Abstract:In this paper, we establish an asymptotic formula for the twisted second moment of $L$-functions associated with Hecke--Maass cusp forms for $\rm SL(3,\mathbb{Z})$, and further deduce a weighted zero-density estimate for these $L$-functions in the spectral aspect which may have important applications in other problems.

Abstract:We combine the relative trace formula with analytic methods to obtain zero density estimate for $L$-functions in various families of automorphic representations for $\mathrm{GL}(m)$. Applications include strong bounds for the average analytic rank of these $L$-functions at the central point and average equidistribution results for the imaginary parts of the zeros.

Low-Lying Zeros of a Thin Family of Automorphic $L$-Functions in the Level Aspect

Abstract:We calculate the one-level density of thin subfamilies of a family of Hecke cuspforms formed by twisting the forms in a smaller family by a character. The result gives support up to 1, conditional on GRH, and we also find several of the lower-order main terms. In addition, we find an unconditional result that has only slightly lower support. A crucial step in doing so is the establishment of an on-average version of the Weil bound that applies to twisted Kloosterman sums. Moreover, we average over these thin subfamilies by running over the characters in a coset, and observe that any amount of averaging at all is enough to allow us to get support greater than 1 and thus distinguish between the SO(even) and SO(odd) symmetry types. Finally, we also apply our results to nonvanishing problems for the families studied.

Abstract:In this article, we study the density conjecture of Katz and Sarnak for $L$-functions of adélic Hilbert modular forms and their convolutions. In particular, under the generalised Riemann hypothesis, we establish several instances supporting the conjecture and extending the works of Iwaniec-Luo-Sarnak and many others. For applications, we obtain an upper bound for the average order of $L$-functions of Hilbert modular forms at $s=\frac{1}{2}$ as well as a positive proportion of non-vanishing of certain Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions.

Low-lying zeros of a large orthogonal family of automorphic $L$-functions

Abstract:We study a new orthogonal family of $L$-functions associated with holomorphic Hecke newforms of level $q$, averaged over $q \asymp Q$. To illustrate our methods, we prove a one level density result for this family with the support of the Fourier transform of the test function being extended to be inside $(-4, 4)$. The main techniques developed in this paper will be useful in developing further results for this family, including estimates for high moments, information on the vertical distribution of zeros, as well as critical line theorems.

Abstract:Text We compute the one-level density of zeros of order ℓ Dirichlet L-functions over function fields F q [ t ] for ℓ = 3 , 4 in the Kummer setting ( q ≡ 1 ( mod ℓ ) ) and for ℓ = 3 , 4 , 6 in the non-Kummer setting ( q ≢ 1 ( mod ℓ ) ). In each case, we obtain a main term predicted by Random Matrix Theory (RMT) and lower order terms not predicted by RMT. Abstract:In 2016, Fei \cite{fei2016application} established a bound on the Siegel zeros for real primitive Dirichlet characters modulo $q$, assuming the weak Hardy-Littlewood conjecture. Building on Fei's work, Jia \cite{jia2022conditional} demonstrated the same bound using a stronger version of the Hardy-Littlewood conjecture. In this paper, we present a slightly simplified approach to reprove their results.

Abstract:Meher et al. [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 147 (2019)] have recently established that $L-$functions attached to certain cusp forms of half-integral weight have infinitely many zeros on the critical line. Kim [J. Numb. Th. 253 (2023)] obtained analogous results for $L-$functions attached to cusp forms twisted by an additive character $e\left(\frac{p}{q}n\right)$, $\frac{p}{q}\in\mathbb{Q}$. We extend the results of these authors by giving a lower bound for the number of such zeros. We start by developing a variant of a method of de la Val\'ee Poussin which seems to have interest as it avoids the evaluation of exponential sums. We finish the paper with an improvement of our first estimate by using Lekkerkerker's variant of the Hardy-Littlewood method.

Abstract:The Katz-Sarnak density conjecture states that the scaling limits of the distributions of zeros of families of automorphic $L$-functions agree with the scaling limits of eigenvalue distributions of classical subgroups of the unitary groups $U(N)$. This conjecture is often tested by way of computing particular statistics, such as the one-level density, which evaluates a test function with compactly supported Fourier transform at normalized zeros near the central point. Iwaniec, Luo, and Sarnak studied the one-level densities of cuspidal newforms of weight $k$ and level $N$. They showed in the limit as $kN \to\infty$ that these families have one-level densities agreeing with orthogonal type for test functions with Fourier transform supported in $(-2,2)$. Exceeding $(-1,1)$ is important as the three orthogonal groups are indistinguishable for support up to $(-1,1)$ but are distinguishable for any larger support. We study the other family of ${\rm GL}_2$ automorphic forms over $\mathbb{Q}$: Maass forms. To facilitate the analysis, we use smooth weight functions in the Kuznetsov formula which, among other restrictions, vanish to order $M$ at the origin. For test functions with Fourier transform supported inside $\left(-2 + \frac{2}{2M+1}, 2 - \frac{2}{2M+1}\right)$, we unconditionally prove the one-level density of the low-lying zeros of level 1 Maass forms, as the eigenvalues tend to infinity, agrees only with that of the scaling limit of orthogonal matrices.

