Abstract:<p>As a new type of spatial modulation Fourier transform spectroscopy, spatial heterodyne spectroscopy (SHS) has the advantages of high resolution, high etendue, real-time detection, no band limitation, and no moving parts, so it has been rapidly development and widely used in the fields of trace components (OH) in atmosphere, environmental gas, chemical warfare agents, ores, industrial wastewater, pesticide residues and other fields, and has become a hot spot in related research fields. To sure that relevant practitioners have a systematics understand the development and future trend of the SHS, this paper firstly summarizes the existing spectral detection technology, secondly introduce the basic principles and research progress of SHS, thirdly introduce the basic principles and research progress of Spatial Heterodyne Raman Spectroscopy (SHRS), fourth introduce the basic principles and research progress of Planar Waveguide Spatial Heterodyne Spectroscopy (PW-SHS), fifth summarizes the influencing factors of SHS and the corresponding data processing methods, finally explores the development trend of SHS.</p>

Correction of Spatial Heterodyne Interferogram Based on Frequency Domain Analysis

Abstract:Spatial heterodyne spectroscopy (SHS) is a new spectroscopic technique which can achieve high spectral resolution. The basic concepts of spatial heterodyne spectrometer are described. The two-dimensional (2D) interference fringe distortion is due to asymmetry of double optical path, which caused by the errors from optical systems of the interferometer. According to the characteristics of SHS interference fringe distortions, a SHS interferogram correction method based on frequency domain analysis is presented. The corrected coordinate of fast Fourier transform (FFT) frequency domain signal obtained from monochromatic source calibration. Then the calibration curve fitting from corrected coordinate can be used for correction of SHS interferogram. Spectral experiments are operated on the SHS instrument by monochromatic source and Gaussian continuous spectrum source. The experimental results show that the correction method can effectively remove interference of system asymmetry, correct 2D SHS interferogram and improve spectral inversion accuracy of spatial heterodyne spectrometer.

Abstract:Spectroscopy has a long history. The theory of is difficult for students to understand. So we want to improve the traditional teaching to some way of interesting experience combined with historical knowledge, practical application and development frontiers. We make use of all kinds of resources to get vivid information of big events of spectroscopy development in order to show students the specific process of some phenomenon. Meanwhile, students will be suggested to read all kinds of latest papers relevantly to obtain much more information about this discipline. Both in class and in lab, we lead students to do some very useful experiments and give them guidance. Through this practice, they will understand the theory much more deeply, especially they will know how to solve the problems in research.

Abstract:With the maturation of satellite technology, Hyperspectral Remote Sensing (HRS) platforms have developed from the initial ground-based and airborne platforms into spaceborne platforms, which greatly promotes the civil application of HRS imagery in the fields of agriculture, forestry, and environmental monitoring. China is playing an important role in this evolution, especially in recent years, with the successful launch and operation of a series of civil hyperspectral spacecraft and satellites, including the Shenzhou-3 spacecraft, the Gaofen-5 satellite, the SPARK satellite, the Zhuhai-1 satellite network for environmental and resources monitoring, the FengYun series of satellites for meteorological observation, and the Chang'E series of spacecraft for planetary exploration. The Chinese spaceborne HRS platforms have various new characteristics, such as the wide swath width, high spatial resolution, wide spectral range, hyperspectral satellite networks, and microsatellites. This paper focuses on the recent progress in Chinese spaceborne HRS, from the aspects of the typical satellite systems, the data processing, and the applications. In addition, the future development trends of HRS in China are also discussed and analyzed.

Abstract:Angle measurement based on heterodyne interferometer has been attracted much research interest and applied in various fields ranging from scientific research to practical engineering. However, a systematic research on the typical heterodyne angular interferometer has not been presented before. This paper mainly focused on the error analysis of the heterodyne angular interferometer and its dynamic measurement performance. The influence of error factors originating from optical configuration, mechanical installation and environmental fluctuations on measurement accuracy is analyzed. Furthermore, the performance of the angle interferometer in measuring dynamic angle, especially for high-frequency angular vibration, is evaluated by using a high-frequency angular vibration system and an interferometric fiber optic gyroscope. Finally, the measurement capability and uncertainty of this angle interferometer are also discussed.

