiescent ($G_0$) and proliferating ($G_1$, $S$, $G_2$ and $M$) phase. We are interested on the effects of a periodically time varying coefficients due for example to circadian rhythms or to the periodic use of certain drugs, on the dynamics of HSC population. The method of characteristics reduces the age-structured model to a nonautonomous differential-difference system. We prove under appropriate conditions on the parameters of the system, using topological degree techniques and fixed point methods, the existence of periodic solutions of our model.

Abstract:An SEI autonomous model with logistic growth rate and its corresponding nonautonomous model are investigated. For the autonomous case, we give the attractive regions of equilibria and perform some numerical simulations. Basic demographic reproduction numberRdis obtained. Moreover, only the basic reproduction numberR0cannot ensure the existence of the positive equilibrium, which needs additional conditionRd>R1. For the nonautonomous case, by introducing the basic reproduction number defined by the spectral radius, we study the uniform persistence and extinction of the disease. The results show that for the periodic system the basic reproduction number is more accurate than the average reproduction number.

Abstract:A periodic mathematical model of cell populations affected by periodic radiation is presented and studied in this paper. We obtain some sufficient conditions on the permanence and extinction of the system. Furthermore, criteria on the existence and global asymptotic stability of unique positive periodic solutions are established. Some numerical examples are shown to verify our results. A discussion is presented for further study.

Abstract:In this paper, we focus on the existence of positive periodic solutions of generalized Leslie–Gower-type population models. Using the topological degree, we provide sufficient conditions to demonstrate the existence of positive periodic solutions to the considered models. It is interesting that the positive periodic solutions in this paper are general positive functions, not e exponential functions, which generalizes and improves the existing results. We note that due to the symmetrical property of periodic solutions, the results of this paper provide a deeper understanding of the periodic behavior of biological populations. Two numerical examples show the effectiveness of our main results.

Abstract:In this paper, a monotone-iterative scheme is established for finding positive periodic solutions of a competition model of tumor-normal cell interaction. The model describes the evolution of a population with normal and tumor cells in a periodically changing environment. This population is under periodical chemotherapeutic treatment. Competition among the two kinds of cells is considered. The mathematical problem involves a coupled system of Lotka-Volterra together with periodically pulsed conditions. The existence of positive periodic solutions is proved by the monotone iterative technique and in a special case, the uniqueness of a periodic solution is obtained by proving that any two periodic solutions have the same average. Moreover, we also show that the system is permanent under the conditions which guarantee the existence of the periodic solution. Some computer simulations are carried out to demonstrate the main results.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a nonresident computer virus model and prove the existence of at least one positive periodic solution. The proposed model is based on a biological approach and is obtained by considering that all rates (rates that the computers are disconnected from the Internet, the rate that the computers are cured, etc) are time dependent real functions. Assuming that the initial condition is a positive vector and the coefficients are positive $\omega-$periodic and applying the topological degree arguments we deduce that generalized nonresident computer virus model has at least one positive $\omega-$periodic solution. The proof consists of two big parts. First, an appropriate change of variable which conserves the periodicity property and implies the positive behavior. Second, a reformulation of transformed system as an operator equation which is analyzed by applying the continuation theorem of the coincidence degree theory.

Abstract:An SIS model with periodic maximum infectious force, recruitment rate and the removal rate of the infectives has been investigated in this article. Sufficient conditions for the permanence and extinction of the disease are obtained. Furthermore, the existence and global stability of positive periodic solution are established. Finally, we present a procedure by which one can control the parameters of the model to keep the infectives stay eventually in a desired set.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to investigating a class of neutral-type integral differential equations arising in an epidemic model. By using Mawhin's continuation theorem and the properties of neutral-type operators, we obtain the existence conditions for positive periodic solutions of the considered neutral-type integral differential equation. Compared with previous results, the existence conditions in this paper are less restricted, thus extending the results of the existing literature. Finally, two examples are given to show the effectiveness and merits of the main results of this paper. Our results can be used to obtain the existence of a positive periodic solution to the corresponding non-neutral-type integral differential equation.

Abstract:In this article, we focus on stage-structured hematopoiesis model with time-dependent delays in an almost periodic environment. A threshold dynamic is characterized by basic reproduction ratio <math>R0</math>. By making use of skew-product semiflow approach, we show that the population is extinct if <math>R01</math>. The existence of a unique positive almost periodic solution is derived when <math>R0>1</math>, meanwhile, the global stability of the solution is verified under weaker conditions.

Abstract:In this paper, a discrete survival red blood cells model with delay is considered. Firstly, the stability of the equilibria of the system is investigated by analyzing the characteristic equation and then the existence of Neimark–Sacker and flip bifurcations are verified. Subsequent to that, the direction and stability of the Neimark–Sacker and flip bifurcations are determined by using the normal form theory and center manifold theorem.
