Abstract:In view of troublesome problems influencing upon the safety of lowgrade bituminous coal firing boilers with hot air for sending pulverized coal and centralized allocatioin of the primary air, such as firecarrying in the primary air jet orifice, and slagging on the waterwall in zone of burners etc., occured after enhancement of volatile and heat value in the coal, a scheme for solving the said problems by admixing exhaust gas has been put forward. The results of design calculation combined with typical boilers, as well as test and study on the admixer of exhaust gas and hot air show that the exhaust gas can be admixed with hot air in a large proportional range, making the implementation of the said scheme to be possible.

Abstract:According to the experiment research of anthracite coal mixed burning in boiler of Huadian Qingdao Power Generation Corporation Limited,the anthracite coal,lean coal and black coal with low-volatile matter mixed burning scheme was defined initially.The burning safety and economical efficiency of anthracite coal blended with different coals and at different blending proportion or under different mixed burning mode were comprehensively compared,and an optimized coal blending scheme was proposed,then the blended coal brand of Huadian Qingdao Power Generation Corporation Limited was formed finally.

Abstract:In view of lower rate of economizing fuel oil on the micro-oil ignition technology retrofit to face-fired boiler,the scheme of the starting mode without injecting fuel oil gun was proposed.Based on calculating the temperature rise of coal-air flow of turbulent burners,and used the micro-oil igniting technology,the cold-boiler starting process without injecting fuel oil on 330MW unit boiler had processed.The oil saving rate of bituminous coal reaches to 94.6%,which has considerably improved relative to other oil saving technology.

Abstract:A wall-hung gas boiler was innovatively proposed and designed in this paper. Wa-ter-cooling premixed combustion and enhanced condensation heat exchange tech-nology were adopted in the boiler. The extruded aluminum plate-fin structure was adopted in the burner and condensing heat exchanger. Experiment and numerical simulation studies were conducted on the flow, combustion, and heat exchange characteristics of the boiler. The effect of the fin structure, excess air coefficient, heat load, and water-cooling temperature on the thermal performance of the boiler was analyzed. The results showed that reliable ignition, stable combustion, uni-form flame distribution, and low pollutant emissions can be achieved in the wall-hung gas boiler. Affected by burning intensity and internal flue gas re-circulation, when the burner plate-fin gap was 1.63 mm, the flame was the shortest and the NOx emissions were the lowest. Under this fin condition, ultra-high efficiency and ultra-low emissions can be achieved in the boiler with a low excess air coeffi-cient. When the excess air coefficient was 1.3, the NOx emissions were less than 30 mg/m3 at the heat load of 4-14 kW, and the thermal efficiency can reach up to 102.8% at the rated load of 14 kW. Within the scope of the experiment, the NOx emissions changed little with the water-cooling temperature. At the temperature of 333 K, there was still a great NOx emission reduction effect.

Abstract:An air-staged and low NOx emission combustion technology was studied with a SG–420/13.7–W756 boiler. Data about the effects of nitrogen oxide emissions were obtained. The influence of the technology on the efficiency of the boiler and the slagging condition was analyzed, and methods for slagging prevention, such as low NOx burner and air surrounding fuel technology were used to draw the main conclusions as follows: i) With the adjustment of the air proportion among different injectors, the nitrogen oxide emission of the boiler is reduced to 379mg/m3@6%O2 achieving a removal rate of 37.8%. ii) The efficiency of the boiler is increased by the operation with low oxygen concentration. iii) The air-staged and Low NOx Combustion does not bring about slagging problem.

Abstract:Multi-injection multi-staging combustion technology was designed to provide high boiler efficiency together with low pollutant emissions when employing hard-to-burn coal, and showed good application prospects. In this technology, to achieve the first staged air and more flexible combustion regulation on the arches, the secondary air employs a more complicated distribution surrounding the coal/air flows. This design concept significantly affects the flow and combustion characteristics of the actual boiler. Elucidating the underlying mechanisms by which the various secondary air parameters affect the boiler operation requires a comprehensive analysis of the secondary air distribution on the arches. In this work, small-scale cold modeling tests combined with industrial-scale trials using two actual 600 MWe down-fired boilers were conducted. The results show that the secondary air distribution can significantly affect the near-burner flow and mixing as well as the decay of the downward airflow velocity. High velocity secondary air, especially the secondary air surrounding the fuel-rich flow, evidently promotes the advanced mixing of fuel-rich and fuel-lean flows. Increasing the secondary air flux around the fuel-rich flow and raising the secondary air velocity decrease the pulverized coal heating rate, while a decreased inner secondary air velocity advances the coal ignition. Adjusting the secondary air also greatly affects the downward flame depth and the unburnt coal proportion in the near wall region of the furnace hopper, such that the flame kernel location and the temperatures near the hopper wall are modified. In addition, NOx formation can be accelerated by a high secondary air flux near the fuel-rich flow or a large contact area between the secondary air and the fuel-rich flow.

