Abstract:We present a complete three-loop calculation of the electric dipole moment of the $u$ and $d$ quarks in the Standard Model. For the $d$ quark, more relevant for the experimentally important neutron electric dipole moment, we find cancellations which lead to an order of magnitude suppression compared with previous estimates.

Abstract:Neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) due to single quark EDM and to the transition EDM is calculated in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. Assuming that the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix at the grand unification scale is the only source of CP violation, complex phases are induced in parameters of soft supersymmetry breaking at low energies. Chargino one-loop diagram is found to give the dominant contribution of the order of $10^{-27}\sim 10^{-29}\:e\cdot$cm for quark EDM, assuming the light chargino mass and the universal scalar mass to be $50$ GeV and $100$ GeV, respectively. Therefore the neutron EDM in this class of model is difficult to measure experimentally. Gluino one-loop diagram also contributes due to the flavor changing gluino coupling. The transition EDM is found to give dominant contributions for certain parameter regions.

Abstract:Contributions to the neutron's EDM, are calculated using a well-constrained Ansatz for the nucleon's Poincare' covariant Fadde'ev amplitude. The momentum-dependent quark dressing amplifies the contribution from the current-quarks' EDMs; and dressed-quark confinement and binding make distinguishable the effect of the two CP and T violating interactions: i gamma_5 sigma_{mu nu} (p_1-p_2)_nu and gamma_5 (p_1+p_2)_mu, where p_{1,2} are the current-quarks' momenta. The value of |d_n| obtained using the current-quark EDMs generated by a minimal three Higgs doublet model of spontaneous CP violation is close to the current experimental upper bound.

Abstract:The possible existence of a nonzero electric dipole moment (EDM) of the neutron is of great fundamental interest in itself and directly impacts our understanding of the nature of electro-weak and strong interactions. The experimental search for this moment has the potential to reveal new sources of T and CP violation and to challenge calculations that propose extensions to the Standard Model. The goal of the current experiment is to significantly improve the measurement sensitivity to the neutron EDM over what is reported in the literature. The experiment has the potential to either measure the magnitude of the neutron EDM or to lower the current experimental limit by two orders of magnitude. Achieving these objectives will have a major impact on our understanding of the physics of both weak and strong interactions.

Abstract:The electric dipole moments (EDMs) of the neutron and the electron are reviewed within the framework of the supersymmetric standard model (SSM) based on grand unified theories coupled to N=1 supergravity. Taking into account one-loop and two-loop contributions to the EDMs, we explore SSM parameter space consistent with experiments and discuss predicted values for the EDMs. Implications of baryon asymmetry of our universe for the EDMs are also discussed.

Abstract:In the supersymmetric standard model (SSM) the $W$-boson could have a non-vanishing electric dipole moment (EDM) through a one-loop diagram mediated by the charginos and neutralinos. Then the $W$-boson EDM induces the EDMs of the neutron and the electron. We discuss these EDMs, taking into consideration the constraints from the neutron and electron EDMs at one-loop level induced by the charginos and squarks or sleptons. It is shown that the neutron and the electron could respectively have EDMs of order of $10^{-26}e$cm and $10^{-27}e$cm, solely owing to the $W$-boson EDM. Since these EDMs do not depend on the values of SSM parameters for the squark or slepton sector, they provide less ambiguous predictions for CP violation in the SSM.

Nucleon Magnetic Moments Beyond the Perturbative Chiral Regime

Abstract:The quark mass dependence of nucleon magnetic moments is explored over a wide range. Quark masses currently accessible to lattice QCD, which lie beyond the regime of chiral perturbation theory (chiPT), are accessed via the cloudy bag model (CBM). The latter reproduces the leading nonanalytic behavior of chiPT, while modeling the internal structure of the hadron under investigation. We find that the predictions of the CBM are succinctly described by the simple formula mu(N)(m(pi)) = mu(N)((0))/(1 + am(pi) + beta m(pi)(2)), which reproduces the lattice data, as well as the leading nonanalytic behavior of chiPT. As this form also incorporates the anticipated Dirac moment behavior in the limit m(pi) --> infinity, it constitutes a powerful method for extrapolating lattice results to the physical mass regime. Using a global-symmetry-preserving truncation of QCD's Dyson-Schwinger equations, we compute the rho-meson's electric dipole moment (EDM), d_rho, as generated by the leading dimension-four and -five CP-violating operators and an example of a dimension-six four-quark operator. The two dimension-five operators; viz., quark-EDM and -chromo-EDM, produce contributions to d_rho whose coefficients are of the same sign and within a factor of two in magnitude. Moreover, should a suppression mechanism be verified for the theta-term in any beyond-Standard-Model theory, the contribution from a four-quark operator can match the quark-EDM and -chromo-EDM in importance. This study serves as a prototype for the more challenging task of computing the neutron's EDM.

