On the Localization of the Science of Public Administration by Four Scholars

Abstract:The science of public administration has aroused more and more interest of the Chinese scholars in recent years,which is reasonably called "a rising discipline" in China by some people.However,it should be acknowledged that most works on public administration published in China are the translation or interpretation of the research findings abroad rather than a systematic study of China's reality.The emergence of the science of public administration in China reveals the fact that it can meet the actual needs of the reform and development of China's public administration.Nevertheless,the final goal of studying public administration is to guide and promote the reform and construction of China's public administration.Though the theories on public administration from abroad are very good for reference,their models,contents and methods are not all suitable for China.Thus,there emerges the problem of how to make the science of public administration localized or acculturated.With this as the point of departure,the editor of this journal has invited four scholars to air their views on it.
