Abstract:Water swellable rubber(WSR) was prepared using the nitrile rubber and Self-made amphoteric copolymerization absorbent resin as the raw materials,the charcoal black and white charcoal black as reinforcing agent by the way of physical mix.The water absorbency,mechanical properties and environmental resistence of WSR was investigated.The results showed that the water absorbency and mechanical properties of the WSR can achieve the optimal value when the contain of absorbent resin was 40 phr,charcoal black was 20 phr and white charcoal black was 30 phr,and the rubber have certain performance for high temperature resistance,salt tolerance,acid and base resistance.

Abstract:Water swelling rubber(WSR) was prepared using the nitrile rubber(NBR) and self-made super absorbent resin(SAR) as the raw materials,the carbon black(CB) and white carbon black(WCB) as reinforcing agent by the way of physical mix.The influence of the amount of WCB and CB as well as types of CB on the water absorption and the mechanical properties of WSR were investigated by orthogonal array testing.The results show that the amount of WCB and CB has a significant impact on the WSR's absorption and mechanical properties,while the type of CB has little effect;the water absorption of WSR increases with the increasing amount of WCB and the decreasing amount of CB.The tensile strength and hardness of WSR increases with the increasing amount of WCB and CB,but elongation at break decreases.The optimal formula is WCB 40 phr,N220 CB 5 phr.

Abstract:A water-swellable NR(WSNR) was prepared by blending liquid starch-g-polymethyl acrylic acid(SPMAA) directly with NR latex based on emulsion blending method,and the influence of SPMAA and montmorillonite(MMT) on the water absorption and physical properties of WSNR vulcanizate was investigated.The results showed that as the SPMAA loading level increased,the water absorption rate and speed of WSNR vulcanizate increased,but the physical properties decreased;and as the crosslink density of SPMAA increased,the physical properties of WSNR vulcanizate improved li- nearly,but the water absorption rate and water retention decreased gradually.MMT provided WSNR vulcanizate better reinforcement and water absorption and retention.

Abstract:In this paper,accoding to percolation theory,through the analysis and calculation of the relationship between the water-swelling ratio at the equilibrium(Sw)of water swellable rubber self-made and the dosage of water absorbent resin,the critical ligament thickness Tc of water swellable rubber blends was confirmed.It was proved that the relationship between water-swelling ratio at the equilibrium(Sw)and composite sphere volume fractions(φs)of water swellable rubber blends prepared obeyed the scaling law of percolation theory on this basis,and the critical exponent values of different blends were obtained.The analysis of the correlation of the dosage of modified components in the water absorbent resin modified,the critical exponent value(g)and the balanced water swelling velocity of water swellable rubber,showed that,the more the critical exponent value was close to the theoretical value,the higher rate of Sw was,and indicated that,when the content of modified components was 30% and the dosage of water absorbent resin was 30 phr,the water-swelling ratio at the equilibrium(Sw)of water swellable rubber achieved 438%,the g was 0.44.The main reason was the introduction of modified components,it obviously improved the dispersion of water absorbent resin in the rubber matrix.

Abstract:A novel water swellable rubber (WSR) was prepared by blending chlorohydrin rubber (CHR) with crosslinked polyacrylate (CPA), poly(vinyl alcohol)-g-poly(butyl acrylate) (PVA-g-PBA), precipitated silica (PSA), and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). The amphiphilic graft copolymer PVA-g-PBA was incorporated as the compatibilizer between CHR and CPA. Water swellable-rubber With different grafting percentages and contents of PVA-g-PBA was investigated by SEM, mechanical measurement, and water-swelling tests. The results prove that. PVA-g-PBA increased interfacial cohesion between CHR and CPA before and after water swelling, decreased percentage loss by weight, and improved water-swelling behavior. Mechanical properties of WSR were significantly improved by PVA-g-PBA, especially for the blends of 5 phr PVA-9-PBA with G% = 151.7% before water swelling and that with G% = 340.4% after water swelling.