Abstract:NOx has become one of the main culprits causing the global greenhouse effect, and excessive emissions of NOx can also cause some common diseases in humans. The denitrification of power plant boilers has been 100% popularized, and their denitrification efficiency has reached national and local environmental requirements (such as Selective Catalytic Reduction, SCR). However, small gas boilers, due to their use of relatively clean fuels, have relatively low NOx emissions. But, local environmental protection departments have weak supervision of small clean fuel boilers, and these equipment generally lack specialized denitrification equipment, resulting in NOx emissions still not meeting standards. In addition, there are many small gas boilers, resulting in high total emissions. The fully premixed burner of a small gas boiler has the effect of suppressing NOx production during combustion. This study designed a surface porous burner with different combustion intensities at different positions. The experimental results and numerical calculations show that for horizontal combustion, the burner has different intake rates at different axial positions, enabling uniform combustion throughout the entire furnace, with NOx emissions below 30 mg/Nm3. The numerical simulation results show that the NOx emissions are 26.6 mg/m3. The calculated results are in good agreement with the actual situation. The generation of NOx is mainly thermal, with a maximum error of 15.4% between the calculated and experimental values. The difference between the calculated value of O and the experimental one is 5.1%. It can be seen that numerical simulation has considerable accuracy.

Abstract:In traditional pulverized coal tangential firing boiler design, the uniform air distributing burner is always adopted to burn bituminite with fine ignitability, so that good furnace flame coefficient of fullness and high coal powder burn-off rate can be obtained. But such assemblage also brings too concentrated heat release rate in burners' zone which leads to slagging while burning clinkering coal, the local high temperature zone and uniform air distribution also lead to high NOx emission. In today's China, there are lots of tangential burning boilers without overfire air to decrease NOx emission, to add OFA on the top of burner group is a difficult and expensive work which may also brings other problems. In this paper, an idea that the upper primary air is moved to lower location to provide room for OFA is developed, using the concentrated primary air arrangement plan combined with the horizontal fuel rich-lean combustion technology, the altitude and horizontal directions' two-region combustion is formed to make boiler slagging-prevent and low NOx release. The test and numerical simulation are used to prove the scheme's feasibility, through analyzing the heat release rate in the burners' zone, the principle of choosing various zone's air excess coefficient is determined. Finally, the hot test illustrates the feasibility of the scheme.

Abstract:Gas boilers exhibit thermal inefficiency and unsatisfying pollutant emissions. In this study, numerical simulations were conducted to examine the effect of humidified oxygen-enriched air on methane combustion in a furnace and the effects of different premixed ratios of air on the temperature field inside the furnace, intermediate product OH groups, component concentration distribution, and pollutants. Although humidification of ambient air effectively reduced the flame center temperature and mass concentration of the NOx generated during combustion in the furnace, the highest growth rate of CO concentration at the furnace outlet was 18.6%. Humidification of oxygen-enriched air increased the center temperature and outlet NO concentration of the furnace compared with those during no oxygen enrichment, but the outlet CO concentration showed a decreasing trend, with the highest decrease rate of 34.6%. This study determined an optimal CO–air premix ratio with a moisture concentration of 50 g/kg dry air and an oxygen concentration of 23%. The air humidification and oxygen enrichment technology proposed in this article provides a technical reference for low nitrogen transformation of existing gas boilers.

Abstract:<p>Utility boilers consume a lot of fuel oil during the startup and low-load operation, which leads to the rise of power generation costs and environmental pollution problems. A finned shell-and-tube heat exchanger is proposed to preheat pulverized coal and air flow using thermal oil. Pilot-scale heat exchange tests were carried out to study the effects of the oil temperature, air temperature, air velocity, oil flow rate, coal-air ratio on the preheating performance and resistance properties of the system. Meanwhile, Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) numerical simulations were conducted. The tests verified the technical feasibility of the heat exchanger using thermal oil to preheat the primary air. The proposed preheating process is conducive to environmental protection and energy-saving. The test results show that when the coal-to-air ratio is 0.15, the 190 ℃ of thermal oil can preheat the pulverized coal and air flow from 65.2 ℃ to above 115 ℃. This preheating process will improve the ignition performance of the pulverized coal and air flow, which is favorable for startup and stable operation of the pulverized coal boiler, particularly when the boiler load is low.</p>

Abstract:This paper described the characteristic of air dynamic field distribution situation in a six corners tangentially boiler after the retrofit by using the air gradation combustion technology. The result is shown that, it can be concluded that the air gradation combustion technology is useful to ensure the lignite steady combustion under lower load, control the emission of NO x and reduce the slagging phenomenon in a six corners tangentially boiler.

