Abstract:We present a complete three-loop calculation of the electric dipole moment of the $u$ and $d$ quarks in the Standard Model. For the $d$ quark, more relevant for the experimentally important neutron electric dipole moment, we find cancellations which lead to an order of magnitude suppression compared with previous estimates.

Abstract:Using an effective field theory approach, we calculate the neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) in the minimal left-right symmetric model with both explicit and spontaneous CP violations. We integrate out heavy particles to obtain flavor-neutral CPviolating effective Lagrangian. We run the Wilson coefficients from the electroweak scale to the hadronic scale using one-loop renormalization group equations. Using the state-of-theart hadronic matrix elements, we obtain the nEDM as a function of right-handed W-boson mass and CP-violating parameters. We use the current limit on nEDM combined with the kaon-decay parameter ϵ to provide the most stringent constraint yet on the left-right symmetric scale $M_{w_{R}}> (10 \pm 3) {\rm TeV} $.

Abstract:The isovector time-reversal- and parity-violating pion–nucleon coupling g¯π(1) is uniquely sensitive to dimension-six interactions between right-handed light quarks and the Standard Model Higgs doublet that naturally arises in left-right symmetric models. Recent work has used the g¯π(1)-induced one-loop contribution to the neutron electric dipole moment dn, together with the present experimental dn bound, to constrain the CP-violating parameters of the left-right symmetric model. We show that this and related analyses are based on an earlier meson theory dn computation that is not consistent with the power-counting appropriate for an effective field theory. We repeat the one-loop calculation using heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory and find that the resulting dn sensitivity to g¯π(1) is suppressed, implying more relaxed constraints on the parameter space of the left-right symmetric model. Assuming no cancellations between this loop contribution and other contributions, such as the leading order EDM low-energy constant, the present limit on dn implies |g¯π(1)|≲1.1×10−10.

Abstract:We consider a model in which baryogenesis occurs at low scale, at a temperature below the electroweak phase transition. This model involves new diquark-type scalars which carry baryon number. Baryon number violation is introduced in the scalar potential, permitting Δ B=2 violating process involving Standard Model quarks while avoiding stringent proton decay constraints. Depending on their quantum number assignment, the diquark-type scalars can couple to either right or left handed quarks, or to both. We show that this model can provide a viable explanation of the baryon asymmetry of the universe provided that the coupling to left handed quarks are present. However, the coexistence of couplings to left and right handed quarks introduces important phenomenological constraints on the model, such as radiative contributions to quark masses and the generation of electric dipole moments for nuclei, which probe the CP even and CP odd products of the relevant couplings constants, respectively. We demonstrate that the strongest such constraints arise from electric dipole moment measurements of the neutron and ^199Hg. These constraints are sufficiently strong that, in the absence of an intricate flavor structure, baryogenesis must be dominated by the couplings of the new scalars to left handed quarks.
Large Contribution to the Neutron Electric Dipole Moment from a Dimension-Six Four-Quark Operator.

Abstract:In this paper we study the contribution of a dimension-six four-quark operator to the neutron electric dipole moment. We find that this contribution dominates over the one-loop contributions due to W(L)-W(R) mixing by at least one order of magnitude in left-right-symmetric models, and in diquark scalar models this contribution is two orders of magnitude larger than other contributions.

Abstract:Neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) due to single quark EDM and to the transition EDM is calculated in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. Assuming that the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix at the grand unification scale is the only source of CP violation, complex phases are induced in parameters of soft supersymmetry breaking at low energies. Chargino one-loop diagram is found to give the dominant contribution of the order of $10^{-27}\sim 10^{-29}\:e\cdot$cm for quark EDM, assuming the light chargino mass and the universal scalar mass to be $50$ GeV and $100$ GeV, respectively. Therefore the neutron EDM in this class of model is difficult to measure experimentally. Gluino one-loop diagram also contributes due to the flavor changing gluino coupling. The transition EDM is found to give dominant contributions for certain parameter regions.