Abstract:Water swelling rubber(WSR)was prepared using the nitrile rubber(NBR)and acrylic super absorbent resin(SAR)with different particle size as the raw materials by the way of physical mix,and the mechanical properties and water absorbency of WSR was investigated.The results showed that the particle size of SAR directly affected the mechanical properties and water absorption of WSR.In the experimental range,the overall performance of WSR containing SAR B(100mesh)achieved the optimal value.And the tensile strength,elongation at break,Shore A hardness,mass expansion rate in tap water at room temperature was 8.536MPa,749.95%,77,404.82%,respectively.Through scanning electron microscopy(SEM)analysis of the water swelling rubber,it was found that the compatibility of SAR B and NBR was the best.

Abstract:In this study, the water swellable rubber DPNR-g-PAM-g-PSt (DPP) was prepared by emulsion polymerization in a tert-butyl hydroperoxide/tetraethylenepentamine initiation system using deproteinized natural rubber (DPNR) as the substrate, acrylamide (AM) and styrene (St) as the monomers, and Brij-35 as the emulsifier. On this basis, the bentonite (BT) was added for coblending. The successful grafting of AM and St was verified by particle size, contact angle, Fourier transform infrared, H-1-NMR, scanning electron microscope, and differential scanning calorimetry. The effects of blending with different amounts of bentonite on the mechanical properties and water absorption properties were discussed. The water swellable rubber DPP and DPP/BT prepared in this study have good prospects for applications in industry, construction, medical care, environmental protection, soil improvement, and nuclear waste treatment.

Water-swelling tests are conducted to investigate the microstructural changes and properties of both WSP and WSRP during water swelling. These data can be useful for the quantitative evaluation of water swelling performance of WSP and WSRP. The data presented herein was used for the article, titled "Experimental investigation of water swelling characteristics of polymer materials for tunnel sealing gasket" [1].

Abstract:Deproteinized natural rubber （DPNR) latex was selected as the substrate for the modified rubber, the grafting copolymerization of acrylic acid （AA) monomer on DPNR chain was achieved and a type of hydrophilic AA modified DPNR copolymer （DPNR-g-PAA) was prepared based on the free ra-dical emulsion graft copolymerization of allyl of rubber macromolecule chain and vinyl monomer in the presence of re-dox initiating system, and the molecular structure, cross-sectional morphology, and water-swelling properties of DPNR-g-PAA were characte-rized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and gravimetric method. The results showed that the water absorption rate of DPNR-g-PAA film as water-swellable rubber could reach 85.06%, and the surface moisture permeability of DPNR was significantly improved. Compared with the traditional process of physical blen-ding or solution grafting copolymerization, DPNR-g-PAA prepared by the free radical emulsion graft copolymerization had certain advantages.

Abstract:This paper investigates the waterproofing properties of two water swelling gasket materials, i.e. water-swelling rubber (WSR) and water-swelling polyurethane (WSP). Swelling tests were performed to measure the swelling ratios in both compression and free swelling states. A dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA) was employed to measure the storage moduli under different compression pressures and in different saline environments. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was performed to investigate the micro-damage morphology for both WSR and WSP. According to the test results, under the compression load of 1.0 MPa, the maximum axial swelling ratio (Sa) and free swelling ratio (Sw) of WSP was nearly four times and twice that of WSR, and the storage modulus E' of WSP was three times that of WSR. Also, the micro-cracks of WSP were much less and shallow than those of WSR under the same load condition and saline environments. Thus, the WSP specimen showed better water-proof performance than the WSR specimen under the complex submarine condition.