Abstract:The air-staged combustion technology has been adopted in design of a newly constructed 670 t/h coal-water slurry(CWS) fired boiler.In order to understand the influence of said technology upon the air distribution mode,the coefficient of excess air,the mode of putting coal-water slurry guns into operation,the burnout efficiency of CWS,the slagging condition,and the NOx emission,a large amount of tests has been carried out.Results show that the operation of said boiler is under a load of 530 t/h after adopting the air-staged combustion technology,through adjustment of the excess air coefficient and the air distribution mode,the NOx emission reaches 380 mg/m3(standard condition,similarly hereinafter),the coefficient of excess air has to be controlled at about 1.2,at the same time,the adjustment of air distribution can ensure low NOx emission as well as stable and effective combustion,but without substantial change in burnout and slagging of CWS.
Combustion Characteristics and Analysis of the Energy Efficiency of a Coal-fired Boiler Burning Coal Diluted and Mixed with Dried Sludge

Abstract:For a construction project of a 420 t/h tangential pulverized coal-fired boiler,analyzed was the feasibility of the pulverized coal-fired boiler to burn coal diluted and mixed with dried sludge from such characteristics as ignition,steady combustion and slagging etc.and the exergy balance analytic method was used to analyze the efficiency of the boiler and the exergy loss of various heating surfaces when burning coal mixed and diluted with sludge in various proportions and water contents.The research results show that when the proportion of sludge mixed and diluted is less than 1:4,the sludge-coal blended combustion characteristics are similar to coal and meanwhile the exergy efficiency of the mixture is slightly higher than that of coal.After the proportion of sludge mixed and diluted is greater than 1:4,the ash melting point of the mixture sample will drop obviously,tend to slag conspicuously and the exhaust gas loss will increase remarkably.The foregoing can offer a necessary experimental and theoretical basis for analyzing the feasibility of a power plant to burn coal diluted and mixed with dried sludge.

Abstract:Taking the primary air enrichment and preheating(PRP) burner as an example,it is shown that high temperature air combustion with high combustion stability and low NO_x emission can be realized on the pulverized coal boiler by use of the high temperature reflow flue gas to rapidly preheat the primary air of low air-coal ratio.The industrial tests and applications indicate that the PRP burner has several characteristics,such as good adaptation to coal ranks,high combustion stability at low load and low NO_x emission.It can effectively control the preheat of the primary air and rapidly preheat the pulverized coal to near igniting point before reaching the burner nozzle due to its specially designed preheat chamber.PRP burner is a practicable burner to realize high temperature combustion in pulverized coal fired boilers.

Abstract:For a better utilization of Zhundong coals which have high fouling and slagging tendency, the slag-tap boiler has attracted much attention. To avoid the high sensible heat loss of discharged molten slag, an air-cooling waste heat recovery system is proposed. Energy and economic analyses are conducted to investigate the effectiveness of heating the desulfurized flue gas by hot air and the influences of partially substituting the secondary air by hot air on heat transfer of air preheater and thermal efficiency of boiler. A case study is performed by referring to a typical 50 MW cyclone boiler with nine types of low fusion temperature coals. The results show that for coals with low ash content, the temperature increment of desulfurized flue gas can be over 7 ℃. While for coals with high ash content, the flue gas temperature can be heated to more than 70 ℃, and the surplus hot air can be sent to the furnace. When the hot air is introduced to partially substitute the secondary air, an instantaneous impact on the air preheater will give rise to a decrement of quantity of heat transferred and increments of temperatures of exit flue gas and hot secondary air. The variations of these thermodynamic parameters become smaller with increasing hot air temperature. After introduction of hot air, the thermal efficiency of boiler can increase, resulting in a decrease of fuel consumption rate. In addition, the heating surface area of air preheater can be reduced.

Abstract:The traditional coal-fired boiler used for heating has a low efficiency and emits large amounts of pollutants. Thus, the use of natural-gas-fired boilers has become a popular method for heating all over the world owing to their cleanliness and high efficiency. Condensing domestic gas boilers have higher thermal efficiency than traditional boilers. However, they waste a large amount of heat. Supply-air humidification provides a beneficial effect on the efficiency of heat recovery, but the effects of supply-air humidification on the thermal performance of combustion and the amount of heat recovered from the latent heat remain unclear. Moreover, the effect of air humidification on pollutant emission must be further investigated. In this study, an experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of supply-air humidification on the thermal efficiency and emissions of a domestic boiler. The results indicated that supply-air humidification is beneficial for the improvement of the overall boiler efficiency. The maximum improvements in the boiler efficiency were 3.7% and 3.8% when the excess-air ratios were 1.3 and 1.1, respectively. Supply-air humidification had a significant effect on the condensing heat-exchange process. The maximum increments of the condensed water were 20.2% and 23.47% when the excess-air ratios were 1.3 and 1.1, respectively. When the excess-air ratio was 1.3 and the temperature and relative humidity of the supply air were 41.22 degrees C and 12.06%, respectively, almost half of the latent heat from the flue gas was recovered. Supply-air humidification reduced the concentration of NOx to a value within the emission limit. However, the amount of humidification needs to be controlled within a reasonable range to avoid massive generation of CO. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
