Competence of College Teachers:O*NET Job Analysis Study

Abstract:Three O*NET questionnaires are used to explore the work skills,work styles and work values that are important to the position of Chinese college teachers.Data analyses of 405 participants indicate:a) basic(cognitive) skills,complex problem solving skills and social skills are important skills for college teachers;practical intelligence(creativity orientation),independence,achievement orientation and conscientiousness are important work styles for college teachers;relationships,independence and working conditions are important work values for college teachers.b) cognitive skills,creativity orientation,independence,achievement orientation and conscientiousness are significantly associated with the work performance of college teachers and probably the important competence of college teachers.c) the work performance of college teachers is significantly associated with their satisfaction with their working conditions.
