Abstract:A novel technique by the citrate pyrolysis is developed to prepare metal oxide nanocrystals. In this paper details on synthesizing iron oxide nanoparticles through this method is described. The structure and morphology of nanoscale products have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The obtained iron oxide particles have two lattice types and a mean particle size distribution of 20 and 50 nm, respectively.

Abstract:alpha-Fe2O3 was synthesized by hydrothermal reaction method using Fe(NO3)(3)center dot 9H(2)O as starting materials and caustic potash as mineralizer. The powders were characterized by XRD, TEM and SEDA for investigating the effects of reaction time on phase formation and morphology. The results show that alpha-FeOOH nanowires were formed firstly under high temperature and high-pressure conditions, and then the particle-like alpha-Fe2O3 powders were obtained because of the dehydration of alpha-FeOOH as the hydrothermal reaction time increasing. The phase formation mechanism of alpha-Fe2O3 from alpha-FeOOH was discussed in this paper.

Abstract:The surface structure of the iron oxide nanoparticles obtained by the co-precipitation method has been investigated, and a thin layer of α-FeOOH absorbed on surface of the nanoparticle is confirmed by analyses of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) and surface photovoltage spectroscopy (SPS). After annealed at 400°C, the α-FeOOH can be converted to γ-Fe2O3. The simple-annealed procedure resulted in the formation of Fe3O4@γ-Fe2O3 core/shell structure with improved stability and a higher magnetic saturation value, and also the simple method can be used to obtain core/shell structure in other similar system.

Abstract:Goethite ultrafine particles were prepared by oxidizing ferrous sulfate using sodium chlorate.The synthesis of iron hydroxides is reported by the use of low cost ammonia water.The preparation involved the hydrolysis of aqueous solutions of ferric salts followed by transform and surface treatment of the products.The obtained products were goethite which consisted of particles with length ranging from 100 to 230 nm and width ranging from 15 to 30 nm.The produced materials were examined by powder X-ray diffraction(XRD) for crystalline phase identification,transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and XRD for particle size estimation.Some factors which would influence the rate of reaction were investigated.

Abstract:Fe3O4 nano-particles( 1) were successfully prepared by co-recipitation and micro-eactor method. The microstructure and morphology were inverstigated by XRD and TEM. The results showed that 1 exhibited uniform and fine nanocrystalline with diameter of about 15 nm ~ 20 nm,better dispersion,particle size uniformity,and homogeneous morphology. Magnetic measurement indicated that 1 exhibited a superparanmagnetic property and has a saturation magnetization of 62. 24 emu·g- 1.

Abstract:α-Fe2O3 is the most stable compound in iron oxide with good corrosion resistance,light resistance, magnetic,catalytic,and so on. FeCl3 · 6H2O was used as the main raw material,and ellipsoidalα-Fe2O3 was pre-pared by hydrolysis precipitation method under certain experimental conditions. According to the basic principle of this method,the effect of solution pH value,the concentration of FeCl3 solution and calcination temperature on the morphology and particle size ofα-Fe2O3 was studied. The microstructure and phase structure of Fe2O3 nanoparti-cles were characterized by using SEM and XRD. The results show that the optimum experimental conditions for the preparation of Fe2O3 nanoparticles are as follows:that solution pH value is 2.0,the concentration of FeCl3 solu-tion is 0.05 mol/L,and the calcination temperature of the products precursor is 400℃. The purity of the prepared Fe2O3 nanoparticles is high and the average particle size is 30-50 nm.

Abstract:Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles were synthesized by a solvothermal method with reaction system of H_2O and ethanol in a high-pressure autoclave.The products were confirmed by XRD and FTIR.The obtained Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles have the long rod-like morphology with 200～500nm in length and 20～30nm in diameter under the observation of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy.The saturation magnetization of Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles is 64.75emu/g,which shows the good magnetic properties.The formation mechanism of formation of Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles was also discussed.