Nucleon Magnetic Moments Beyond the Perturbative Chiral Regime

Abstract:The quark mass dependence of nucleon magnetic moments is explored over a wide range. Quark masses currently accessible to lattice QCD, which lie beyond the regime of chiral perturbation theory (chiPT), are accessed via the cloudy bag model (CBM). The latter reproduces the leading nonanalytic behavior of chiPT, while modeling the internal structure of the hadron under investigation. We find that the predictions of the CBM are succinctly described by the simple formula mu(N)(m(pi)) = mu(N)((0))/(1 + am(pi) + beta m(pi)(2)), which reproduces the lattice data, as well as the leading nonanalytic behavior of chiPT. As this form also incorporates the anticipated Dirac moment behavior in the limit m(pi) --> infinity, it constitutes a powerful method for extrapolating lattice results to the physical mass regime. Abstract:In this paper we study the strange quark contribution to the neutron electric dipole moment and compare with other contributions in multi-Higgs doublet models. We find that the strange quark contribution is significant because the strange quark color dipole moment is larger than that of the down (up) quark by a factor m(s)/m(d) (m(s)/m(u)). In the case of neutral Higgs it can be the dominant contribution to the neutron electric dipole moment.

Abstract:We present lattice QCD results on the neutron tensor charges including, for the first time, a simultaneous extrapolation in the lattice spacing, volume, and light quark masses to the physical point in the continuum limit. We find that the "disconnected" contribution is smaller than the statistical error in the "connected" contribution. Our estimates in the modified minimal subtraction scheme at 2 GeV, including all systematics, are g_{T}^{d-u}=1.020(76), g_{T}^{d}=0.774(66), g_{T}^{u}=-0.233(28), and g_{T}^{s}=0.008(9). The flavor diagonal charges determine the size of the neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) induced by quark EDMs that are generated in many new scenarios of CP violation beyond the standard model. We use our results to derive model-independent bounds on the EDMs of light quarks and update the EDM phenomenology in split supersymmetry with gaugino mass unification, finding a stringent upper bound of d_{n}<4×10^{-28} e cm for the neutron EDM in this scenario.

Abstract:We study and analyze the electric dipole moments (EDMs) of neutron and heavy quarks c, t in a CP-violating (CPV) supersymmetric U(1) extension of the standard model called U(1)XSSM, whose local gauge group is U(1)X×SU(3)C×SU(2)L×U(1)Y. The contributions from the one loop diagrams and the Weinberg operators are taken into account with the new introduced CPV phases beyond the minimum supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) being non-zero. Our numerical results show that in U(1)XSSM the neutron EDM can be smaller than its experimental upper bound 1.8×10−26 e⋅cm without a small CPV phase. The magnitudes of EDMs of heavy quarks c and t can reach 10−24 e⋅cm and 10−22 e⋅cm respectively. This is favorable to the study of CPV.

Abstract:Contributions to the neutron's EDM, are calculated using a well-constrained Ansatz for the nucleon's Poincare' covariant Fadde'ev amplitude. The momentum-dependent quark dressing amplifies the contribution from the current-quarks' EDMs; and dressed-quark confinement and binding make distinguishable the effect of the two CP and T violating interactions: i gamma_5 sigma_{mu nu} (p_1-p_2)_nu and gamma_5 (p_1+p_2)_mu, where p_{1,2} are the current-quarks' momenta. The value of |d_n| obtained using the current-quark EDMs generated by a minimal three Higgs doublet model of spontaneous CP violation is close to the current experimental upper bound.

Abstract:A bstract We perform a model-independent analysis of the magnetic and electric dipole moments of the muon and electron. We give expressions for the dipole moments in terms of operator coefficients of the low-energy effective field theory (LEFT) and the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT). We use one-loop renormalization group improved perturbation theory, including the one-loop matching from SMEFT onto LEFT, and one-loop lepton matrix elements of the effective-theory operators. Semileptonic four-fermion operators involving light quarks give sizable non-perturbative contributions to the dipole moments, which are included in our analysis. We find that only a very limited set of the SMEFT operators is able to generate the current deviation of the magnetic moment of the muon from its Standard Model expectation.