Abstract:Dual-comb based hyperspectral imaging (DCHI) offers outstanding advantages for ultra- precise spectral analysis. In this work, we present and demonstrate terahertz (THz) hyperspectral imaging using a photonic swept-frequency dual-comb THz source, which combines frequency-modulated continuous waves (FMCW) with dual electro-optic combs. The proposed innovative approach can overcome the typical trade-off between spectral bandwidth and frequency resolution in traditional dual-comb imaging systems, impressively achieving a frequency resolution of 50 MHz within a flexible spectral bandwidth of 220-320 GHz for non-destructive imaging diagnostics.

Abstract:In the present deep-sea seismic exploration of China air-gun is used as the seismic source for emitting and a streamer of single-channel seismic system is applied for signal receiving,so that the resolution of shallow strata is low and some refined processings such as velocity analysis and coverage overlaying are difficult.To solve this problem,a deep-sea high-resolution multi-channel seismic exploring system is developed for shallow strata,which uses a high-energy plasma seismic source and a multi-channel streamer composed of 96 fiber-optic hydrophones.It has been shown from the tests of the system that by using this system the resolution of the strata can reach to 1.2 m.In addition,the system can be conveniently applied in a large water extent and can meet the requirements of ocean mineral resource investigations and deep-sea environmental surveys.

Abstract:A novel high-spectral-resolution lidar (HSRL) technique for atmospheric aerosol remote sensing,which uses multi-longitudinal-mode laser as the transmitting light source,is proposed.A field-widened Michelson interferometer (FWMI) is used as the spectral discriminator,and the periodic frequency discrimination characteristic in the process of FWMI designing should match with the mode interval of multi-longitudinal-mode laser to ensure consistent fine spectral discrimination for the return signal from each longitudinal mode laser.The principle and the realization way of the proposed multi-longitudinal-mode HSRL are illustrated in detail and the main factors which constrain the frequency discrimination characteristic of the FWMI in multi-longitudinal-mode HSRL are discussed quantitatively.The performance of the proposed technique is verified further at the wavelength of 1064 nm by computer simulation.The multi-longitudinal-mode HSRL technique can avoid the dependence of the current HSRLs on the single multi-longitudinal-mode lasers remarkably.The proposed technique can not only decrease the cost,volume and weight of the laser in HSRL,but also improve its stability notably,which is of great significance for airborne and satellite-borne HSRL development in our country.

Abstract:A conical-diffraction-based cross-dispersed spatial heterodyne spectrometer (CDCDSHS) is presented. Conical diffraction is introduced, and one grating in the SHS is rolled around the central normal of its surface to expand the spectral range. The two-dimensional fringes are generated by the longitudinal-dispersion grating and the lateral-dispersion gratings through conical diffraction. Mathematical expressions are given for the parameter of an interferogram with varying spectral features and for the intensity distribution. Two examples are numerically simulated to demonstrate the performance of the spectrometer. The simulations show that the designed spectrometer can limit the interferogram of each spectral feature to be recorded by certain given rows of pixels on the charge-coupled device to avoid multiplexing disadvantages, and it can obtain clear features in each detailed spectrum with a higher signal-to-noise ratio than the conventional SHS while eliminating the need for filters or moving parts. Replacing the lateral-dispersion grating in the designed spectrometer with a mosaic grating can increase the spectral resolution and broaden the detectable spectral range. The designed spectrometer is also compact, very stable, and high-throughput. All mentioned advantages make the CDCDSHS a good prospect in broadband, high-resolution, high-sensitivity spectral measurement.

Abstract:High-resolution spectroscopy employing spatial heterodyne spectrographs (SHS) holds significant promise for forthcoming space missions, building upon its established track record in science applications. Notably, it offers exceptional performance and cost- effectiveness in the ultraviolet-visual (UV-Vis) region compared to contemporary instruments. SHS instruments provide high-resolution capabilities and substantially larger etendues than similar resolving power instruments. This study introduces a comprehensive Python-based SHS model integrated with a user-friendly web scraping interface for target star selection, parameter generation, and 2D interferogram creation. Our SHS model demonstrates double the resolving power of a grating spectrometer and a throughput comparable to a Fourier transform spectrometer (FTS) but without moving parts, enhancing robustness for deployment in space. The interferogram processing algorithm includes flat-fielding, bias removal, apodization, and an inverse Fourier transform (IFT) for accurate spectrum retrieval. Despite bandwidth limitations due to resolving power constraints, SHS models excel in applications requiring high spectral resolution over narrow wavelength ranges, such as studying isotopic emission lines. The model provides optimization results and trade-offs for system parameters, ensuring precise spectral recovery with realistic signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values. SHS is versatile and effective for various scientific applications, including investigating atomic and molecular emissions from comets, planetary atmospheres, the Earth's atmosphere, the Sun, and the interstellar medium (ISM). This research significantly contributes to expediting the development and deployment of SHS instruments, demonstrating their potential across numerous scientific domains.