Abstract:Considering the CP violating phases, we analyze the neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) in a CP violating supersymmetric extension of the standard model where baryon and lepton numbers are local gauge symmetries(BLMSSM). The contributions from the one loop diagrams and the Weinberg operators are taken into account. Adopting some assumptions on the relevant parameter space, we give the numerical results analysis. The numerical results for the neutron EDM can reach 1.05 × 10−25(e.cm), which is about the experimental upper limit.

Abstract:We calculate the chromoelectric dipole moment (CEDM) of d- and s-quark in the supersymmetric SO(10) model. CEDM is more efficient than quark electric dipole moment (EDM), in inducing the neutron EDM. New, strict constraints on parameters of the supersymmetric SO(10) model follow in this way from the neutron dipole moment experiments. As strict bounds are derived from the upper limits on the dipole moment of 199Hg.

Abstract:Standard model CP violation associated with the phase of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix is known to give small answers for the electric dipole moment (EDM) observables. Moreover, predictions for the EDMs of neutrons and diamagnetic atoms suffer from considerable uncertainties. We point out that the CP-violating observables associated with the electron spin (paramagnetic EDMs) are dominated by the combination of the electroweak penguin diagrams and ΔI=1/2 weak transitions in the baryon sector, and are calculable within chiral perturbation theory. The predicted size of the semileptonic operator C_{S} is 7×10^{-16}, which corresponds to the equivalent electron EDM d_{e}^{eq}=1.0×10^{-35} e cm. While still far from the current observational limits, this result is 3 orders of magnitude larger than previously believed.

Abstract:We calculate the neutron electric dipole form factor induced by the CP violating theta-term of QCD, within a perturbative chiral quark model which includes pion and kaon clouds. On this basis we derive the neutron electric dipole moment and the electron-neutron Schiff moment. From the existing experimental upper limits on the neutron electric dipole moment we extract constraints on the theta-parameter and compare our results with other approaches.

Abstract:We derive the electric and magnetic form factors of the neutron in the framework of a relativistic constituent quark model. Our parameter free prediction agrees well with a recent, accurate measurement. The relativistic features of the model and the specific form of the wave function are essential for the result. Comparisons are made to other models based on VMD, PQCD and QCD sum rules.

Abstract:In-medium nucleon electromagnetic form factors are calculated in the quark meson coupling model. The form factors are typically found to be suppressed as the density increases. For example, at normal nuclear density and Q2∼0.3 GeV2, the nucleon electric form factors are reduced by approximately 8% while the magnetic form factors are reduced by only 1–2%. These variations are consistent with current experimental limits but should be tested by more precise experiments in the near future.

Abstract:We study and analyze the electric dipole moments (EDMs) of neutron and heavy quarks c, t in a CP-violating (CPV) supersymmetric U(1) extension of the standard model called U(1)XSSM, whose local gauge group is U(1)X×SU(3)C×SU(2)L×U(1)Y. The contributions from the one loop diagrams and the Weinberg operators are taken into account with the new introduced CPV phases beyond the minimum supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) being non-zero. Our numerical results show that in U(1)XSSM the neutron EDM can be smaller than its experimental upper bound 1.8×10−26 e⋅cm without a small CPV phase. The magnitudes of EDMs of heavy quarks c and t can reach 10−24 e⋅cm and 10−22 e⋅cm respectively. This is favorable to the study of CPV.

Abstract:We review the status of the electric dipole moment (EDM) of neutron in the Standard Model (SM). The contributions of the strong and electroweak interactions are discussed seperately. In each case the structure of the Lagrangian and the sources of CP violation are specified, and calculational details are given subsequently. These two contributions to the neutron EDM exist in any extension of the SM including supersymmetry, two--doublet models as well as models with more than three generations of fermions. We do not discuss the EDM in such extensions; however, we briefly summarize their predictions with a detailed account of the related literature.

Abstract:We study medium modifications of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors in the vector meson dominance model. The in-medium vector meson masses are taken from a chiral SU(3) model. We find that the electric and magnetic form factors of the bound nucleon deviate considerably from those of the free nucleon. Our results are comparable to the results from the quark meson coupling model approach and are consistent with present experimental limits.

Abstract:We present lattice QCD results on the neutron tensor charges including, for the first time, a simultaneous extrapolation in the lattice spacing, volume, and light quark masses to the physical point in the continuum limit. We find that the "disconnected" contribution is smaller than the statistical error in the "connected" contribution. Our estimates in the modified minimal subtraction scheme at 2 GeV, including all systematics, are g_{T}^{d-u}=1.020(76), g_{T}^{d}=0.774(66), g_{T}^{u}=-0.233(28), and g_{T}^{s}=0.008(9). The flavor diagonal charges determine the size of the neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) induced by quark EDMs that are generated in many new scenarios of CP violation beyond the standard model. We use our results to derive model-independent bounds on the EDMs of light quarks and update the EDM phenomenology in split supersymmetry with gaugino mass unification, finding a stringent upper bound of d_{n}<4×10^{-28} e cm for the neutron EDM in this scenario.
