Abstract:The transition of the energy system in Germany leads to high numbers of CHP, HP and PV systems on low voltage grids. The voltage level is identified as the main issue regarding connection restrictions. This paper utilises a 2020 scenario of an exemplary low voltage grid to evaluate state of the art and possible future measures for voltage control in order to comply with EN 50160 boundaries. Undervoltage is identified as main issue. Demand side management of heat pumps leads to comfort reductions for end-users. The use of on-load tap-changers is identified as a low cost and highly effective solution that does not result in comfort issues.

Abstract:As a pharmacal and edible vegetable,green asparagus is rich in many kinds of nutrients and widely welcome.At present,most of the asparagus produced in China are for exporting.But at ambient temperature,its extreme perishable property and high respiration rate seriously limit the shelf-life.Some proper preserving methods have been proved to reserve its fresh property effectively.Lately,there were a lot of studies and reports on green asparagus preserving which were summarized in this review.

Abstract:Chitosan, derived from chitin, a major constituent (in quantity) of crustaceans, is a unique aminopolysaccharide with emerging commercial potential in agriculture, food, pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals due to its nontoxic, biodegradable and biocompatable properties. Chitosan coating on fruits and vegetables has been found to be effective for the reduction of a variety of harmful micro-organims and extend the shelf-life of these products. In this review, our focus is on the antimicrobial properties of chitosan and its application as a natural preservative for fresh products. We detailed the key properties that are related to food preservation, the molecular mechanism of the antimicrobial activity of chitosan on fungi, gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, coating methods for using chitosan and its formulation for preserving fruits and vegetables, as well as the radiation method of producing chitosan from chitin. Understanding the economic and scientific factors of chitosan’s production and efficiency as a preservative will open its practical application for fruits and vegetable preservation.

Abstract:Chitosan coating is beneficial to maintaining the storage quality and prolonging the shelf life of postharvest fruits and vegetables, which is always used as the carrier film for the antimicrobial agents. This review focuses on the preparation, property, mechanism, and application effectiveness on the fruits and vegetables of chitosan-based coating with antimicrobial agents. Chitosan, derived by deacetylation of chitin, is a modified and natural biopolymer as the coating material. In this article, the safety and biocompatible and antimicrobial properties of chitosan were introduced because these attributes are very important for its application. The methods to prepare the chitosan-based coating with antimicrobial agents, such as essential oils, acid, and nanoparticles, were developed by other researchers. Meanwhile, the application of chitosan-based coating is mainly due to its antimicrobial activity and other functional properties, which were investigated, introduced, and analyzed in this review. Furthermore, the surface and mechanical properties were also investigated by researchers and concluded in this article. Finally, the effects of chitosan-based coating on the storage quality, microbial safety, and shelf life of fruits and vegetables were introduced. Their results indicated that chitosan-based coating with different antimicrobial agents would probably have wide prospect in the preservation of fruits and vegetables in the future.

Abstract:Chitosan is obtained from chitin and considered to be one of the most abundant natural polysaccharides. Due to its functional activity, chitosan has received intense and growing interest in terms of applications for food preservation over the last half-century. Compared with earlier studies, recent research has increasingly focused on the exploration of preservation mechanism as well as the targeted inhibition with higher efficiency, which is fueled by availability of more active composite ingredients and integration of more technologies, and gradually perceived as "chitosan-based biofilm preservation." In this Review, we comprehensively summarize the potential antimicrobial mechanisms or hypotheses of chitosan and its widely compounded ingredients, as well as their impacts on endogenous enzymes, oxidation and/or gas barriers. The strategies used for enhancing active function of the film-forming system and subsequent film fabrication processes including direct coating, bioactive packaging film and layer-by-layer assembly are introduced. Finally, future development of chitosan-based bioactive film is also proposed to broaden its application boundaries. Generally, our goal is that this Review is easily accessible and instructive for whose new to the field, as well as hope to advance to the filed forward.

