Abstract:The oxidation of alcohols by N-bromosuccinimide with water as the reaction medium was developed.A series of alcohols including benzylic and aliphatic alcohols were converted into the corresponding ketones or aldehydes in high yields under catalyst-free conditions in water,except for some alcohols bearing donating substituents.However,the oxidation of less active alcohols could be carried out smoothly with Salen-Co(III) complex as a catalyst in a medium of water and CH2Cl2 mixture.

Abstract:A regioselective bromohydroxylation reaction of simple allenes affording 2-bromoalken-3-ols in moderate-to-good yields has been developed by using NBS as the electrophilic reagent in a mixture of 1,4-dioxane/H 2 O (1:1) at room temperature. Through this study it has been concluded that the regioselectivity is determined by various factors including steric and electronic effects of the substituents of the allene moiety.

Abstract:Practical approaches for chemoselective mono-bromination, di-bromination, and tetra-bromination of terminal alkynes to generate 1-bromoalkynes, 1,2-dibromoalkenes, α,α-dibromoketones, and 1,1,2,2-tetrabromoalkanes based on efficient oxidative brominations mediated by a hypervalent iodine reagent have been developed. Chemoselective bromination can be realized under mild conditions by altering the bromine source. The tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB)/(diacetoxyiodo)benzene (PIDA) system is specific for mono-bromination to provide 1-bromoalkynes, while the NaBr/PIDA system is selective toward di-bromination to achieve 1,2-dibromoalkenes. When a certain amount of water was added to the NaBr/PIDA system, a different di-bromination product, α,α-dibromo ketones, was generated. Tetra-bromination of terminal alkynes provides an efficient protocol for the synthesis of 1,1,2,2-tetrabromoalkanes in a system with an excess loading of NaBr/PIDA in one pot. This bromination affords good yields (up to 99%) with excellent chemoselectivity (up to 100%). These methods can be applied to the efficient chemoselective synthesis of bromide derivatives, intermediates, and related biologically active compounds.

Abstract:A convenient and efficient method for aminobromination of alkylidenecyclopropanes is reported. This is exemplified in the stereoselective preparation of N-[(Z)-3-bromobut-3-en-1-yl]-p-toluenesulfonamides by using p-toluenesulfonamide (TsNH 2 ) and N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) as nitrogen and bromine sources, respectively.

Abstract:Functionalized ketene dithioacetals are important intermediates in organic synthesis. alpha-Functionalization reactions based on them provide potential precursors for the construction of usefully carbo- and hetero-cyclic compounds. In this paper, a versatile alpha-bromination of functionalized ketene dithioacetals was developed. In the presence of H2O, the reactions of functionalized ketene dithioacetals(1) with CuBr2 in THF at room temperature gave various alpha-bromo ketene dithioacetals (2) in excellent yields with high regioselectivities. The mechanism of this alpha-bromination is proposed to undergo an addition of bromine formed in situ to compound 1 and sequontial elimination of the alpha-proton. The simplicity of execution, mild conditions, inexpensive, easily usable brominating agent and high yields, make this synthetic method attractive for practical applications.

Abstract:A catalytic asymmetric brominative dearomatization reaction of benzofuran derivatives was achieved by using hydroquinidine 1,4-phthalazinediyl diether [(DHQ)2PHAL] as the catalyst and N-bromoacetamide (NBAc) as the brominating reagent. A series of brominated spiro[benzofuran-2,5'-oxazoles] bearing two contiguous stereogenic centers were obtained in high yields (up to 99%) with excellent enantioselectivity (up to 97% ee).

Abstract:Herein, an electrophilic halogenation of di- or trisubstituted allenoates and 3-alkynoates is demonstrated with NBS and NIS reagents under DABCO catalysis. The protocol affords densely functionalized 1,4-dicarbonyl 3-haloalkenes in good yields with excellent (E)-stereoselectivity (up to 83% yield, >20:1 dr). The role of the Brønsted base in the unusual transformation is demystified through control experiments and computational studies. The deliverables are identified as good synthons for various synthetic transformations and valuable targets for biologically active pyridazine scaffolds.

