Abstract:In this paper, we explore the limit structure of a sequence of Riemannian manifolds with Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature bounded below in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology. By extending the techniques established by Cheeger-Cloding for Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below, we prove that each tangent space at a point of the limit space is a metric cone. We also analyze the singular structure of the limit space analogous to a work of Cheeger-Colding-Tian. Our results will be applied to study the limit space of a sequence of Kähler metrics arising from solutions of certain complex Monge-Ampère equations for the existence of Kähler-Ricci solitons on a Fano manifold via the continuity method.

Abstract:In this article we first show that any finite cover of the moduli space of closed Riemann surfaces of genus $g$ with $g\geq 2$ does not admit any Riemannian metric $ds^2$ of nonnegative scalar curvature such that $ds^2 \succ ds_{T}^2$ where $ds_{T}^2$ is the Teichm\"uller metric. Our second result is the proof that any cover $M$ of the moduli space $\mathbb{M}_{g}$ of a closed Riemann surface $S_{g}$ does not admit any complete Riemannian metric of uniformly positive scalar curvature in the quasi-isometry class of the Teichm\"uller metric, which implies a conjecture of Farb-Weinberger.

Abstract:We investigate the influence of uniformly positive scalar curvature on the size of a non-collapsed Ricci limit space coming from a sequence of n -manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature and uniformly positive scalar curvature. We prove that such a limit space splits at most lines or -factors. When this maximal splitting occurs, we obtain a uniform upper bound on the diameter of the non-splitting factor. Moreover, we obtain a volume gap estimate and a volume growth order estimate of geodesic balls on such manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the moduli spaces of noncollapsed Ricci flow solutions with bounded energy and scalar curvature. We show a weak compactness theorem for such moduli spaces and apply it to study isoperimetric constant control, Kähler Ricci flow and moduli space of gradient shrinking solitons.

Abstract:We study the Ricci flow out of spaces with edge type conical singularities along a closed, embedded curve. Under the additional assumption that for each point of the curve, our space is locally modelled on the product of a fixed positively curved cone and a line, we show existence of a solution to Ricci flow $(M,g(t))$ for $t\in (0,T],$ which converges back to the singular space as $t\searrow 0$ in the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff topology. We also prove curvature estimates for the solution and, for edge points, we show that the tangent flow at these points is a positively curved expanding Ricci soliton solution crossed with a line.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the singularities of two extended Ricci flow systems --- connection Ricci flow and Ricci harmonic flow using newly-defined curvature quantities. Specifically, we give the definition of three types of singularities and their corresponding singularity models, and then prove the convergence. In addition, for Ricci harmonic flow, we use the monotonicity of functional $\nu_\alpha$ to show the connection between finite-time singularity and shrinking Ricci harmonic soliton. At last, we explore the property of ancient solutions for Ricci harmonic flow.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with noncollapsed Riemannian manifolds $(M^{n},g)$ with integral curvature bounds, as well as their Gromov-Hausdorff limits $(M^{n}_{i},g_{i})\xrightarrow{GH}(X,d)$. Our main result generalizes Cheeger's Hausdorff dimension estimate for the singular set in [7] and improve it into Minkowski dimension estimate in the spirit of Cheeger-Naber [12]. We also prove a difffeomorphism finiteness theorem for manifolds in the critical case, using Cheeger-Naber's methods in [13].

Abstract:In this paper we discuss some recent progresses in the study of compact Kahler manifolds with positive orthogonal Ricci curvature, a curvature condition defined as the difference between Ricci curvature and holomorphic sectional curvature. In the recent works by authors and the joint work of authors with Q. Wang the comparison theorems, vanishing theorems, and structural theorems for such manifolds have been proved. We also constructed examples of this type of manifolds, and give some classification results in low dimensions.

Abstract:We show that the absence of unbounded algebraic curvature invariants constructed from polynomials of the Riemann tensor cannot guarantee the absence of strong singularities. As a consequence, it is not sufficient to rely solely on the analysis of such scalars to assess the regularity of a given space-time. This conclusion follows from the analysis of incomplete geodesics within the internal region of asymmetric wormholes supported by scalar matter which arise in two distinct metric-affine gravity theories. These wormholes have bounded algebraic curvature scalars everywhere, which highlights that their finiteness does not prevent the emergence of pathologies (singularities) in the geodesic structure of space-time. By analyzing the tidal forces in the internal wormhole region, we find that the angular components are unbounded along incomplete radial time-like geodesics. The strength of the singularity is determined by the evolution of Jacobi fields along such geodesics, finding that it is of strong type, as volume elements are torn apart as the singularity is approached. Lastly, and for completeness, we consider the wormhole of the quadratic Palatini theory and present an analysis of the tidal forces in the entire space-time.

Abstract:In this note, we prove that positive scalar curvature can pass to three dimensional Ricci limit spaces of non-negative Ricci curvature when it splits off a line. As a corollary, we obtain an optimal Bonnet-Myers type upper bound. Moreover, we obtain a similar statement in all dimensions for Alexandrov spaces of non-negative curvature.

Abstract:We show that an orientable 3-dimensional manifold M admits a complete riemannian metric of bounded geometry and uniformly pos- itive scalar curvature if and only if there exists a finite collection F of spherical space-forms such that M is a (possibly infinite) connected sum where each summand is diffeomorphic to S2xS1 or to some mem- ber of F. This result generalises G. Perelman's classification theorem for compact 3-manifolds of positive scalar curvature. The main tool is a variant of Perelman's surgery construction for Ricci flow.

Abstract:We study the geometry of a weak Riemannian metric on the infinite dimensional manifold of compact spacelike Cauchy hypersurfaces in a globally hyperbolic spacetime. We show that the geodesic distance (i.e. the infimum of lengths of paths between two given points) is positive, and that the sectional curvature is well defined and non-positive.

Abstract:We develop the notions of connections and curvature for general Lie-Rinehart algebras without using smoothness assumptions on the base space. We present situations when a connection exists. E.g., this is the case when the underlying module is finitely generated. We show how the group of module automorphism acts as gauge transformations on the space of connections. When the underlying module is projective we define a version of the Chern character reproducing results of Hideki Ozeki. We discuss various examples of flat connections and the associated Maurer-Cartan equations. We provide examples of Levi-Civita connections on singular varieties and singular differential spaces with non-zero Riemannian curvature. The main observation is that for quotient singularities, even though the metric degenerates along strata, the poles of the Christoffel symbols are removable.

Abstract:The restrictions on the resolution of transmission devices formed by wire media (arrays of conductive cylinders) recently proposed in [Phys. Rev. B, 71, 193105 (2005)] and experimentally tested in [Phys. Rev. B, 73, 033108 (2006)] are studied in this paper using both analytical and numerical modeling. It is demonstrated that such transmission devices have sub-wavelength resolution that can in principle be made as fine as required by a specific application by controlling the lattice constant of the wire medium. This confirms that slabs of the wire medium are unique imaging devices at the microwave frequency range, and are capable of transmitting distributions of TM-polarized electric fields with nearly unlimited sub-wavelength resolution to practically arbitrary distances.

Abstract:We prove the existence of Ricci flow starting from a class of metrics with unbounded curvature, which are doubly-warped products over an interval with a spherical factor pinched off at an end. These provide a forward evolution from some known and conjectured finite-time local singularities of Ricci flow, generalizing previous examples. The class also includes metrics with non-compact singular ends which become instantaneously compact. Furthermore, we prove local stability of the forward evolution, which allows us to glue it to other manifolds and create a forward evolution from spaces which are not globally warped products.
