The Development of High Performance High Power Multilevel Converters

Abstract:Since 80s of last century, with the development of power electronics, high power multilevel converters with high performance have been widely used. Generally speaking, in order to realize high power, high-voltage and/or high-current can be used. In applications, high-voltage high-power technology is more used, and the key point is multilevel converters. This paper summarizes the development of the multilevel converters, and presents the recent research achievements about the high-voltage multilevel converters. Finally, some predictions of the future development in this area are given, expecting to be helpful to the future research work about the high-voltage high-power multilevel converters.