Abstract:The electric dipole moments (EDMs) of the neutron and the electron are reviewed within the framework of the supersymmetric standard model (SSM) based on grand unified theories coupled to N=1 supergravity. Taking into account one-loop and two-loop contributions to the EDMs, we explore SSM parameter space consistent with experiments and discuss predicted values for the EDMs. Implications of baryon asymmetry of our universe for the EDMs are also discussed.

Abstract:We compute the complete set of Higgs-mediated chargino-neutralino two-loop contributions to the electric dipole moments of the electron and neutron in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). We study the dependence of these contributions on the parameters that govern CP-violation in the MSSM gauge-gaugino-Higgs-Higgsino sector. We find that contributions mediated by the exchange of WH +/- and ZA(0) pairs, where H-+/- and A(0) are the charged and CP-odd Higgs scalars, respectively, are comparable to or dominate over those mediated by the exchange of neutral gauge bosons and CP-even Higgs scalars. We also emphasize that the result of this complete set of diagrams is essential for the full quantitative study of a number of phenomenological issues, such as electric dipole moment searches and their implications for electroweak baryogenesis.

Abstract:We show that any new interaction resulting in a chirally-enhanced contribution to the muon magnetic moment necessarily modifies the decay rate of the Higgs boson to muon pairs or generates the muon electric dipole moment. These three observables are highly correlated, and near future measurements of $h\to \mu^+\mu^-$ will carve an ellipse in the plane of dipole moments for any such model. Together with the future measurements of the electric dipole moment many models able to explain the muon g-2 anomaly can be efficiently tested.

Abstract:Considering the CP violating phases, we analyze the neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) in a CP violating supersymmetric extension of the standard model where baryon and lepton numbers are local gauge symmetries(BLMSSM). The contributions from the one loop diagrams and the Weinberg operators are taken into account. Adopting some assumptions on the relevant parameter space, we give the numerical results analysis. The numerical results for the neutron EDM can reach 1.05 × 10−25(e.cm), which is about the experimental upper limit.

Abstract:At an hadronic scale the effect of CP-violating interactions that typically appear in extensions of the Standard Model may be described by an effective Lagrangian, in which the operators are expressed in terms of lepton and partonic gluon and quark fields, and ordered by their mass dimension, k .geq. 4. Using a global-symmetry-preserving truncation of QCD's Dyson-Schwinger equations, we compute the rho-meson's electric dipole moment (EDM), d_rho, as generated by the leading dimension-four and -five CP-violating operators and an example of a dimension-six four-quark operator. The two dimension-five operators; viz., quark-EDM and -chromo-EDM, produce contributions to d_rho whose coefficients are of the same sign and within a factor of two in magnitude. Moreover, should a suppression mechanism be verified for the theta-term in any beyond-Standard-Model theory, the contribution from a four-quark operator can match the quark-EDM and -chromo-EDM in importance. This study serves as a prototype for the more challenging task of computing the neutron's EDM.

Abstract:In the supersymmetric standard model (SSM) the $W$-boson could have a non-vanishing electric dipole moment (EDM) through a one-loop diagram mediated by the charginos and neutralinos. Then the $W$-boson EDM induces the EDMs of the neutron and the electron. We discuss these EDMs, taking into consideration the constraints from the neutron and electron EDMs at one-loop level induced by the charginos and squarks or sleptons. It is shown that the neutron and the electron could respectively have EDMs of order of $10^{-26}e$cm and $10^{-27}e$cm, solely owing to the $W$-boson EDM. Since these EDMs do not depend on the values of SSM parameters for the squark or slepton sector, they provide less ambiguous predictions for CP violation in the SSM.

Abstract:For the neutron to have an electric dipole moment (EDM), the theory of nature must have T, or equivalently CP, violation. Neutron EDM is a very good probe of novel CP violation in beyond the standard model physics. To leverage the connection between measured neutron EDM and novel mechanism of CP violation, one requires the calculation of matrix elements for CP violating operators, for which lattice QCD provides a first principle method. In this paper, we review the status of recent lattice QCD calculations of the contributions of the QCD $\Theta$-term, the quark EDM term, and the quark chromo-EDM term to the neutron EDM.
