Evaluation knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and related training evaluation among parents／guardians of middle school students in Xuhui District, Shanghai

Abstract:Objective To understand the knowledge level of sexual and reproductive health ( SRH) among parents of middle school students, conduct relevant adolescent health knowledge training and evaluate the effect .Methods From September to December 2017, adolescent health -related training was conducted in junior high school ／high school in Xuhui District , Shanghai.The questionnaires before and after the training were used to understand the changes in parents 'SRH knowledge.Statistical analysis was performed using SAS 9.4 software.Results The study was conducted in six schools in Xuhui District , with 254 and 235 parents completing the questionnaire at baseline and after intervention .The results showed that at the baseline survey , the correct answer rate of "HIV-invasive system" and "Vulvar sputum is a symptom of sexually transmitted diseases " was mainly 40 %~70 %.The post-training survey showed that the correct answer rate was significantly improved .The score of passing the knowledge score (≥60) increased from 63.78 % at baseline to 77.87 % after training intervention; after controlling school , age group, family size, occupation, education level, and the relationship with the children surveyed ,the multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the training intervention significantly improved the parents'knowledge score, which was 2.53 times of the baseline (95 % CI: 1.60~3.99).Conclusion The study showed that the parents／guardians did possess certain SRH knowledge , still insufficient in some obscure points.Parents’／guardians’ SRH knowledge could be promoted through training .Health service agencies should pay attention to SRH knowledge education for parents of middle school students , and provide such training and counseling work to improve the mastery of SRH knowledge of parents of middle school students , so that young people can get more scientific and professional family education.