Abstract:Fe3O4 nanomaterials have received great attention in various technology fields. However, the limitations are Fe3O4 is easy to agglomerate and obtaining Fe3O4 nanoparticles of tunable magnetism and controllable size, and well-dispersed ability remains a challenge. In this study, a simple hydrothermal process with propanediol as the solvent was used to prepare Fe3O4 nanoparticles. In the optimization of preparation conditions, three key factors (hydrothermal temperature, hydrothermal time, and solvent volume) were optimized by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results showed that the magnetism and the phase content of the prepared Fe3O4 were controllable during the optimization process. The optimum hydrothermal temperature was 170 °C, hydrothermal time was 18 h and solvent volume was 40 ml. The elemental composition, surface morphology, and magnetic properties of Fe3O4 nanoparticles were characterized. The prepared Fe3O4 nanoparticles exhibited superparamagnetic properties and high crystallinity, with an average particle size of 20 nm, a specific surface area of 84.756 m2 g−1, a pore volume of 0.265 cm3 g−1, and saturation magnetization (Ms) of 129.38 emu g−1.

Synthesis of Water-soluble Fe3O4 Nanocrystals with a Phase-transfer Method

Abstract:Hydrophobic Fe3O4 nanocrystals with superparamagnetic behavior were synthesized in an organic solvent. High quality water-soluble Fe3O4 nanocrystals were then prepared by a phase transfer method, in which amphiphilic oligomers (polymaleic acid aliphatic amine ester) was used as surface coating agents. The obtained aqueous Fe3O4 nanocrystals were characterized with transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, and dynamic light scattering. A solution of Fe3O4 nanocrystals in water showed expected superparamagnetic behavior when subjected to an external magnetic field. We found that hydrophobic ester chain length of the amphiphilic oligomer can dramatically affect the phase transfer efficiency, which was explained by the impact of local hydrophobic environment on the stability of nanocrystals in water. A biocompatible test showed that the water-soluble Fe3O4 were very stable in various physiological conditions without particle aggregation.

Abstract:Fe3O4 sol was prepared by co-precipitation useing ferric chloride,ferrous chloride and ammonia water,and then nanosized Fe3O4 magnetic particles modified with coupling agent γ-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane(KH-560)were prepared.X-ray diffraction(XRD),fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),transmission electronic microscopy(TEM)and magnetization measurements were used to characterize the phase,chemical composition,appearance and magnetic characteristics of modified particles.The results showed that the magnetic nanoparticles exhibited an inverse spinel structure with an average diameter of 12nm.The dispersion properties of modified nanosized Fe3O4 magnetic particles in ethanol were improved.Moreover,the magnetic nanoparticles retained superparamagnetic behavior at room temperature,and the saturation magnetization was 67.2 emu/g.

Abstract:Ultra-large-scale synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles (875 g) has been achieved in a single reaction via a facile solution-based dehydration process. The obtained nanoparticles capped with hydrophobic oleic acid ligands are magnetite with the average size of 5 nm. The synthesized samples exhibit a higher catalytic activity toward the direct coal liquefaction (DCL) than the commercial Fe3O4 powders. The conversion, oil yield, and liquefaction degree with the synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticles are 89.6, 65.1, and 77.3%, respectively. The excellent catalytic performance of the synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticles can be attributed to their extremely small size and high dispersity. This facile approach to prepare highly active nanocatalyst for the DCL will be applicable for future industrial processes.
An Α-Fe2o3 Powder of Nanosized Particles Via Precursor Dispersion

Abstract:An α-Fe2O3 powder of nanosized particles has been successfully prepared by effectively dispersing the precipitated hydroxide precursor in a sodium chloride matrix. In particular, the hydroxide precursor was converted into crystalline α-Fe2O3 particles approximately 10 nm in size when it was mechanically activated in the sodium chloride matrix for 1 h. The subsequent calcination at 600 °C for 1 h resulted in a limited degree of coarsening in particle size while the crystallinity of α-Fe2O3 was further established. The effectiveness of obtaining ultrafine α-Fe2O3 powders by mechanical activation in the sodium chloride matrix was demonstrated by comparing the powder with those obtained via other routes, such as mechanical activation without sodium chloride as the matrix, calcination at 600 °C, and then mechanical activation in sodium chloride matrix, respectively. None of these processing routes led to a powder comparable in particle characteristics to that derived by the precursor dispersion.b)

Abstract:Magnetite Fe3O4 ultrafine powder, a magnetic material, was synthesized by a novel arc discharge method of metallic iron filaments in NaCl electrolyte. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The size and the shape of the products were influenced by the voltage between the two metallic iron filaments.

