Abstract:The high-yielde-poly-L-lysine-producing Streptomyces violaceusniger strain isolated and preserved in our laboratory was cultured to producee-poly-L-lysine in this study.The mycelia-free supernatant obtained after the centrifugal separation of the fermentation broth was ultrafiltrated through 5 kD(larger than the molecular weight of e-poly-L-lysine) polysulfone membrane and the filtrate was collected.The static adsorption and desorption characteristics of the filtrate on three different types of ion exchange resins were compared,and the dynamic adsorption and desorption of the filtrate on the selected resin were studied with respect to the effect of operation conditions on adsorption quantity and recovery.Based on the results from static adsorption and desorption,weakly acidic cation exchange resin HD-2 had excellent separation performance one-poly-L-lysine.The best purification process for e-poly-L-lysine was that the sample to be separated was applied to a 22 mm×300 mm HD-2 column with a flow rate of 3 mL/min,followed by 0.1 mol/L NaCl elution with the same flow rate.Ae-poly-L-lysine recovery of 92.0% was achieved using the optimized purification process.

Abstract:The research and application achievements on the separation and recovery of heavy metals by the various types of ion exchange resins are summarized.The separation mechanism and applicable conditions are elaborated individually.The chelating resins are further defined high selectivity and wide adaptability advantages through the comprehensive comparison of the characteristics and scope of its application.It provides an important solution for purification separation and recovery of heavy metals with the nature of approximation,the complex components.The innovative research direction of chelating resin is prospected in order to expand its separation and recovery of heavy metals in the adaptability and applicability to provide theoretical and technical guidance.

Abstract:According to the problem of resin wear in the process of conveying,an experimental device was processed.The relationship between the diameter of pipe in which the resin was transferred,the water flow rate and the wear of resin in the process of transferring was investigated,the wear volume and wear rate after 100 times transferred were measured,and the factors that affected the resin wear were analyzed.It is observed that when the diameter of the pipe is large(such as Ф100 mm) in the transportation,the air in the pipe interfered the transfer of the resin,and the amount of resin wear increased;when the resin was transferred in a smaller pipe which contained fewer air,in the same flow rate of water,the smaller the connection pipe diameter is,the more crowded the resins are in the connection pipe,the friction between each other is more intensive,the contact between resin and pipe wall is more serious,the resin wear is also more obvious.In the same connection pipe diameter,the greater the fluid flow is,the greater the velocity is,the collision between resin and connection pipe wall is more violent,the wear is also more serious.

Abstract:Ion exchange resin is a porous polymer with a high molecular weight. It has a few groups that can be exchanged into ions in the solution it comes into contact with. Ion exchange resins are available in different types and are widely employed in wastewater treatment. It removes unwanted ions from waste water, because it can exchange unwanted ions with its functional group. Until now, ions exchange mainly employed for the removal of different compounds from water, including dissolved organic matter and dissolved organic carbon, nitrate, copper, N-nitrosodimethylamine, fluoride, Nickel, boron, sulfamethazine, trihalomethanes (THMs) etc. In industry, various techniques are available for condensate water treatment, including flotation, membrane, sedimentation, coagulation, precipitation, chemical adsorption, filtration, catalytic oxidation, and electrochemical techniques. But existing techniques or processes are not feasible for water treatment in a confined place due to few advantages, including less efficiency in purification, being expensive, maintenance challenges, and high energy requirements. In contrast, ion exchange resins benefit from high separation selectivity, simple handling, and reusable resin. Few resins are too much costly, but being they are reusable, it makes them sustainable and cost-effective. Significant research is being conducted worldwide to uncover the potential effects of ion exchange resins. This review discussed their use in environmental cleanup, water treatment, and operational feasibility with multiple factors.