Abstract:The effect of chitosan (5.0 and 10.0mg ml(-1)) on the incidence of brown rot (caused by Monilinia fructicola), quality attributes and senescence physiology of peaches was investigated. It was found that both concentrations of chitosan reduced the incidence of brown rot significantly and delayed the development of disease compared with the control, but were less effective than the fungicide prochloraz. Chitosan-treated peaches were firmer and had higher titratable acidity and vitamin C content than prochloraz-treated or control peaches. Compared to control (water-treated) peaches, chitosan-treated peaches showed lower respiration rate, less ethylene and malondialdehyde (MDA) production, higher superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and better membrane integrity. Hence it can be concluded that chitosan has the potential to control brown rot, preserve valuable attributes and prolong the shelf life of postharvest peaches, presumably because of its antifungal property and inhibition of the ripening and senescence process of postharvest peaches. Abstract:Chitin and chitosan are natural compounds that are biodegradable and nontoxic and have gained noticeable attention due to their effective contribution to increased yield and agro-environmental sustainability. Several effects have been reported for chitosan application in plants. Particularly, it can be used in plant defense systems against biological and environmental stress conditions and as a plant growth promoter—it can increase stomatal conductance and reduce transpiration or be applied as a coating material in seeds. Moreover, it can be effective in promoting chitinolytic microorganisms and prolonging storage life through post-harvest treatments, or benefit nutrient delivery to plants since it may prevent leaching and improve slow release of nutrients in fertilizers. Finally, it can remediate polluted soils through the removal of cationic and anionic heavy metals and the improvement of soil properties. On the other hand, chitin also has many beneficial effects such as plant growth promotion, improved plant nutrition and ability to modulate and improve plants’ resistance to abiotic and biotic stressors. The present review presents a literature overview regarding the effects of chitin, chitosan and derivatives on horticultural crops, highlighting their important role in modern sustainable crop production; the main limitations as well as the future prospects of applications of this particular biostimulant category are also presented.

Abstract:Many post-harvest diseases are caused by wound pathogens, and the complete control of these agents is done through the use of an agent which grows rapidly and is environmental friendly. One of the commonly used agents in regulating post-harvest diseases is a polysaccharide called chitosan. It is a common polysaccharide mostly found in crustaceans shells and fungi cell wall. It is mainly produced by the deacetylation of chitin. A great number of researches are being done on chitosan to know its mode of action. Chitosan has been proven to have various effects on plants, bacteria, viruses, and fungi. This review is to provide the different studies which have been done to control post-harvest diseases and to get a full understanding on how chitosan works.

Abstract:Chitosan is a multifunctional biopolymer that is widely used in the food and medical fields because of its good antibacterial, antioxidant, and enzyme inhibiting activity and its degradability. The biological activity of chitosan as a new food preservation material has gradually become a hot research topic. This paper reviews recent research on the bioactive mechanism of chitosan and introduces strategies for modifying and applying chitosan for food preservation and different preservation techniques to explore the potential application value of active chitosan-based food packaging. Finally, issues and perspectives on the role of chitosan in enhancing the freshness of food products are presented to provide a theoretical basis and scientific reference for subsequent research.

Abstract:Food loss and waste are a major concern globally and represent a challenge for food systems' sustainability. The application of natural, edible, and environment-friendly materials for food preservation emerges as a potential alternative to chemical additives, representing a promising strategy. Chitosan is a green biopolymer obtained from marine waste and promoted for excellent biological properties which makes it suitable for food preservation applications. Chitosan nanoemulsions in particular yield multifaceted benefits such as droplet size reduction, improved solubility, stability, and biological activity, and also provide room to integrate a wide array of derivatives from food processing wastes and byproducts. Within the context of a circular economy approach, these wastes and byproducts can be used for upscaling the potential functionality of chitosan nanoemulsions to induce a synergetic effect for preserving different food quality parameters. This article summarizes the most important information on formulation, fabrication, and advancements in chitosan-based nanoemulsions highlighting their potential benefit for food preservation applications. Reviewing the all-around executions of chitosan nanoemulsions for various food systems, the current review has been framed to lay down understandings regarding improvements made in the production and functionality of chitosan nanoemulsions for extending the shelf life, managing quality, and reducing the losses of perishables for achieving a sustainable economy.