Abstract:This paper presents a multi-grating-based cross-dispersed spatial heterodyne spectrometer (MGCDSHS). The principle of generation of two-dimensional interferograms for two cases, where the light beam is diffracted by one sub-grating or two sub-gratings, is given and equations for the interferogram parameters in these two cases are derived. An instrument design with numerical simulations is presented that demonstrates the spectrometer’s ability to simultaneously record separate interferograms corresponding to different spectral features with high resolution over a broad spectral range. The design solves the mutual interference problem caused by overlapping of the interferograms, and also provides the high spectral resolution and broad spectral measurement range that cannot be achieved using conventional SHSs. Additionally, by introducing cylindrical lens groups, the MGCDSHS solves the throughput loss and light intensity reduction problems caused by direct use of multi-gratings. The MGCDSHS is compact, highly stable, and high-throughput. These advantages make the MGCDSHS suitable for high-sensitivity, high-resolution, and broadband spectral measurements.

Abstract:Asymmetric spatial heterodyne spectroscopy is a new ultra-high resolution remote sensing technique. Due to the advantages of large luminous flux, small size, and high precision, it is suitable for high-precision detection of detector motion speed in a deep-space exploration environment. However, even after decades of development, this technique has still not been used as a mature scientific tool for space detection. This paper deeply analyzes the Doppler Asymmetric Spatial Heterodyne (DASH) spectral velocimetry technique from the perspective of digital signal processing, establishes the corresponding mathematical model, and deduces the measurement constraint relationship. To overcome the accuracy defect of direct measurement based on the absorption spectral signal, the Background Light Synchronous Elimination (BLSE) method has been introduced as a feasible indirect measurement scheme. Through data simulation experiments, the resolution accuracy of direct and indirect measurements was verified, and it is proven that the indirect measurement method is necessary for high-precision spectral velocimetry in a deep-space environment.

Abstract:The basic theory and design method of a broad-band spatial heterodyne interferometric spectrometer was researched based on the multi-order diffraction of echelle grating. The characteristics of the heterodyne interferometric spectrometer was described and the relationships between the instrument performance parameters (such as spectral resolution, spectral range, signal-to-noise ratio, field of view, and diffraction order) and the initial optical and electronic parameters (such as echelle grating, field prism, imaging system and detector) were discussed. Then, an experimental platform for the broad-band spatial heterodyne spectrometer was settled to demonstrate the above discussions. The designed spectral resolution is 0.173 cm-1@16950 cm-1, and the spectral range is 500 nm to 700 nm. The broad-band results were given with a laser source (543. 5 nm, 632.8 nm), a sodium lamb (589 nm, 589.6 nm) and a mercury lamb (576.96 nm, 579.07 nm). It shows that the average wavenumber sampling interval of recovered spectra is 0.17 cm-1. When the triangle apodization is used in the process of spectral recovery, the measured spectral resolution is 0.39 cm-1. The obtained results conform to theoretical results and the relationship among orders of recovered spectrum accords with the theory results decided by grating function. ©, 2015, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Abstract:In our paper, we present a new design for an orthogonal tunable spatial heterodyne spectrometer (SHS) and a method to construct a spatial heterodyne base on the prism. Our design makes the radial plane of the tuned shaft orthogonal to the plane of the folding-path thus one can quickly tune the system to an arbitrary spectral range without additional moving parts. In addition, the Prism-Mirror instead of grating in SHS is used to avoid lateral confinement, which causes the resolving power to be overestimated, in the existing SHS based on gratings.

Abstract:We review the technique and research of the ultrahigh spatiotemporal resolved spectroscopy and its applications in the field of the ultrafast dynamics of mesoscopic systems and nanomaterials. Combining femtosecond time-resolved spectroscopy and scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM), we can obtain the spectra with ultrahigh temporal and spatial resolutions simultaneously. Some problems in doing so are discussed. Then we show the important applications of the ultrahigh spatiotemporal resolved spectroscopy with a few typical examples.