Abstract:Since 1949, China has been witnessing a rapid development in ion exchange and adsorption technology. Up to date, at least five generations of polymeric resins have been developed, including gel-type resin, macroporous resin, hyper-cross-linked resin, bifunctional resin and resin-based composite adsorbent. These resin-based materials have been widely utilized in various industries, including military defense, medical and health, fine chemicals, hydrometallurgy, environmental protection, making considerable contributions to the modernization of China. In brief, gel-type resin, characterized by non-porous nature, was first developed for uranium extraction and later expanded to other fields such as water softening. Due to abundant porous structure, macroporous resin exhibited faster ion exchange rate and higher mechanical strength over the gel-type one. A variety of macroporous adsorption resins were developed and widely utilized in separation and/or purification in the industries of food, chemicals, rare elements, drugs, toxins, and environmental remediation. Hyper-cross-linked resin was mainly prepared via Friedel-Crafts reaction, possessing ultra-high specific surface area (usually high than 800 m(2)/g) and abundant microporous structure. Hyper-cross-linked resins have been successfully applied for hemoperfusion purpose, representing one of the most promising adsorbents for organic pollutants in chemical industry effluents. Bifunctional resins were designed for adsorptive removal of highly water-soluble organic pollutants from industrial effluents, because they could offer multiple interactions with target pollutants such as pp interaction, electrostatic attraction, hydrophobic interaction and hydrogen bonds. In the past decade, resin-based composite adsorbents, including resin-supported nanocomposite and magnetic resin, were obtained by integrating resin hosts with inorganic (nano) particles for advanced (waste) water treatment. The present review summarizes the development of ion exchange and adsorption resins in China since its foundation, particularly focusing on the historic contributions of Prof. Binglin He, the father of China's ion exchange resins, to the progress of ion exchange and adsorption technology in China. Also, it provides an outlook of the perspective of ion exchange and adsorption resins in emerging applications.

Abstract:The advanced treatment of condensate water is important for efficient reuse of water resources, especially in confined space. In this work, a novel integrated process of ion exchange resins and activated carbon is proposed to remove various pollutants in condensate water. A fixed bed column of pre-treated basic anion exchange resin, acidic cation exchange resin, mixed ion exchange resins and modified activated carbon was applied to remove ionic pollutants, organic pollutants and adjust the pH value of output water. The effects of the types, amount ratios and the sequence of ion exchange resins were investigated using two types of condensate water. The results showed that the output water of the fixed bed column had an average TOC of 30~70 ppm, conductivity under 5 μS/cm, pH value of 5~8, which could meet the requirements of sanitary water. The saturated adsorption capacities of the basic anion exchange resin and the acidic cation exchange resin were calculated to be 0.87 mol/L and 1.82 mol/L, respectively. Under the actual operating conditions, continuous dynamic test was carried out over a condensate water treatment module consisting of two adsorption columns and four exchange columns to evaluate its real service life.

Abstract:The article deals with the issues of existing processes for improving the physical and chemical conditions of the ion exchange process in water treatment. Patents and publications on the use of the ion exchange method in water treatment have been analysed. The expediency and scientific significance are determined by the possibility of further improving the efficiency of the ion exchange process in water treatment on the basis of the obtained results. Existing methods, such as thermal and cryogenic treatment, membrane plants, distillation and reverse osmosis, have a number of disadvantages, such as high energy consumption of the process and the inability to be used on an industrial scale. A promising method to improve the efficiency of modified ion exchange resins is to use the effect of a magnetic field on the feed water with constant stirring. The article analyses ion exchange resins and their problems, existing research aimed at modernising the ion exchange process, considers ways to optimise the selectivity of ion exchange resins, their modification with dendritic aggregates, and the use of mixed cationic and anionic ion exchange resins. Regeneration of ion-exchange resins using ammonium bicarbonate technology, reagent-free regeneration methods, such as electrodialysis, electrodionization systems, in order to reduce process waste, possible schemes of using ion-exchange plants in combination with other methods of water treatment. The analysis shows the relevance of using the ion exchange process in water treatment and the prospect of further research on ways to intensify the process to reduce energy and economic resources. The obtained results demonstrate the most advanced ways to improve the method of ion exchange for water treatment, such as reagentless regeneration of ionites using electrodialysis, modification of resins by introducing the necessary functional groups.

Abstract:Different ion exchange resins were selected to adsorb the copperion in organic wastewater. The absorption rate of resin for copper was determined. The impact of copper ion concentration and pH value on absorption rate, and the regenesis capability of the resin were tested. Results showed "zhengguang", "Qiangsuan 1#" and PK208 resin possess outstanding performance, which should be used in decontamination of wastewater that contains copper ion.