Abstract:The water absorption rubber with interpenetrating networks and montmorillnite was prepared with emulsion polymerization sample was characterized via TEM, ESEM and SEM. Its water absorption performance and mechanical performance after water absorption were examined. The results indicate that the rubber phase and resin phase are excellent decentralized and interpenetrated in prepared water absorption rubber. There is no phase separation phenomenon in the surface of sample after water absorption. The peeled montmorillnite sheet layers are dispersed in materials and increase mater'al strength. The water absorption process i slow, the absorption rate and time assume linear increase by degrees during, water absorption prophase. Under the investigation condition, it cost 40 d to reach the water absorption balance. As the temperature increased, the absorption rate increased gently. The modulus of elasticity(G') is more than 40000 Pa, and the modulus of viscosity(G ") is about 1000 Pa when the absorption rate is 6.4. The strain of sample with 25.8 absorption rate is around 80% when the sample is crushed.

Abstract:Most of the onshore water-flooding oilfield reservoirs have dominant seepage channels dominated by large pores and fractures, resulting in the oilfield being in a period of high water cut. The treatment of this problem needs to be solved by plugging. In the research process, the particle size and suspension of the water-swellable rubber particles were measured, and the effective time of the particles was evaluated; matching relationship. The results show that adding 2000 mg/L polymer to the water-swellable rubber particles can better improve the suspension performance; the performance of the polymer solution will not be affected during mixing and injection. In addition to strong swelling performance, it also has a certain strength and deformability, up to 10 MPa high via pressure and good thermal stability. Compared with the water and oil environment, the chemical degradation phenomenon is significant after soaking in alkaline conditions. Compared with the alkaline environment and the formation water environment, the final expansion ratio of the water-swellable rubber particles in the formation oil environment is as low as 2.5 times, which has the ability to block water. There was no oil blocking feature. When the crack width is too small, particles with excessively large particle sizes may accumulate at the injection end of the core, resulting in failure to inject into the core and fail to achieve the plugging effect. For the treatment of large, fractured pores, it is possible to first inject particles with a particle size of 0.250–0.420 mm to block areas with high permeability, and then inject particles with a particle size of 0.150–0.250 mm to block areas with low permeability.

Abstract:Considering the poor wet-skid resistance (WSR) and facile abscission of natural rubber (NR) when applied in ligation band, a new ligation rubber ring based on NR was prepared when used fumed silica as reinforcing agent and glycerol-gelatin as processing agent, which met with the application of ligation bands in mechanical property. Meanwhile, the property of WSR of the ligation rubber ring was characterized by stress, stress relaxation, surface roughness, micro-hardness and dynamic viscoelasticity. The results showed that the stretching stress of NR on 500% was 6.12 MPa, surface micro-roughness (Ra) was 9.754, and excellent micro-hardness and tanδ. Besides, the coefficient of maximum static friction on wet surface was 2.6. All above results indicated that a good wet-skid resistance was obtained in the new ligation rubber ring.

Abstract:This paper deals with the mechanism of waste crumb rubber modified asphalt through simulating the swelling of rubber in asphalt using SBR sheet instead of waste rubber powder. Four groups analysis (SARA – saturates, aromatics, resins and asphaltines), XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy) and DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimeter) were used to characterize the structure and properties of asphalt and rubber in swelling experiment. The results reveal that the swelling of rubber in asphalt moved from a fast-growing process then level off to the equilibrium, and rubber absorbed only the light components in asphalt. The amount of asphalt components affects the properties of asphalt. During the swelling process, the amount of light constituents decreased accompanied by an increased softening point and decreased ductility and penetration.

Abstract:This study focuses on absorption and permeation of deionized water and typical aqueous solutions of high-temperature vulcanized (HTV) silicone rubber (SR). The influences of some parameters, such as, filler (fumed silica and aluminum hydroxide) characteristics, solution concentration, temperature, and tensile stress on absorption of water/solution were investigated. Results indicate that tensile stress accelerates water and solution uptake of HTV SR. The dependence of water and solution permeation coefficients of HTV SR on two important parameters, i.e., filler characteristics and the HTV SR sample thickness, were investigated. Permeation coefficient was found to be inversely proportional to SR thickness. The possible influencing mechanism of tensile stress on water and solution absorption and that of filler characteristics on water absorption and permeation were discussed. Moreover, the free volume, which is filled by the absorbed water, plays an important role in water absorption and permeation.