Abstract:Water-soluble Fe3O4 nanocrystals have been prepared through hydrothermal approach. These nanocrystals capped with C6H6O6 (the oxidation state of ascorbic acid) could be readily dispersed in hydrated aqueous systems. The final product was characterized with X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier Transform Infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. From XRD patterns, we confirm the product to be Fe3O4. The nanoparticles several nanometers long were well dispersed as shown in TEM image. Magnetic hysteresis loop measurements showed that the Fe3O4 nanocrystals display superparamagnetism. A possible formation mechanism of the Fe3O4 nanocrystals was suggested.

Preparation of Nanoparticles with an Environment-Friendly Approach

Abstract:Developing various approaches for preparing high performance materials has long been topics and tasks both for scientists and for engineers. Despite that many methods have been developed for preparing nanomaterials, developing simple and environment-friendly ways for preparing nanomaterials is very attractive. Here a simple approach of synthesizing Fe3O4 nanoparticles by arc-discharge submerging in water was reported. The results showed that by this method Fe3O4 nanoparticles can be synthesized at large scale. The as-prepared Fe3O4 nanoparticles exhibited uniform spherical shape and their diameters varied with arc-discharging parameters. The experimental results showed that the size of the synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticles can be controlled through adjusting the processing parameters. Since no vacuum system has been used, the synthesizing process is greatly simplified. In addition, only cheap deionized water and industrial iron bar are used and no pollution or harmful byproducts are found in the synthesis process. It indicated that the present approach is a simple, low-cost and environment-friendly one for preparing nanoparticles.

Abstract:In order to obtain the ferrite magnetic fluids of higher magneticintensity with a simpler preparation.In this paper,the nano-sizedferrite magnetic particles were prepared by chemical precipitation.The influence of operating temperature(T),time(t),pH(y) and surfactant on the stability of the ferrite magneticparticles(n) were studied.Then studies are made in detail on the formation mechanismof ferrite(Fe_3O_4) particles and the influencing factors.So the most prospect method of preparing Fe_3O_4 of high purity,free particle diameter and even dispersion were found:t=(180 min),T=80℃,y=0.25,n=0.6 The IR measurement indicates that the nano-sized ferrite particles obtained in such a way are packed with surfactants and have an average diameter less than(10 nm).The XRD confirms,ns that the products are ferrite particles.Then the properties are investigated by VSM etc.
Preparation and Properties of Nanosize MnZn Ferrite from Δ-Feooh

Abstract:Ferrous ion was transformed into feroxyhyte (δ-FeOOH) by oxidation. Then, manganese sulfate and zinc sulfate in some ratio were added to the feroxyhyte solution. The co-precipitation was boiling reflux conditions sometime under constant stirring. The nanosize MnZn ferrite powder was formed. The mechanism of preparation of the nanosize MnZn ferrite was discussed, and the formation of feroxyhyte which was playing a key role during the process was mentioned. The properties of powder was tested by means of X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer. The results show that the samples of spherical particles about 20 nm, which have characteristics of ferrimagnetism, has larger saturation magnetization, but the remanent magnetization and coercivity are comparatively smaller. The spinel MnZn ferrite nanosize powder was successfully prepared from δ-FeOOH at low temperature, with low-carbon steel and peroxide as main material.

Abstract:Electrochemical anodization is an effective and low-cost technique to fabricate nanostructured metal oxides, however, reports on synthesizing Fe3O4 on iron substrate are still few up to date. Herein we report a facile and scalable fabrication of Fe3O4 film by a rationally designed strategy of electrochemical anodization and low-temperature crystallization processes. The self-supported Fe3O4 film composed of polyhedral nanocrystals is successfully fabricated on iron substrate. It is noted that some common conditions for synthesizing crystalline Fe3O4 such as ferric salts and annealing are avoided. The Fe3O4 film is derived from the iron substrate and proved to be considerably robust, which could be employed as catalyst and electrode. The strategy for fabricating Fe3O4 nanocrystals on iron substrate in this study is expected to inspire the exploration of low-temperature crystallization for other metal oxides.