On the Density of Low Lying Zeros of a Large Family of Automorphic $L$-functions

Abstract:Under the generalized Riemann Hypothesis (GRH), Baluyot, Chandee, and Li nearly doubled the range in which the density of low lying zeros predicted by Katz and Sarnak is known to hold for a large family of automorphic $L$-functions with orthogonal symmetry. We generalize their main techniques to the study of higher centered moments of the one-level density of this family, leading to better results on the behavior near the central point. Numerous technical obstructions emerge that are not present in the one-level density. Averaging over the level of the forms and assuming GRH, we prove the density predicted by Katz and Sarnak holds for the $n$-th centered moments for test functions whose Fourier transform is compactly supported in $(-\sigma, \sigma)$ for $\sigma~=~\min\left\{3/2(n-1), 4/(2n-\mathbf{1}_{2\nmid n})\right\}$. For $n=3$, our results improve the previously best known $\sigma=2/3$ to $\sigma=3/4$. We also prove the two-level density agrees with the Katz-Sarnak density conjecture for test functions whose Fourier transform is compactly supported in $\sigma_1 = 3/2$ and $\sigma_2 = 5/6$, respectively, extending the previous best known sum of supports $\sigma_1 + \sigma_2 = 2$. This work is the first evidence of an interesting new phenomenon: by taking different test functions, we are able to extend the range in which the Katz-Sarnak density predictions hold. The techniques we develop can be applied to understanding quantities related to this family containing sums over multiple primes.

On the Real Zeroes of Half-integral Weight Hecke Cusp Forms

Abstract:We examine the distribution of zeroes of half-integral weight Hecke cusp forms on the manifold $\Gamma_0(4)\backslash\mathbb H$ near a cusp at infinity. In analogue of the Ghosh-Sarnak conjecture for classical holomorphic Hecke cusp forms, one expects that almost all of the zeroes sufficiently close to this cusp lie on two vertical geodesics $\Re(s)=-1/2$ and $\Re(s)=0$ as the weight tends to infinity. We show that, for $\gg_\varepsilon K^2/(\log K)^{3/2+\varepsilon}$ of the half-integral weight Hecke cusp forms in the Kohnen plus subspace with weight bounded by a large constant $K$, the number of such "real" zeroes grows almost at the expected rate. We also obtain a weaker lower bound for the number of real zeroes that holds for a positive proportion of forms. One of the key ingredients is the asymptotic evaluation of averaged first and second moments of quadratic twists of modular $L$-functions.

The $1$-Level Density for Zeros of Hecke $L$-Functions of Imaginary Quadratic Number Fields of Class Number $1$

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{K} = \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-d})$ be an imaginary quadratic number field of class number $1$ and $\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{K}}$ its ring of integers. We study a family of Hecke $L$-functions associated to angular characters on the non-zero ideals of $\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{K}}$. Using the powerful Ratios Conjecture (RC) due to Conrey, Farmer, and Zirnbauer, we compute a conditional asymptotic for the average $1$-level density of the zeros of this family, including terms of lower order than the main term in the Katz-Sarnak Density Conjecture coming from random matrix theory. We also prove an unconditional result about the $1$-level density, which agrees with the RC prediction when our test functions have Fourier transforms with support in $(-1,1)$.

Abstract:We give a conditional lower bound on the number of non-trivial simple zeros for the Dedekind zeta function $\zeta_{K}(s)$, where $K$ is a quadratic number field. The conditional result is given by assuming a Lindelöf on average (in the $L^{6}$ sense) for both $\zeta(s)$ and $L(s,\chi)$, which can be seen as a stronger version of Conrey-Gonek-Ghosh's \cite{c} conditional result. This improves upon the work of Wu and Zhao \cite{Zhao}, who had a similar result.

Abstract:Let $L(s,\pi)=\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\lambda_{\pi}(n)n^{-s}$ be an $L$-function that satisfies a weak form of the generalized Ramanujan conjecture. We prove that large partial sums of $\lambda_{\pi}(n)$ strongly repel the low-lying zeros of $L(s,\pi)$ away from the critical line. Our results extend and quantitatively improve preceding work of Granville and Soundararajan.

Abstract:In this note we define anticyclotomic p-adic measures attached to a finite set of places S above p, a modular elliptic curve E over a general number field F and a quadratic extension K/F. We study the exceptional zero phenomenon that arises when E has multiplicative reduction at some place in S. In this direction, we obtain p-adic Gross-Zagier formulas relating derivatives of the corresponding p-adic L-functions to the extended Mordell-Weil group of E. Our main result uses the recent construction of plectic points on elliptic curves due to Fornea and Gehrmann and generalizes their main result. We obtain a formula that computes the r-th derivative of the p-adic L-function, where r is the number of places in S where E has multiplicative reduction, in terms of plectic points and Tate periods of E.
