Design Management based on Morphological Categories——A Case Study of Residential Land Use Control in Guangzhou Old City

Abstract:Morphological category refers to the spatial division and classification based on morphological factors in urban morphology.There is a lack of spatial control and management in the detailed-control planning system in most Chinese cities.To solve the problem,this paper introduces a design control framework based on morphological categories and applies it to the residential land use planning in Guangzhou Old City.As an empirical study,the paper suggests that there are four steps in morphological control system,including identification of morphological categories,designation of morphological control units,extraction of morphological control factors and formulation of morphological module.The morphological control process can be perfectly integrated with modern planning management and control system,which will improve the process and quality of planning and management of thousands of old cities in China.