Abstract:Both gelatin and chitosan are safe, odorless, edible, biodegradable, biocompatible, cost-efficient and commercially available biopolymers, which promotes the possibility of forming complex. Many factors, including origin, molecular weight, deacetylation degree, pH, salts, concentration, temperature, active materials, modifiers, etc., could impose effect on the process of producing gelatin-chitosan complex. The formed gelatin-chitosan complex has excellent physicochemical properties such as antibacterial property and antioxidant property, and could effectively preserve practical food (such as meat, vegetables and fruits). This article comprehensively reviews recent advances in factors affecting the complex forming process and practical food preservation application of gelatin-chitosan complex. It aims to provide an overview of the value of gelatin-chitosan complex as an effective preservation alternative in food technology.

Abstract:In agriculture, current control of pathogens relies mainly on chemical fertilizers and pesticides. However, alternative solutions are needed due to concerns for public health, environmental protection, and development of resistant pests. Chitosan is a nontoxic, biodegradable biopolymer showing antimicrobial and plant-immunity eliciting properties. Here, we review chitosan antimicrobial activities, modes of action, and the elicitation of plant defense responses. The major points are the following: (1) Chitosan exhibits various inhibitory efficiency against bacteria, fungi, and viruses; (2) the five main modes of action of chitosan are electrostatic interactions, plasma membrane damage mechanism, chitosan-DNA/RNA interactions, metal chelation capacity of chitosan, and deposition onto the microbial surface; (3) the elicitation of plant defense responses by chitosan may be related to various pathogenesis-related proteins, defense-related enzymes, and secondary metabolites accumulation, as well as the complex signal transduction network. The facing problems and strategies for antimicrobial mechanism research and agricultural application of chitosan are also discussed.

Abstract:Chitosan is a biodegradable and biocompatible polysaccharide obtained by partial deacetylation of chitin. This polymer has been gaining increasing popularity due to its natural origin, favorable physicochemical properties, and multidirectional bioactivity. In agriculture, the greatest hopes are raised by the possibility of using chitosan as a biostimulant, a plant protection product, an elicitor, or an agent to increase the storage stability of plant raw materials. The most important properties of chitosan include induction of plant defense mechanisms and regulation of metabolic processes. Additionally, it has antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, and antioxidant activity. The effectiveness of chitosan interactions is determined by its origin, deacetylation degree and acetylation pattern, molecular weight, type of chemical modifications, pH, concentration, and solubility. There is a need to conduct research on alternative sources of chitosan, extraction methods, optimization of physicochemical properties, and commercial implementation of scientific progress outcomes in this field. Moreover, studies are necessary to assess the bioactivity and toxicity of chitosan nanoparticles and chitosan conjugates with other substances and to evaluate the consequences of the large-scale use thereof. This review presents the unique properties of chitosan and its derivatives that have the greatest importance for plant production and yield quality as well as the benefits and limitations of their application.

Abstract:Chitosan is illustrated in research as a stimulant of plant tolerance and resistance that promotes natural defense mechanisms against biotic and abiotic stressors, and its use may lessen the amount of agrochemicals utilized in agriculture. Recent literature reports indicate the high efficacy of soil or foliar usage of chitin and chitosan in the promotion of plant growth and the induction of secondary metabolites biosynthesis in various species, such as Artemisia annua, Curcuma longa, Dracocephalum kotschyi, Catharanthus roseus, Fragaria × ananassa, Ginkgo biloba, Iberis amara, Isatis tinctoria, Melissa officinalis, Mentha piperita, Ocimum basilicum, Origanum vulgare ssp. Hirtum, Psammosilene tunicoides, Salvia officinalis, Satureja isophylla, Stevia rebaudiana, and Sylibum marianum, among others. This work focuses on the outstanding scientific contributions to the field of the production and quality of aromatic and medicinal plants, based on the different functions of chitosan and chitin in sustainable crop production. The application of chitosan can lead to increased medicinal plant production and protects plants against harmful microorganisms. The effectiveness of chitin and chitosan is also due to the low concentration required, low cost, and environmental safety. On the basis of showing such considerable characteristics, there is increasing attention on the application of chitin and chitosan biopolymers in horticulture and agriculture productions.
