Abstract:A map is called Unicursal if it has exactly two vertices of odd valency. A near-triangulation is a map with all but one of its face triangles. We use the enufunction approach to enumerate rooted Unicursal planar near-triangulation with the valency of the root-face and the number of non-rooted faces as parameters.

Abstract:A map is called Eulerian if all the valencies of its vertices are even. If a map has all but one of its faces quadragles, then it is called a near-quadrangulation. Up until now, there is no research work on Eulerian planar near-quadrangulations. The main result in this paper is to establish a form of functional equation satisfied by enufunction of rooted Eulerian planar near-quadrangulations with the valency of the root-face and the number of non-rooted faces as parameters.

Abstract:It is well known that any explicit generating function with up to two or three parameters for non-planar maps can not be determined with easy because of difficulties in handling the essential circuits (or “noncontractible cycles” as some scholars called). In this paper the authors count rooted non-separatable near-triangulations on the projective plane by the root-face valency, the size, and the number of inner faces and a parametric expression, by which an explicit generating function with positive coefficients can be easily deduced, is completely determined as well.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the chromatic sum functions of rooted nonseparable near-triangulations on the sphere and the projective plane. The chromatic sum function equations of such maps are obtained. From the chromatic sum equations of such maps, the enumerating function equations of such maps are derived. Applying chromatic sum theory, the enumerating problem of different sorts maps can be studied, and a new method of enumeration can be obtained. Moreover, an asymptotic evaluation and some explicit expression of enumerating functions are also derived.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the rooted nonseparable maps on the sphere and the projective plane with the valency of root-face and the number of edges as parameters. Explicit expression of enumerating functions are obtained for such maps on the sphere and the projective plane. A parametric expression of the generating function is obtained for such maps on the projective plane, from which asymptotic evaluations are derived. Moreover, if the number of edges is sufficiently large, then almost all nonseparable maps on the projective plane are not triangulation.

Furthermore, we present a summation-free formula for rooted nonseparableouterplanar quadrangulations and an explicit formula for rooted nearquadrangulations on the disc by employing Lagrangian inversion basedon the cubic enunfunctions. As consequences, the number of rootedHamiltonian planar quadrangulations with even order and rooted (4,3)-regular Halin map are extracted more directly and more simply.

Abstract:This paper provides quartic functional equations satisfied by the enumerating functions of rooted planar near-quadrangulations with the size, the valency of the root-face and the number of non-rooted vertices. Rooted two edge-connected planar near-quadrangulations are also counted. Furthermore, explicit formulae for such two types of maps with above parameters are derived respectively after employing Lagrangian inversion. For two particular cases, the numbers of rooted planar trees and outerplanar quadrangulations are deduced directly.