Abstract:Since its discovery more than a century ago, the phenomenon of ion exchange has undergone significant evolution in terms of both theory and practice, especially after the synthesis of organic (polymeric) ion exchangers. No specialty thrives in isolation. The field of ion exchange grew over decades by permeating into myriad areas from deionization to drug delivery. There have been continuous development in the synthesis of new ion exchange materials and processes that now cater to various applications in industries as diverse as power and water utilities, biotechnology, chemical purification, food and beverages, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, microelectronics, and also water treatment. Polymeric ion exchangers, viewed as a strongly ionized electrolyte with low dielectric constants, can be made suitable for various uses including trace contaminant removal in environmental separation, hydrometallurgy, catalysis, product purification, and sustainable industrial processes. Many of these specific interactions can be characterized and enhanced by making modifications to the polymer matrix, covalently attached fixed functional groups, degree of cross-linking, porosity, and morphology. Affinity for specific ions or selectivity of the ion exchangers plays a critical role and allows one to design ion exchange processes in which complete removal of the target ion from the background of other ions is required. Selectivity of the ion exchangers also influences separation of noble metals and chemical purification operations. An understanding of the basic principles of ion exchange equilibrium and kinetics is important for the development of new materials and processes. In order for an ion exchange process to be economically viable, the ion exchangers need to be regenerable so that they may be used for tens of cycles. Such a constraint demands a tradeoff between the high selectivity of the resin and its regenerability with cost-effective regenerants. Regulations related to the disposal of spent regenerant have also driven new advancements in the field of ion exchange. Study on treatment of DMA containing wastewater with ion exchange resin

Abstract:The static adsorption of dimethylamine (DMA) on three ion exchange resins was performed to select the best absorbent,and ZGSPC106 among the three resins presented the best performance for its adsorption capacity and adsorption rate.Batch experiments of DMA adsorption on ZGSPC106 were conducted,the effect of initial acidity,concentration of DMA,temperature and interfered ions on adsorption capacity were investigated.The adsorption capacity of ZGSPC106,which increased with increasing initial DMA and temperature,was highest under the natural pH.The dynamic experiments showed that 20 mL/min of flow rate was acceptable for dynamic adsorption of DMA from ZGSPC106.The saturated resin was eluted by 2 mol/L hydrochloric at the flow rate of 10 mL/min,the elution percentage could reach as high as 90%.Furthermore,the resin could be well reused due to its good stability.

Abstract:Poisoning of ion exchange resin often occurs in uranium hydrometallurgy processes, which reduces or even depletes the adsorption capacity of uranium adsorption. Many regeneration methods have been investigated but their static desorption efficiency is undesirable and only the recovery rate is considered in the selection of regenerant. In this paper, NaClO was selected as an antidote based on a series of investigation indexes. After detoxification by dynamic elution, all performance indexes of the regenerated resin are close to those of the new resin. Compared with static method, reagent consumption and detoxification time can be saved. At the same time of reducing the cost and waste liquid discharge, it also improves the work efficiency.

Abstract:Ion exchange technique as the reversible exchange of ions between the substrate and the surrounding medium can be an effective way of removing traces of ion impurities from the waters and wastewaters and obtaining a product of ultrapure quality. Therefore, it can be used in analytical chemistry, hydrometallurgy, purification and separation of metal ions, radioisotopes and organic compounds, and it also finds great application in water treatment and pollution control. In the presented paper, the new trends for ion exchanger characteristics determination and application are presented. Special attention is paid to the ion exchangers with multifunctionality for heavy metal ions removal. They show superior actions such as sorption capacity values with excellent resistance to fouling and the possibility of application in the co-current or modern packed bed counter-current systems, as well as for the condensate polishing or the conventional mixed bed systems in combination with other resins. The results of the paper are expected to help researchers to establish a powerful strategy to find a suitable ion exchanger for heavy metal ions removal from waters and wastewaters. It is important because the best ion exchangers are selected for a specific application during laboratory tests taking into account the composition of the feed solution, pH, type of ion exchangers and then the column breakthrough tests. Therefore, the optical profilometry and the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy can prove beneficial for this purpose in the case of three different ion exchangers such as Dowex M 4195, Amberlite IRA 743 and Purolite Arsen Xnp.