Abstract:An efficient synthesis of trisubstituted alkenes including 1,2-heterodisubstituted alkenes has been described. Reactions of thiols and amines with 1,1-dibromo-1-alkenes in the presence of TBAF center dot 3H(2)O afford (Z)-2-bromovinyl sulfides and (Z)-2-bromovinyl amines regio- and stereoselectively. The reaction proceeds under catalyst-free conditions with high efficiency. The coupling reactions of the obtained products bearing bromine atoms with phenylacetylene and phenylboronic acid gave trisubstituted alkenes in good to excellent yields. Cross-coupling with various N, O, S, and P nucleophiles selectively generated 1,2-N,O, 1,2-N,S, 1,2-S,P, 1,2-S,S, and 1,2-S,O heterodisubstituted alkenes.

Abstract:Aromatic bromination catalysed by 0.5‒10 mol% of D-camphorsulfonic acid‒BiCl3 with N-bromosuccinimides (NBS) was carried out in MeCN under air conditions, and the procedure was extended to the reactions with N-chlorosuccinimides (NCS) and N-iodosuccinimides (NIS). The halogenation of some drugs and natural products was also attempted. One-pot bromination / Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling and bromination / Sonogashira coupling reactions were achieved without the removal of the solvent.

Abstract:An efficient Rh(III)-catalyzed stepwise ortho allylation of N-methoxybenzamides 1 with polysubstituted allenes is reported. This C-H functionalization involving allenes is conducted under very mild conditions (-20 °C or room temperature) and compatible with ambient air and moisture, and it can be applied to terminal or internal allenes with different synthetically attractive functional groups. Highly efficient axial chirality transfer has been realized, yielding optically active lactones.

Abstract:A NBS-mediated sequential one-pot synthesis of multifunctionalized thiazoles and thiophenes from 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and mercaptonitrile salts has been developed under mild conditions. This transformation involves sequential bromination/SN2 alkylation/Thorpe–Ziegler cyclization/regio-selective elimination of a –COR group, affording the desired products in moderate to good yields. The sequence of the leaving reactivity of –COR groups was determined and a possible mechanism was proposed.

Abstract:A substrate-induced strategy for the bromochlorination and bromoazidation of diverse 1,3-dienes has been reported. This protocol offers straightforward and highly selective access to vicinal or allyl chlorobromides and azidobromides, which are ubiquitous moieties in many natural products and valuable synthetic intermediates. Additionally, a series of transformations of the products were performed to demonstrate their synthetic potential. Furthermore, control experiments were performed to elucidate the mutual conversion pathway between vicinal and allyl chlorobromides. Bromochlorination and bromoazidation of diverse 1,3-dienes to prepare various chlorobromides and azidobromides with high efficiency and selectivity using a general protocol with mild conditions and simple operation.

Abstract:NBS/H2SO4-HOAc as brominating reagent directly brominates some strong deactivated aromatics such as 1,3-bis(trifuoromethyl)benzene with good results.The effects of reaction conditions,such as the ratio of sulfuric acid and acetic acid,reaction temperature,addition time and the ratio of NBS and raw material,were investigated and the optimal reaction condition were determined.The excellent yield 93.1% was obtained when 1,3-bis(trifuoromethyl)benzene reacted with 1.15 equivalent NBS in H2SO4/HOAc 6∶1 at 45 ℃ for 8 h.

Abstract:Aminohalogenation reaction of β-nitrostyrenes with N-halosuccinimides (N-chloro and N-bromosuccinimides) has been successfully conducted by using nickel acetate as a catalyst in the presence of potassium carbonate and succinimide as co-additives. The reaction was easily performed at room temperature under nitrogen gas protection to give dihalorinaed haloamino products in good to excellent yields (60%–98%). The structure has been confirmed by X-ray crystal structure analysis.