Research on optimization and efficiency of ion exchange resin for Ni2+removal

Abstract:In order to select the best ion exchange resin for Ni2+ removal, the adsorption isotherms and adsorption kinetics of 5 kinds of cation exchange resins on Ni2 + were studied using nickel electroplating wastewater (mass concentration of Ni2+ was 80 mg/L). The effect of the above resins on adsorption exchange capacity, exchange adsorption rate and regeneration rate of Ni2 + in nickel electroplating wastewater was investigated. Meanwhile, the effect of coexisting ions in wastewater on the treatment of nickel electroplating wastewater by resins was studied also. The results showed that, the adsorption of Ni2+by 5 kinds of cation resins reached equilibrium in 120 min, the adsorption isotherms were in accordance with the Freundlich adsorption;and the adsorption kinetics fit the pseudo-second order kinetic equation. The adsorption exchange capacities of KP752 and CH-90 resin for Ni2+ were 22.421 and 22.831 mg/L respectively, which showed the best adsorption effect. More than that, the recovery rate of Ni2+by the said two kinds of resins both above 80%. The coexistence of Ca2+ and Mg2+ in wastewater could significantly affect the adsorption efficiency of CH-90 resin on Ni2+, however, its influence on KP752 resin was small.

Abstract:As insoluble polymer materials, ion-exchange resins (IERs) can exchange their own ions with desirable charged ions in the solution. According to the affinity of active moieties for soluble counterions, IERs could be categorized into the following four types: strongly acidic cation, weakly acidic cation, strongly basic anion, and weakly basic anion exchange resins. Due to their relative safety and high drug-loading capacity, IERs have garnered extensive attention in the pharmaceutical field since the 1950s. As numerous investigations combine drugs with IERs, this article summarizes the technologies employed in these studies from four aspects: IER screening principles, combining technologies, characterization methods, and in vitro and in vivo release of drug-resinate complexes. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of various technologies and their scope are expounded. The article provides new insights on the preparation of ion-exchange resin complexes.Graphical

Abstract:Due to the special ion transfer characteristic in ion exchange membranes ,the electro-membrane processes based on ion exchange membranes can achieve the separation and classification of the ions,which have found more and more important applications in clean pro-duction,energy-saving and emission reducing,environmental protection,and energy conver-sion. The ion exchange membranes processes meet with the demands of energy-saving,reuse of raw material,and pollution prevention in modern industries,and have become one of the key components for sustainable development in our economy. However,the preparation and applica-tions of homogenous in exchange membranes are still at infant stage of development in China due to technological embargoes and price monopoly by the Japan leaded developed country. As a consequence,it is of great significance for the development of some novel membrane prepara-tion routes. A one-step preparation route of homogenous exchange membranes by polyacylation of ionized monomers was developed in our lab. The ATRP technology was used to manipulate the structure of ion exchane membranes to achieve the constrcution of hydrophobic structure in the main chain and hydropholic in the side chain by controlling graft density and graft length of the side-chain pendant. The prepared membranes by this strategy will meet the demands of dif-ferent applications. The indutrial preparation of this kinds of ion exchange membranes can breakthourgh the technological embargoes and price monopoly the Japan of leaded developed country and can achieve development of the independent intellectual property rights in ex-change membranes production. The preparation route is very simple and effective with a moder-ate operation condition. The quarternization and sulfonation steps were avoided in our prepara-tion route with a simplified preparation steps and a reduced pollution. Our preparation route meets with the demand of high-effective membranes in diffusion dialysis,conventional electro-dialysis and bipolar membranes electrodialysis. The prepared membranes were tested with satis-factory results in many different processes such as special wastewater treatment,organic acids production,amino acid separation and purification,and heavy metal wastewater treatment.

Abstract:The paper investigates the ion-exchange resin cleaning during processing of pregnant solutions obtained by in-situ leaching. Sodium and ammonium hydroxides and AMP and Purolite ion-exchange resins are used for cleaning. Regeneration of ion-exchange resins with and without preliminary cleaning is studied herein. The efficiency analysis of described processes is based on mass spectrometry, spectrophotometry, and X-ray fluorescence of the impurity content in alkali washes. It is found that alkaline cleaning is effective for washing silicon and phosphorus.
